Oceanfront Luxury Estate - Vues spectaculaires de chaque pièce

Domaine familial privé avec des vues spectaculaires sur l'océan depuis chaque chambre. Situé près du petit village portuaire en activité (achetez vos homards juste à côté des quais) de Cutler, Maine. Notre propriété comprend une grande étendue de terrain attenant à un terrain de conservation pour la randonnée et l'observation des étoiles, le silence et la solitude. Parcourez un mile et demi en voiture à travers des épinettes parfumées, des sapins et des mousses, marchez tout droit sur un grand tronçon privé de littoral audacieux.

Cette propriété exceptionnelle abrite une lande (tourbière), des cruchons, des tétras, des lynx roux et des aigles. Des baleines et des phoques sont régulièrement observés depuis le pont de la maison. Les orignaux sont souvent repérés dans l'allée. Regardez les pompiers tirer leurs pièges devant la maison. Imprégnez-vous des levers et couchers de soleil incroyables, des brouillards brumeux et des mers scintillantes. Un orage peut frapper les fenêtres de la maison pendant un bon Nor'easter..

- Environ. une heure et demie à Acadia Nat'l Park, quarante minutes à Quoddy Head State Park, Lubec, Campobello Island et Roosevelt's summer home. À quelques minutes des restaurants locaux, des magasins, du campus de l'Université du Maine et de la librairie. Randonnées spectaculaires aux sentiers Western Head et Bold Coast depuis Cutler.

Cette grande maison comprend quatre niveaux finis. La première chambre comprend un lit à baldaquin et des vues spectaculaires sur la mer et le ciel. Chambre deux comprend deux lits queen, salle de bain avec baignoire, douche ouverte, balcon privé et vue sur la cime des arbres, le lever du soleil et le littoral spectaculaire. La troisième chambre comprend un lit queen, un lit de repos avec lit gigogne, un dressing en cèdre, des vues spectaculaires sur le littoral et le coucher du soleil et un accès au balcon du deuxième étage. Chambres une et trois partagent salle de bain complète avec douche italienne ouverte et une baignoire avec fenêtre panoramique donnant sur la mer ouverte.

Il y a un niveau inférieur en bord de mer avec deux lits queen-size, des canapés pliants, un réfrigérateur supplémentaire et une grande terrasse.

Meublé avec goût partout. Cuisine bien équipée avec armoires en merisier personnalisées, sols carrelés, bar à petit-déjeuner avec sièges, appareils en acier inoxydable, cuisinière à gaz, ouverte sur la salle à manger avec une grande table à manger en granit et des vues spectaculaires sur le coucher du soleil et l'océan.

Grande salle bien équipée avec des livres, de la musique, des puzzles, des vidéos / DVD, des cartes et des guides de la nature. Ventilateurs de plafond et vue imprenable dans chaque pièce.

Depuis la TOUR D'OBSERVATION du quatrième étage, observez les étoiles traverser le ciel et les baleines, le phare et les navires au loin. Ouvrez toutes les fenêtres et endormez-vous au son des vagues et des cornes de brume (un lit jumeau).

Location de kayaks / canoës, observation des baleines, macareux moine / sterne arctique et sorties d'observation des phoques disponibles à proximité.

L'emplacement de cette maison le rend inapproprié pour les très petits enfants.

Truly a special place!

We had a family gathering and this property was nothing short of perfect! The house has plenty of room for guests and absolutely stunning views from every window. But the best part has to be the property itself, the private hiking trails, the cliffs, the pebble beach, the heath, the list could go on. As an avid outdoorsman and traveler, I can confidently say this is the coolest and most peaceful property I have every been on! It is truly like having your own nature preserve. This is honestly one of those places you think twice about writing a review as it's just that special and you want to keep it for yourself... If you like the outdoors, ocean and just having a relaxing break from it all this is the place!

Family get away

This is one of the most beautiful places i have even been to! As soon as i saw the pictures i knew we needed to stay here. When we first started down the driveway we were in amazement of how secluded it was. We pulled up and couldn’t believe how perfect it was. The house is huge. There was 14 of us and there was plenty of room for us all to have our own space. The kitchen was nice and big and great for a big family to enjoy. The living room was perfect for my grand daughter to enjoy and crawl around in. It was very foggy all week but we still enjoyed sitting on the deck and did lots of hiking. We hiked everyday down to pebble beach. We didn’t see any wild life. Just lots of little squirrels. I think we might even try to go again next year!

