This cottage is a little gem in itself, perched right on the lakeshore, and it's set within a much larger farm that is lovely, with hay pastures, grazing cows, woodland margins, and groves of towering pines. Good land conservation practices at work. The owners are extremely friendly and responsive when you have a question, and otherwise they simply let you enjoy your stay. Good hosting practices at work. The site is ideal for exploring the High Peaks region or nearby western Vermont. Your senses will awaken to the natural world as you slow down. A perfect experience.
What a wonderful place. The cottage âMargotâ was a great place to call home during our visit to Westport.
The pictures of this place convey an accurate image. Margot is the my definition of a rustic cottage on the lake. The cottage has simple but efficient furnishings and well functioning infrastructure. The shower had great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Though we didnât cook, the kitchen has all the necessities. We made good use of the refrigerator and the laundry. The Wi-Fi worked well in all rooms and on the deck, which allowed my husband to do some work each morning.
The sibling owners made themselves available in case of any needs that might arise. None did. We certainly look forward to staying at âMargotâ on our next visit to Westport.
A lovely cottage in a quiet lakeside location on a large farm. It's an old-fashioned rural getaway, well-appointed with basic amenities. It's close enough to Vermont for day-trips and even closer to the Adirondacks High Peaks for day-hikes and exploring the charming towns in the mountain valleys. So, plenty to do nearby, but it's tempting just to slow down and enjoy the lake shore, watching ospreys and eagles hunting and hearing loons in the evenings. Beautiful!
The first impression was the lasting impression. We arrived to a musty mothball dominated smell soon to find a mouse nest in the kitchen drawer and mouse droppings throughout the kitchen and other rooms. There we're dryer sheets stuffed everywhere along with mothballs. This apparently was an attempt to get rid of the mice and and the related smell. I cleaned the whole building of mouse droppings. We turned the oven on to cook our dinner only to discover that the electric range was coated with mouse unrein. The resulting odor was terrible. We also found the stackable dryer in the middle of the kitchen floor because the washer machine was under repair. We had to contact the owner to get it relocated. There was a bird nesting on the covered deck above the patio table and chairs. They were covered with bird dropping that had not been cleaned. I cleaned them. The kitchen utensils, dishes, glasses and flatware are in very poor condition. The books, artwork and furniture are from the 50's and 60's and are in need of replacement. The throw rugs are in very poor condition. The tube for the TP holder was missing.
The view and the location on the lake is great. Very private and peaceful. The cottage has potential but as is not worth the price as is.
We have been to this property three times now, at both the bigger and smaller house. The places are charming, and the location is just lovely: a perfect spot on the lake, fantastic hiking, kayaking, tennis, and more.
The house is located in a beatiful setting. I loved having coffee in the morning on a deck and admiring Lake Champlain. The property has a lovely beach with a deck, and a tennis court. My kids went paddle boarding and fishing. The location is very private. There is a long driveway leading to the house by the small farm and there is only one more house next to the house that we rented. The manager was great to talk to and we are thinking about coming back.
The cottage was everything that we wanted and more. There is over a mile of private lake front, there are rocks in the water so bring water shoes, the deer are in the yard, loons in the morning and peacefully quiet all the time. The weather was extremely hot and there is no a=/c so fans are a must, we brought extra. The kitchen has most things needed but a little antiquated. The books are amazing, some beautifully old gems to read. We are going to come back next year.
The landscape, the view, the beach are truly amazing!!! The owner and extended family are super accommodating and gracious. Siper private too. We can't wait til we can come back.
We loved our time at Margotâs Cottage. As we drove into the property and saw the lake stretch out beyond the grassy fields, we felt like we were in a dream. The cottage was rustic and full of charming decorative details and well-stocked for a visit, with an extensive and eclectic selection of books and a well-stocked kitchen should you choose to cook while away, as we did. We spent most of our time enjoying the beautiful property â swimming, canoeing, taking walks, and sitting out on our deck, looking over the lake and listening to the water lap against the rocks. The location was great for us â we took day trips to Lake Placid, Lake George, and Vermont, and could have happily explored more if we werenât so content enjoying our time on site. The owners are lovely â they were very responsive when we got in touch, and were friendly and chatty when we crossed paths on the property. It was hard for us to leave and we are already looking forward to our next visit!
Gorgeous property with direct access to Lake Champlain. The cabin is charming and our family had a wonderful time. Although a bit rustic, it has all the comforts of home. Swimming off of the rocks is lovely just be sure to have water shoes. Take advantage of all the property and area has to offer. It is a five star location and the town of Westport in the summer is Americana at its best. Thursday night music in the park, coffee shops to get all the town gossip, and a wonderful Bessboro gift shop is at your fingertips. Donât miss Ernies for fresh butcher cut meats and freshly made sandwiches. The marina and yacht club are nice for lunch and dinner just be prepared to be patient as upstaters move at their own pace. Relax! Weâll be back.
