Great property owner was available and communicated with us promptly. We had a great time and loved the property. We recommend this to anyone that wants to stay close to New Orleans but not in the city. Thanks for sharing your home.
This place was amazing. It was almost eerie with the fog coming off the bayou. The atmosphere was awesome. It was close enough to New Orleans to go do stuff but far enough away to not be bugged by the crowds. Perfect location for us. The house was old and quaint. My only complaint would be that one of the showers was unusable for showering because there wasnât a a shower head in the one. But certainty wasnât worth a negative rating. I would definitely stay there again.
First time in Louisiana for our nephews wedding. Nice size beautiful historic home. Slept amazing! Perfect house as a base of operation to explore Louisiana.
Amazingly quiet yet just minutes from WalMart and restaurants. Relaxing walks along Tammany Trace. Beautiful glass walls in sunroom allowed nature viewing with indoor comfort. Owner was quick to respond to our needs.
for the most part all good, house needs pictures updated and back of the house needs more illumination on the rear part and thru-out the property and certainly check on the roaches a few here and there over all a nice cozy place and good location.
This was a nice place to stay. I would recommend more lighting through the entrance and definitely, most certainly need a better address sign. Our GPS stated we were there but there was no sign in the street area or drive way to alert there is a property back there. In fact, if you turn too soon where the GPS states you are there you may wind up in a ditch These are hidden driveways, but there can still be a more visible sign to alert guest where to make the turn into the property. I encourage people to buy water case as the water is oily and it seems to be a thing in NOLA. The property is in good shape but, at night significantly dark. The location was near most stores and restaurant and close to the highway once you know your way around. It had a Victorian feel and it was definitely quaint and comfortable.
Wonderful historical house well furnished with a mix of age that lends to the character and charm of the dwelling.
My wife was craving for historical information on the house.
Area location is a bit secluded from city life but very close to restaurants and shopping.
It was about a 30 min drive to New Orleans
Plenty of property for adventure , old and comfortable like an antique rocking chair yet you could hit a golf ball from countless stores and restaurants and land in the gravel drive
Good beds and great view of the bayou
Some negatives but satisfied all the needs of resting our heads and chilling out
I reserved this property in a rush to provide housing for our children when they came to visit their dying grandmother. Shortly after booking, I found out my son had also rented a house, making this booking unnecessary.Because I had booked within 48 hours of check-in, I was unable to cancel. I sent a message to the host, but got no reply for two days. When I finally did get a response, I was told that he would contact VRBO and refund half the rent. After contacting him multiple times since then, though, that still hasn't happened.Since I never actually set foot on the property, I cannot attest as to the condition. I can only rate the responsivness of the host as very poor. What would we have done if we did stay there and had a major issue with the property?Rent this property at your own risk. You may get an attentive host, or you may just get ghosted.
A warm and cozy home steeped in nostalgic decor. The outdoor space was perfect for our family to enjoy fishing, kayaking and biking. The old pipes were a bit worrisome, and the old cooktop made cooking for our large group a challenge. Otherwise, it was a great experience.
The bayou and home are beautiful. I waited a bit to leave this review because I wanted to give the host some grace to communicate with us about some situations that needed to be addressed. Before arrival he mentioned he was in hospital and apologized for his late response to questions. When we arrived there were problems with kayaks, bikes, and fireplace - to name a few. We reached out and never heard from him. Iâve reached out again and have still never heard from him. Our group left the place genuinely worried for him. I hope he is ok.
My son and I booked a trip with this house specifically as a homebase for several days of fishing in the bayouâs. This house was chosen specifically for having an outdoor grill and bike availability and trail access. The grill was there but I poor shape and no gas tank. There were two bike one with a completely broken sprocket and the other in poor shape. I contacted the host by phone four times leaving messages as well using the VRBO messaging system on the app. The host never responded and still hast 8 days after the trip. The house is unique but not tended to clearly. Roaches were present when the light went out but that was not that alarming given the age and location of the house. I feel I should be returned at least half of my money given how poorly I was treated as a âguestâ. This will be a good case study for the premium I pay each time I use VRBO.
Overall it was a nice place with a quiet location. All 4 beds are very comfy and rooms are well sized. However, there wasn't Internet and the TVs didn't work. The coffee maker is terrible and needs some maintenance
we were staying at the property as my family lives in Slidell and I was visiting from Wisconsin. I grew up in New Orleans, but Iâve been gone 30 years. It was nice to be able to be so close to their homes.
The character of the home was outstanding. We really wanted to know a little bit more of the history of the home. To be honest, my only complaint would be the washer and dryer. I believe the washer is broken or the timing is off because it would literally go through two cycles, and we would try to put it on the setting possible. The dryer took forever to dry the clothes but we made due.
It was worth it to our family to stay in this beautiful house.
This is absolutely my favorite rental I have stayed at. The inside is so charming and full of antiques. It was so warm and cozy. I canât say enough about how amazing the beds are as well. I am extremely particular regarding mattresses, and I actually checked to see if I could find the name of the mattress company so I can buy for my house. I think theyâre memory foam?
My favorite part of the house has to be the sunroom. Sitting on a clean, comfortable couch couch and enjoying the scenery in a air condition some room was worth itâs weight in gold. I spent most of my time out there reading and enjoying the scenery. Also having a TV out there for movie night was simply the best. I will come back specifically for that sunroom. I wish I could take it home with me. Haha.
One more of the many reasons why I loved this rental so much, was the bayou proximity and the kayaks. We were right on the bayou and could just load the provided kayaks right into the water from the backyard. Talk about amazing! We floated down the river with clover like moss floating on top of the river. It was straight out of a movie. We went kayaking every single day. The views were spectacular and I canât say enough about how much I loved it.
I am definitely going to return again. I highly recommend this place. :)
My name is David, I purchased this property in 2018 with my husband Christopher. We made this purchase because we fell in love with the home and the property and wanted to share it with other people. I was born in New Orleans and Christopher was born in Albuquerque. We have lived in New Orleans for the last 15 years. I am a local real estate agent in the area. Real estate is my entire life. I love all aspects of it. In my free time I love traveling, staying fit, collecting art, and spending as much time with family, friends and our dogs as much as possible.
The great thing about this property is, it's just minutes from everything in Slidell, however it's private and secluded. The grounds are stunning, it's waterfront and it honestly feels like you've gone a century back in time the minute you enter the grounds, however you have all of the modern conveniences.