Somerled

We had a wonderful time at Somerled. The house was comfortable, clean and well stocked. Most evenings were clear and incredible for star gazing…others foggy but that was cool too. The closest grocery or restaurant is about 30 mins away so meal planning was important. A minor thing for us was the well water, we bought our drinking water. For a group of 8 people that turned out to be a lot of water. The property is truly spectacular. We hiked around a lot and spent a lot of time on the deck just looking out at the incredible view. Personally, I could move in there quite happily for a summer. It is so quiet and the area is beautiful. I think people who like more restaurants and night life might prefer somewhere else. We went whale watching out of Lubec and had an early dinner there. Also visited Eastport and had lunch. Had a beer in Machias after a hike. There are so many books, puzzles, games and things to do at the house…a ping pong table and fire circle. We enjoyed it all. Thank you so much!

Beautiful House on the Spectacular Bold Coast

Our extended family has enjoyed staying at this wonderful house three times. Our first visits were back in 2010 and 2011 and we were delighted to return again this summer. The location was just as we remembered with gorgeous views from every room. It's a very comfortable house and there was plenty of room for everyone (four generations under one roof!) and a everything needed for a relaxing vacation. There are many great hiking trails nearby, but you might be tempted to just stay put and watch the ocean waves from the deck.

Mainmemories

We have have been vacationing in Maine for many years, and words cannot describe the beauty of Somerled. If you are dreaming of the perfect spot on the edge of the ocean...if you long to be surrounded by the vastness of the sea...if you imagine yourself watching the sunlight and moonlight bounce like diamonds on ocean, then Somerled is the place for you. It is a place for family and friends to go on adventures up Bold Coast Trail or find neat rocks and little ecosystems hidden in the rock/cliffs on Pebble Beach. It is a place to sing songs by a campfire or cook dinner together in the well-equipped kitchen. However, I must say that the absolute best amenity is the ability to just lose track of time and focus on family and not on a clock. I will also warn you that when looking out at the never ending beauty of the sea, you will have not choice but to peacefully vanish into yourself and smile. Many years ago my daughter named our adventures to Maine, "Mainmemories." We were all touched by how much Somerled truly impacted our hearts and our spirits. We were so sad to leave this wonderful place, but appreciate all the joy it brought to us. Somerled will forever be part of our collection of "Mainmemories" and we hope to visit again soon.

AMAZING Property!

Our entire stay was fabulous. We enjoyed everything about the house/property. The house was well stocked and very clean. The outdoor space was well-kept and very beautiful. The house is remote and very quiet. Be sure and plan a visit to the surrounding communities. Eastport was our favorite. If you are looking for a true Maine experience without all the tourists, THIS IS your place. 5+ stars!

Perfect Quarantine Getaway

Spectacular vacation spot!

Somerled is an amazingly beautiful place. The Location is just perfect and the house is beautiful. A view of the ocean from every room. One can never tire of the view. We saw seals, porpoises, bald eagles, porcupines, ducks and sea birds. Great hiking trails nearby and a quaint working harbor where we experienced true “Down East” living.

Don’t think twice, just go!

Rarely in the world of vacation rentals does a property so amazingly exceed your expectations. Stunning views from a warm and welcoming property are offered from our new friend Carol...a completely charming host. Perfectly appointed, each room offers a window to the rocky coast of Northern Maine. Unique hiking trails, crashing waves, views of both sunrises as well as sunsets from this home are simply magical. My only hesitation leaving this review is that if more people go then it might not be available the next time we want the home. Don’t think twice about your decision, just go!

Great home on the rocky coast of Maine.

An unforgettable vacation! We woke every morning to the sunrise and two to four harbor seals in the water off the deck. We saw many whales traveling south! The home was spacious and beautiful. Seeing the milky way galaxy so clearly made the long driveway so worth it.

DownEast Comfort with Million Dollar Views

Tackling the 1.5 mile rustic driveway through deep woods is a little daunting but once you arrive and see Somerled for the first time, it is so worth the effort it took to get there! The house is situated on a cliff overlooking the sparkling waters of Fundy Bay, with no neighbors or cars to intrude on the peace and solitude of this beautiful location. We were a mixed generational group of 11, ranging in age from 22 months old to 72 years and we spent 4 wonderful days together in this spacious and welcoming home. There was more than enough room for all of us to spread out and not feel at all crowded and we lacked for nothing in terms of comfortable furnishings and a very well equipped kitchen. Even our littlest one had a full size crib instead of the usual pack n' play provided in most rentals and we really appreciated the availability of two baby gates to prevent her from trying to climb the staircases. Carol and Maureen were wonderful to communicate with and responsive to all our questions prior to the trip. They checked in on us by email to make sure everything was going well once we arrived. We shopped in well stocked grocery stores in Machias and Lubec and found more than enough variety in both little towns to keep our hungry bunch well fed. We cooked at home for our group each night, using the large outdoor gas grill and on our last night steamed 25 pounds of fresh Maine lobster, sourced from a local lobsterman recommended by the Daniels. It was ourstanding and a fitting way to end a wonderful trip. Four days was not nearly enough to enjoy all that Somerled and the surrounding area have to offer and we hope to have the opportunity to return to this extraordinary, unspoiled part of Maine.

