The property is beautiful and accommodating and the house is cozy. Our group had a wonderful weekend and Jeremy was a great host and very communicative. Great location and nice little getaway spot.
Jeremy was wonderful. The house was clean and charming. We so appreciated being able to bring our fur child. We would definitely choose to stay here again.
We travel 2x year for swim meets at Spire, we are always looking for that perfect house. Weâve found it!
Itâs close to where we need to be, tons of space, dog friendly, the house is so adorable and the hosts are amazing!!
We absolutely loved our stay in this cozy little house beautiful backyard very well. Maintained house. Loved all the pictures of the dogs but absolutely stay again 10 out of 10. Great communication with the host as well very nice family
We all enjoyed the house and the outdoor space. The home was well furnished and clean. We spent most of our trip outside at the fire pit. Great spot will stay again if traveling back to area.
This house was a perfect location for our holiday stay! Christmas decorations including a decorated tree were great for Christmas morning. Jeremy is an excellent host, easy to get ahold of and made sure we were all set for our stay.
I love this house! Such a great property! We loved the porch and all of the cool bedrooms. Everything was perfect - owners incredibly nice and thoughtful! Thanks for the great visit!
The property is beautiful and full of character. Itâs perfectly located to explore many local wineries. The beds were comfy. The special touches from the host were thoughtful. It is a peaceful gorgeous space and outdoor entertaining area. Jeremy was so accommodating and responsive. Will book this property again in the future.
Our friend group of five couples have stayed at Yellow Dog twice now. The house is nicely set up to accommodate everyone. There is plenty of room to play games and the kitchen is well appointed. Of course, the location is great too. AND...Eddie, the yellow dog even stops over for friendly visits!!
We stayed at the Yellow Dog Retreat for my sister's bachelorette weekend get-away. Our stay was absolutely perfect - the house and property are beautiful and we had everything we needed and more!!
Jeremy and Chelsey provided us with a bunch of tips as far as their favorite local bars and wineries and entertainment at each for the weekend. The property is right down the road from several wineries and only a 15 minute drive to the strip in Geneva - a very convenient location!
We also had the pleasure of meeting the dogs, Eddie and Brucey, and enjoyed all of the pictures of them throughout the house. Would absolutely stay here again in the future!
I wish I could give the owners and their property more than 5 stars! The house was beautiful, comfortable and had everything that we needed. The outside deck had a beautiful view and felt very private and comfortable. Jeremy checked on us everyday and their dogs baited daily as well - we enjoyed that so much! The house is located near so many beautiful wineries and only 15 minutes from Geneva on the Lake. I would recommend this property and owners to anyone thinking of visiting that area of Ohio and will definitely return!
I've stayed in many places around Geneva on the Lake, this has beeny favorite. House was clean, beds were comfy, kitchen had everything you needed. The porch had tons of seating and the fire pit was well done with lots of seats and outdoor lighting. If there was any downside at all, be aware there are steps into the main area and bedrooms if steps are a problem for you. If not..... It's a perfect vacation location.
Yellow Dog Retreat and the Grand River Valley is a hidden gem treat on the road between Midwest colleges (Marquette, Wisconsin, Michigan, Chicago, Notre Dame, Northwestern) and the east coast. We had a great time unwinding on the way home from college off at the many lovely vineyards in the area. The house is spotless and beautifully maintained. The back deck is extremely pleasant for relaxing with lots of space to read a book or enjoy a meal. Jeremy and Chelsea are experienced and thoughtful hosts who run a great show!
Very clean and nicely decorated! Owner very fast at communication. The only con of this house is 1 of bathrooms is on the ground floor where you enter the house at mudroom. Then you go up to main floor with kitchen/dining room and living room and 1 bedroom. Then up a flight of stairs to 3rd floor with 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom. Then up another flight (4th floor) with 3 more bedrooms. Lots of stairs for getting to a bathroom for most of the bedrooms. Hard for older people and someone with MS.
