We've been booking through VACASA for decades. We have never been disappointed until this trip. After a hectic 6 hour drive, we arrived to find that the elevator to the 5th floor was under previously scheduled repair and would remain so for weeks to come. We should have been notified of this, as my husband and I are both disabled. I have a brain tumor that causes mobility and visual impairments, and my husband has congestive heart failure, making it very difficult to breathe. Many times we managed to get up and down the stairs with help from some very kind strangers. Other times we struggled through on our own with several falls to show for it. Since the repair to the elevator was a planned repair, we should have been notified in advance of our trip so that we could reschedule. There's no excuse for assuming that all guests can handle climbing stairs. Disabilities and special needs should have been taken into account.
Additionally, the unit itself was not fully prepared for new guests. There was no handsoap in the kitchen or bathrooms, and the shower shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the master bath were only a quarter full. There were no trash bags. Of course, we purchased our own, but this was a let down, given the long day we'd already had. Speaking of which, you can imagine how difficult it was for any 5th floor guest to get groceries up and down the stairs. In fact, several glass jars broke through our grocery bags and shattered everywhere when we were climbing the stairs. I tried to call the on-site VACASA rep over and over to make sure someone cleaned it up before another guest got injured but no one ever answered the phone. Finally, I reached a gentleman at the front gate who made sure the glass was cleaned up.
There was water up under the kitchen sink, the source of which was an old dirty sponge, so heavy with water it leaked everywhere. The closet floor with beach chairs and the broom was filled with sand. And the WiFi was basically non-existent.
We were so miserable during this trip, we know we will not return to the Island Club, nor will we book through VACASA again. That's sad after decades of loyalty.