All of coastal Maine in one place

This property has everything my family and I love about Maine; the ocean and rocky shore, pines, birch, scrub brush, and woodland trails. The house is perfectly designed and situated, with the sights and sounds of the ocean as your front yard. The interior is wonderfully spacious with large, open common areas and an enormous finished lower level as well the many bedrooms, all beautifully decorated, and we also enjoyed relaxing on the large deck. The kitchen is so well appointed that our only challenge was remembering which cupboard to look in for what we wanted, and the downstairs refrigerator was a great backup. In addition to scrambling on the rocks there are several trails on the property, and just walking along them was highly memorable for the ethereal beauty of the moss-covered landscape, and the magic of the large heath. It is coastal Maine, so Deet and permethrin-treated clothing are very highly recommended for outdoor activities. With those protections I was comfortable in the woods and on the shore, though those more uncomfortable with hovering insects should consider mosquito head nets, which others in our group found very effective. We visited Eastport, which is about an hour, and Lubec, about half that, as well as making runs into Machias – also about a half-hour – to re-stock at Hannaford, have dinner at Helen’s, and bring back pizza from Pat’s. We also visited the Roque Bluffs, but passed on planned visits to the Cutler Coast area and Campobello Island because we realized we’d only be going there for what we already had, right where we were. (In timing trips in or out, be aware that most mapping software, including Google Maps, apparently assign a default speed limit to the driveway and assume you will travel it in a few minutes, but fifteen is more on the mark. However, the view along the way is part of the experience.) The Daniels are gracious hosts, available but not obtrusive, checking in by text to make sure everything was in order and wishing us a wonderful time (and being extremely understanding when we managed to trip the security system by accident, which was easily remedied). This home appears to have been built by a family, for a family, and I am sure there are many wonderful memories stored in it. I am grateful to the Daniels for making it possible for my family to create some of our own.

Absolutely Breathtaking!

We have traveled to Maine for many years and this was by far our most amazing trip yet. Caroll's property and the views are breathtaking. There is a beautiful view from each and every window. We never wanted to leave. Everything about our stay was special, from waking up to the scenic, rocky shores, to our lobster boils every evening. The house is very large, with spacious bedrooms and living spaces. The pictures Caroll has on her site really show the beauty of the house and all the beauty around it.

Fourth Visit!

This was our fourth visit to this wonderful location. We love it! If you are looking for a place to completely get away from everyone, this is it. This was the first time we never left the property the entire week, (except to pick up lobster) and the week went by faster than any other. Days filled with walking and climbing rocks. Evenings having a campfire while listening to the ocean. We were lucky to have a meteor shower while we were there too. So beautiful at night! It is impossible to express how unique this property is and it has become a favorite vacation destination for my entire family. We can’t wait to return! Thanks Carroll and Maureen!

Beautiful home unbelievable views

I can not even begin to tell you how much my family and I enjoyed your home. A month before our vacation my husband was told his leukemia was no longer in remission and he would need to begin treatment again. The vacation could not have come at a better time and I can not envision a better place to relax and enjoy our children and grandchildren. Your home - so welcoming and peaceful with the unbelievable views of the ocean was just what we needed. Since my husband was diagnosed in 2013 we have rented a house each summer for the kids and grandchildren to come and spend quality time- this by far has been our favorite. No one wanted to leave when the week was over. I thank you for sharing your home with my family, I hope one day to rent the home again. Thank you again

The Best Maine Experience Ever!