I don't normally book a place without reading the reviews but since there were none I was a little sceptical. But this house was amazing! We were here (7 ladies) for the ice wine festival. The owners had some goodies for us when we arrived which was a nice touch. They also had a board which had all of the entertainment that were playing that weekend and what they recommended. The house was very clean and well stocked with plenty of toilet paper and supplies. They even had coffee and filters for us. The hardwood floors were beautiful . We were a little concerned the house would be drafty because of its age but it was not. We also got to meet the infamous yellow dog himself, Eddie. Also if you are going to use the shuttle service I recommend Jessie from Grand Rivers. He picked us up right at the front door. Yep, we're definitely going to be booking with Jeremy again.
This property couldnât be better! The house was spotless, the decor charming and the outside, between the covered and uncovered deck, as well as a huge fire pit was beautiful! Plenty of room for everyone to have their own space. The owners are BY FAR, the nicest Iâve come across since renting from VRBO. We will most assuredly be back!! Thanks again Jeremy and Chelsey! And special thanks to Eddie and Brucey!!
We stayed here to celebrate my wifeâs birthday with her family, and we had wonderful experience. Weather was not too great during our visit but the backyard setup with bonfire and lighting made it easy to fall in love with this lovely property. Also, Jeremy and his yellow fur baby Eddie are the great host. Great communication and great hospitality. We would recommend to anyone who is looking for cute stay nearby Geneva on the lake wineries and enjoy family/friends gatherings.
Very nice renovation in the heart of vineyard country. We had 5 adults and a dog, and two more adults joined us for an overnight stay, accommodations were very comfortable. Outdoor patios are huge with plenty of seating and also a big outdoor firepit area. 5 minute car ride from all the wineries, many of them right down the street. Owners live nearby and were friendly, hospitable and genuinely cared about our stay and accommodations. We've rented a lot of condo's and vacation homes and this one is very well stocked with everything you need. No running to the big box store for households items, just bring food and you are all set. Thanks for a wonderful time.
I was born and raised in Madison and graduated from Madison High School. My wife, Chelsey was born and raised in an even smaller town in Pennsylvania. We met while attending Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
We purchased our 'forever home' in 2011 which is located immediately to the east of Yellow Dog Retreat. It came with approximately 2.5 acres and is a century home that was moved from Unionville sometime in the 1950s. I always had my eye on the big barn located near our house to store my boat and pursued purchasing this small parcel of land from the owners. The owners countered with an offer to acquire the barn, the house and an additional 7+ acres of property. After a little convincing, Chelsey agreed to take the leap and we pulled the trigger. We closed on the property Easter weekend of 2016 (so blessed!) and spent over 2.5 years flipping it into a place for family, friends and new friends (YOU) to relax and have a good time. It's been a tremendous learning experience and we never could have done this without the loving support and help from our family and friends!
The property is full of history! Our house was moved from Unionville sometime in the 1950s and served as a large dairy farm. A large barn formerly sat out back but burned down in the 1970s during a thunderstorm. We still have the newspaper clipping and the old barn ramp is visible to the southeast of Yellow Dog Retreat. Yellow Dog Retreat itself is a former Sears Roebuck House from the 1930s that was originally constructed about 100 feet to the south of where is currently sits. Sometime in the 1960s, the house was dismantled piece by piece (no idea why), rotated 90 degrees, and put back together in its current location. The original wood siding was also covered up with brick when it was rebuilt (thicker walls & better insulation!). A lot of the furniture, barn wood, etc. that we used on decorating Yellow Dog Retreat came from the property, itself. For instance, the antique window hanging on the porch came from underneath piles of junk that we found in the barn. The rustic antique window collage hanging above the couch came from the old grain bins on the property. Oh, and about the name. Well we have an 8-year old yellow lab named Eddie. He's our best friend! 'Yellow Dog Retreat' was a working title the entire time we were remodeling... "Chels, I'm going over to Yellow Dog for a few hours...." that sort of thing. Well the name just stuck!
