We loved that it was so close to the Grandfather Mountain HIghland Games. The Condo was located just above a peaceful creek. We did not miss having AC. We opened the windows and the unit had screens. We also used the ceiling fans and the portable fan in the bedroom. It was the perfect size for two people. We would love to return and stay longer.
This place was ok. Not great, not terrible. It was surface clean but needs a deep cleaning. The furniture is in need of replacing throughout the whole condo. Great location, quiet area, but itâs time to let the 80âs go and buy some new stuff
The condo was 100 yards from the shuttle parking for the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. Overall, a very good place. The furniture is a bit dated, and be aware of the lack of air conditioning if you are staying during the summer. However, with the ceiling fan and open windows, it was not miserably hot inside.
The condo was nice and clean. It was close to the resort, but I wouldn't say it was close enough to walk with all your gear. My only complaint is the couch is the most uncomfortable couch I've ever laid down on. Other than that everything was nice. The loft area is really neat. If you have kids they would love it.
My husband and I stayed at this rental while visiting the area for the first time. We were there to visit Autumn at Oz.
Overall, the rental is very cute. It's decorated nice and I loved the cozy feel. It was nicely located in an area that I felt was close by all the surrounding towns. I read several reviews before booking and they were all pretty good.
Overall, I enjoyed our stay at the rental, however, the bed was so uncomfortable that I was ready to check out at 3am on the day we were to leave. The first night there I ended up going to tbe couch hoping for some rest, but it was equally as uncomfortable. The rental did have a stale smell, but I believe that's due to no AC and air flow. We opened the back door every evening and allowed the fresh air in and that was very helpful. The bathroom could have used a deep cleaning behind the toilet, but the rest if the rental was clean.
I was hesitant at first renting a place with no air, but my husband and I were both very comfortable at night with just a fan.
Overall, I wouldn't mind renting again if they update the furniture. I was so glad to get home to my bed!
While the condo is comfortable and clean and had everything needed to cook meals, I needed to be able to work and the WiFi router is old and had to be constantly reset (and still had terrible connection). This is a known issue per other reviews. Cannot recommend this condo to anyone who requires Wi-Fi as it is not available. I had to use a hotspot on my phone which is also not great on busy weekends at Sugar where the towers are overwhelmed with traffic.
Wonderful unit, perfect for a small family in an ideal location!
From the moment we arrived I knew we hit the jackpot with this condo! The condo was cleaned to perfection from floor to ceiling. The carpets looked to be almost brand new. Housekeeping definitely prepared for our arrival!
The condo was just the right amount of space for our family of 3. Our 10 year old daughter loved the loft area. The fun steps up and the two beds in the loft gave it a feel of a tree house or playhouse which she loved. But because it was a loft with a small opening looking down into the living room we could still converse and feel together while she was hanging out up there.
The living room was well appointed and the fireplace was an added perk during the cold winter evenings.
The kitchen had everything we needed to make homemade snow cream, hot chocolate and chilli after a long day of skiing.
The location was absolutely perfect! Once we parked our car it didn't move! The first day we walked down to the overflow parking lot which was literally a stone's throw away to catch the bus to the lodge but quickly realized we could have just walked to the lodge! The tubing and Ice Skating areas were even closer!
We knew we 100% lucked out as we casually walked by the gridlocked traffic and overflow lots closed due to being at capacity the entire weekend.
We were able to leave our ski equipment at the lodge and could easily go back and forth throughout the day.
Sugar mountain was great! Definitely be sure to plan on standing in line for activities as there is no online purchasing available and tickets go on sale an hour before the activity. I would suggest getting online even earlier if you want to be guaranteed a spot for tubing or ice skating.
All in all it was an amazing trip and we are already looking forward to our ski trip next year!
A huge thank you to Sam and to Susan for their assistance with our late checkout!
Two days before check-in I got an email from Vacasa saying under no circumstances should I check in for this stay because of the Helene weather conditions. I then got check-in instructions, a welcome note, and after a day an inquiry whether the cleanliness met my expectations. I called to request a refund and was told no refunds with no exceptions; I could rebook there or elsewhere for a stay within 30 days. My schedule was arranged around this stay and there is no way I can reschedule a stay in the next 30 days. I also live in the Helene-affected area and need the refund more than a vacation. Vacasa needs to make exception to their no-refund policy under these exceptional circumstances.
Cozy aka small condo was overall nice. The downsides that I think other renters should be aware of are:
âąTwo short flights of stairs (in a "switch back" configuration) that made carrying in luggage a challenge. Also the interior stairs up to the "loft" area are extremely steep and have very small steps. I would guarantee that most elderly/large/tall people would not be able climb them. Even having kids going up and down those stairs would concern me. Also the condo has oddly angled walls in the kitchen (half the galley kitchen is "cut" in half with a 45 degree wall) and in the main bedroom. When entering on one side of the bed, you have to duck if you are over 5'-9" .
The condo is located in a nice mountain neighborhood and even has a stream far below the small but usable balcony.
We enjoyed our stay until the last night when confronted with two cockroaches in the kitchen which kinda freaked the wife out when sleeping that night.
Overall for two adults, this property was nice and made for a decent stay and we would rent it again after some pest control (wife says maybe).
Nice place for a little getaway and great location to the slopes/lodge. Perfect for a small family. Loved the fireplace. Unfortunately the Wi-Fi and cable didnât work during our stay. Overall, great and would stay there again.
Cleaning did not meet expectations specifically in the kitchen. Odd smell when you first enter. Older and could use new carpet. Location was great. Property management very responsive.
Very clean, well-stocked and cozy apartment. A short walk from the slopes. If there were a washer/ dryer available, then it would have become my first choice ski-stop. Only minor complaint: internet is too slow to be usable, even for just reading the news (I did restart the router). I gave up and just used my cellular data.
Very close to Sugar Mountain slopes. The property is a bit smaller than advertised or the pictures show and a bit more dated. What was most frustrating was the lack of kitchen elements: towels for drying dishes; tea kettle
Really enjoyed our stay. Loved the sound of the water running down the hillside and the fireplace.
Kitchen well equipped.
Bathroom had soap, shampoo, conditioner.
The couch has one side/cushion that is broken down, making it uncomfortable to sit on.
If there was a DVD player it was not obvious. :(
The ceiling fan hasnât been cleaned in awhile, I was afraid to turn it on.
Too much furniture for the space.
WiFi drops multiple times an hour
No trash bags
Chocolate gunk in oven drawer (not us)