Dear Carroll and Maureen -- it doesn't seem possible that exactly one week ago today we driving away from Somerled for the last time. I want you know that my family had a spectacluar time! Four generations of my family (Mom and Dad, my three sisters, 4 nieces and assorted husbands and great-nieces) will never forget our visit to Maine and your wonderful home. It was spacious and beautiful. I must confess that I was a bit nervous driving up that long gravel driveway, but once you get there -- oh my -- you never want to leave! We've rented many homes in Maine, other States and in Europe and I can honestly say that this was the best. Beautifully maintained, fully stocked beyond my wildest imagination and a million dollar setting. That view is incredible! I looked forward to getting up every morning and sitting out on the deck with a cup of coffee to watch the seals swim by and the lobsterr men pulling up their traps. We spent a day in Acadia, took a great whale watching cruise out of Lubec, drove over the Campobello and even found some time for relaxing. We dug for clams and made a huge pot of clam chowder. Picked wild blueberries. Made our own lobster rolls. It was the quintessential Maine experience. If you'll allow us, I feel certain that Jeff and I will be back. Perhaps next time with friends. Outstanding Again!

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Somerled for our second visit. We absolutely loved it the first time, and I was wondering if maybe we were going to be disappointed this time. To say that someplace is even better the second time around definitely describes this wonderful, unique home. Since we knew what the area has to offer ahead of time, this made our stay even more relaxing and enjoyable. Words cannot completely describe what you will experience here. If you are searching for someplace peaceful, quiet, and full of nature, this is your answer. The home is located where you will not hear any cars, and the only people you will see are the lobstermen as they pull and set their traps. Seals played in front of the house everyday we were there too! Complete relaxation! As I mentioned in my earlier review, the worst part is having to leave. The long trip we made from Indiana to Somerled is so well worthwhile. We hope to return again in the future, but hope to stay longer next time. The hosts of this home are absolutely wonderful! We WILL return! Thank you for sharing your amazing home!

The Blessing of Somerled!

We made our second trip to Somerled in June/July 2013. It was more glorious than our first visit and best vacation, ever! The owners are very accommodating. The home is fabulous and spacious. We call it comfortable luxury - everything is really nice - but you also feel right at home! A few paragraphs do not do justice to the experience. The home has incredible views from all rooms with the crashing ocean and sea critters at the back deck, then the Maine woods and wildlife in the front yard - and oh golly, the most remarkable sunrises, sunsets and moon shining over the ocean. The bedrooms are plushy and comfortable, bathrooms spacious, kitchen has everything you need. During our two week stay, we saw and photographed all manner of birds and other wildlife, including almost daily sightings of eagles and nesting merlins. We had frequent sightings and shots of seal, moose, giant moths, and numerous dorsal fins. (Bring binoculars so you don’t miss a thing!) Somerled provides your own private haven for hiking, rock climbing, fishing, exploring tide pools, and photography opportunities beyond belief. The house is sufficiently off the beaten path for privacy, with short drives for shopping, whale or puffin watching, antiquing, sight-seeing, restaurants, etc. We arrived in western part of Maine a few days early for other sight-seeing, but we could not wait to get back to the Cutler house and always hate to leave. Relax, rest, play, recharge. The blessing of Somerled is never far from our hearts and minds.

Not a stay to remember

This is the first time we felt the need to post a critical review about a house, but we feel we have to make other travelers aware of certain facts. The location of this property is indeed unique and secluded, above a rocky shore in Downeast Maine. In contrast, we were startled by the so called "luxury estate" looking plain and poorly built, with plastic decks that have seen better days, very dated fixtures and entertainment amenities, cheap looking ceramic tile floors, and barren landscaping. Several of the lavatories and the BBQ were obviously not cleaned from the last visit. The listing touts walking trails and a private beach but when we were there the "trails" turned out to be marshy bogs blocked with fallen trees and the "private beach" required a half a mile drive and then another half an hour hike through a similar tree blocked swamp. There is no way to access or use the ocean in any way from the house, and every outdoor activity requires a long drive. Rampant mosquitoes, the worst we've seen anywhere, made using the outdoor space impossible. We tried every commercial grade spray they had in the store to no avail. Eating in the house meant staying indoors or having to fight the mosquito hoards. Needless to say, our stay was most disappointing. But to top our experience, the owner "forgot" to return our deposit and when we asked for it, she made up cockamamie excuses, most of them too distasteful to be mentioned here. She then promised to "verify" the issues on her next visit. We are not holding our breath ...

The bold, crashing sea, away from all the crowds is the first and foremost attraction! Yet, additionally, we had never before seen stars like you will see from the deck of the house. You will feel like you can reach up and touch the milky way. In the late fall, the northerrn lights are mesmerizing. The smell of the sea and pines soothe the soul and the quiet and respectful pace of life in this part of the country reminds us of the amazing beauty and kindness that it is still possible to find in very special places.
