Ocean's Edge Cottage w/beautiful views of midcoast Maine for 2.
Two story cottage, built on the ocean's edge, faces west for beautiful sunsets. Lobster boats can be viewed early in the morning hauling their traps. The cottage sits on an inlet that is great for kayaking, fishing, swimming and especially relaxing. Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herrings, gulls, seals, Eider and duck families can be viewed by the enclosed porch, as well as the deck that is built over the ledges. This is a great area for jogging, walking or bike riding. Rockland, (The Maine Lobster Festival and Blues Festival), Damariscotta or Camden is just 30 minutes away. Boothbay Harbor and Pemaquid Point can be reached in an hour.
We had a nice time staying in this lovely little place right on the water over July 4th weekend. It was very peaceful and the view couldnât be beat. There was a near constant breeze so we were very comfortable and really got to enjoy the deck and porch. The only disappointment was learning that the float had been taken out of the water and there are no plans to return it to the water which meant there is no way to safely get in the water to swim (the large rocks on the waterâs edge were covered in seaweed). We really wish the listing had been updated because the float was a big part of why we chose this place, and accepted high holiday rates as well. Another warning for future renters - the electricity in the cabin is quite limited. Each room has a single bulb in the ceiling with a pull chain. There arenât outlets in the bedrooms, only extension cords running from the ceiling light. So if you want to have a fan running (or your phone charging) overnight, you need to leave the light fixture on and unscrew the bulb. The last thing Iâll mention is the need to be very conservative with water. The cabinâs water comes from a small well that is shared with the ownerâs property. The owners asked that we be very frugal with water (not to flush all that often and thereâs a tub in the sink to wash dishes in so you donât waste water). It wasnât a big deal but something to take note of if you plan on doing a lot of hikes (like we did and thoroughly enjoyed) and want to shower everyday.
The location was beautiful. The cottage was a throw back to a simplier time. We watched the stars instead of cable, read instead of being on our phones. Narrow stairs to come down at night for the first floor bath. There is a home, not pictured, about 18 feet to the left that was occupied and took away some of the privacy and charm.
The cottage is lovely and comfortable, with spectacular views. The sunsets were beautiful and the clear skies at night were amazing. The kitchen had what you would need for making meals and a good size fridge for keeping supplies. Friendship is a nice small town and we were lucky enough to be there for a town celebration which we enjoyed.
My only concern was not being able to lock the front door. I understand it's secluded there, but I'm sure the owner's house across the way has locks. I put our suitcase in front of the door each night and was completely shocked to see it moved aside early one morning when I got up to use the bathroom at 4:30 am. Turned out that the chain in the toilet tank sticks (this should have been mentioned when we checked in) and when I used the bathroom just before heading upstairs to bed, the water kept running and the well ran dry overnight. The owner came in to check it while we were sleeping upstairs. I felt that leaving a note would have been appropriate, though she did send a text later at 6:30 am asking us to call.
Aside from that issue, we enjoyed our time there and would return if a lock was installed. I would only recommend this if you're comfortable leaving your door unlocked all the time.
This property was beautiful. A very quiet area. You are right on the water with your own dock. The cottage was tastefully decorated and immaculate. The ocean breezes kept us cool. The owner, Lisa, was readily available if you needed anything. Great place to relax and enjoy the views. Thank you , Lisa.
The cabin was very nice and location is special, we watch eagles, ospreys, seals and other wildlife daily along with beautiful sunsets over the ocean. We thank the owners for being so pleasant and helpful
Incredibly cute accommodations. Enjoyed kayaking and swimming off the dock.
Lovely setting, quiet and peaceful. We sighted a seal, and generally loved it. The house is well kept, comfortable and a time capsule all in one.Itâs an old fashioned summer cottage that is lovingly maintained. And Lisa could not be nicer or more accommodating. Very, very highly recommended.
Description and pictures are very accurate. House is very clean, quiet and private. Owner is warm, welcoming and helpful. If you need quiet, this is perfect.
Peaceful and beautiful setting on the water. Wonderful sunsets and wildlife sightings.
Ocean's Edge is a great getaway. Friendship is a quiet non-touristy town. The waters are great for kayaking and exploring. The house is comfortable and the large screen porch is perfect for watching the lobster boats at work and eating their catch.
The deck being built over the ledges and very close to the water makes this a very relaxing atmosphere to sit and listen to the tide splashing on the ledges and fisherman hauling their traps, not to mention sun bathing and listening our local feathered friends, and maybe spying a seal diving for fish.
