Anchor House is a cute cottage harkening back to the old days of Southport. Its quaint and eclectic furnishings along with retro feel is cozy. Alas, we discovered when we pulled up, itâs for sale & Iâm guessing it will go the way of other little older homes.
We thoroughly enjoyed our three days at Anchor House. The weather was unbearably HOT, but the house allowed us to feel right at home. Upkeep of the house is impeccable. We hope to be able to visit again!!!!!
We loved the location of this cottage. We could walk to downtown and some great restaurants like Southern: a gathering place and Dry Street Pizza. It had a wonderful large fenced in yard for our dog to run and a wonderful screened porch out back. It may have been closed up for a while as there was a musty smell when we first walked in. It could use a little tlc.
This is our 3rd stay at Anchor House and we will be back! We love the location in a quiet residential area and that our dogs are comfy and provided for. The fenced yard is a great feature and gives our furbabies a place to run off leash safely.
As usual, the home itself is quite well-appointed and comfortable, with plenty of space. The office area is really convenient when we need to bring work with us. And we appreciate that the basic needs (trash bags, paper products, linens) are provided, saving us from having to bring so much with us. Having multiple methods of making coffee is great, as well. Whether you are K-cup people or ground-coffee people, the kitchen can handle your favorite brew.
We love this home enough to plan our visits around when it is available. It's worth it.
We were in town during a tropical storm, and Anchor House was the perfect place to spend a day inside. Quirky inside and well equipped. Although we could not figure out the stove, everything else worked fine. Location is great as well.
We loved staying at Anchor House except for one thing. The beds were very, very uncomfortable - way to firm. So much so that we left a day early to return home to our own bed. Additionally, it would be nice if one of the beds was a king sized bed. We both flopped around in bed so much, trying to get comfortable, we ended up sleeping in separate queen sized beds during our stay. đ
We had a great stay at Anchor House! The house was everything we could have wanted and more. Perfect for relaxing and enjoying some of the great local cuisine. Our dog loved the house and the fenced in backyard! Will definitely stay there again!
We enjoyed our stay very much! Easy access to all the shops and restaurants; easy drive to Oak Island. We loved the houseâŠthe kitchen is new, the showers were great (one inside, one outside), the bed was comfortable, great closet space, and was as described. Highly recommend, hope to return.
This was by far one of the cutest beach houses we have been at. Just the perfect size for our needs and our dogs loved the backyard! Can't wait to stay again! Thank you.
My husband and I visit Southport and Oak Island regularly to visit family. We typically stay in hotel but now have two dogs that we like to bring with us. The Anchor House Retreat was a great spot for us. The house had a fenced in back yard with plenty of room for the pups to run and play. The neighborhood was quite and close to downtown. The house had everything we needed for our stay.
The property manager was great to work with. We arrived to town a little head of schedule and the property manager was kind enough to let us check in a little early. Communication with them was great.
We really liked the look of the house online and when we pulled up. Upon entering the house, we were greeted with a smokey smell that intensified in the bathroom. Thankfully, we brought our diffuser to help with the smell. The kitchen is beautiful but we saw ants on the countertops. Not pleasant. I messaged the property management company but did not hear back. There was a pretty good size backyard for our small dogs to run around in, but we noticed previous renters did not pick up after themselves, which was gross. We were thankful for the back porch and outdoor shower, however it does not seem as if any cleaning has been done in a LONG time. Cobwebs and in-use spider webs, and lots of debris on the floor in the screened in porch. Not a place where we wanted to hang out anymore. We had to clean the outdoor shower and when using it, the flow was so low that it was a little more than a trickle. The next night we were greeted with cockroaches and more ants in the cabinets. We put our food away but the ants were able to get in and take over. We kept the rest of our stuff in the refrigerator. I messaged the property management again, but there was no reply. We wanted to use mugs and cups for coffee and water, which a keurig was provided and we were thankful for, however the ants were all over all the plates, bowls, cups, and mugs. We did not make 1 meal in that house, nor use anything in the kitchen for drinking because of the grossness we encountered. I messaged again - no reply and finally called. The property management company gave us $100 refund for the cleaning fee and offered to set traps for the ants. I was not wanting to have that since we had 1 more day left and stayed out as much as we could. I would not recommend this house unless the owners spray for insects on a regular basis and wished the management company would communicate better. It was unfortunate and sadly, we did not really enjoy our time in the house. Best wishes to those who rent here in the future.
My kids and I stayed for the week. The house is amazing. My son wanted to take the kitchen home. I really liked the kitchen too. Everything was nice and clean and very close to the beach and shops. We loved the funky bathroom shower. Back yard was great for the dogs. We hope to rent the house again. I only gave 4 stars for the check in process because there was an issue with the locks but the realty company was easy to get a hold of and came right over with another set of keys. We really enjoyed our stay.
The property is really nice..it was the quality of the beds that made the rating so low..I didnât sleep all week..the bed was so stiff and uncomfortable..the futon not much better..went from sleeping on a wood pallet to a brick yard..from bad to worse..actually..also the stove didnât work upon arrival fancy stove had to be reset by maintenance the next day..also wasnât a grill there when I was told there was and e could use it..they did fix that situation by asking the neighbor if we could use theirs but that was annoying we had to cook the steaks over there..I liked the house but they Need new beds Desperately
The patio & yard were great. My husband & I are both disabled & have service dogs so this was wonderful for them. They even had a little pet bed that my older dog loved. The house was reasonably clean(I'm a bit of a clean freak& cleaned more anyways)I love how cute it was decorated & that the owner must have also been a dog lover. They had quite a few books & games. The owner thought of nearly everything his guests would like. I even got to use an induction control for The 1st time. (a wonderful 1st experience for me)The beds were a bit rough for us gave us bad backaches, but I just had spinal surgery & we're both older so next time we will bring a memory foam topper & air mattress I would suggest to anyone with a bad back to do the same. Other than that the place was perfect for us. I believe if we were younger & in better health the beds wouldn't have been an issue. Almost forgot to mention how nice the neighborhood was. There was a nice little park only a block away with small walking trails & deer & wildlife(very nice for a walk in the evenings.). The location was perfect. Close to the oceanfront park & little shops of Southport & less than a mile from my son's house & Wal-Mart mall. Would defiantly recommend to anyone visiting Southport and wanting to be in the middle of all the good stuff it has to offer. My thanks to the owner .
Check in was simple. Pick up keys in a lockbox. The only issue we had with the rental was less than desirable mattresses on both beds. The mattresses were rather hard and the bedrooms could certainly accommodate larger beds.. Overall, we loved our stay.
This house was very convenient allowing you to explore this charming town. In peak season, you May want to rent a golf cart rentals at the end of the road to venture around. The house has everything you need to enjoy your stay. There are queen beds in each of the bedrooms, 1 bathroom, fenced yard, and screened porch. The only suggestion - beds need new mattresses. We loved our time here!
We had a very comfortable and enjoyable 4 night stay with our Westie. The nearby park is a fun stop. The house has everything that you may need and all the amenities are beyond basic. It's in a quiet neighborhood - lots of birds & butterflies. We walked from the house all around town and the beaches are an easy drive.
This is a great little house, very stylish, simple but well appointed. Very close to all the Southport attractions. Big fenced-in back yard worked great for our dog. Great kitchen. Need a little more detail on the induction cooktop guidelines - we didn't realize until we looked on line that you have to power on the whole cooktop first, then power on each individual burner. Once we got it going it was great to cook on though. Everything is clean and comfortable and attractive - was just what we needed, thank you!!!
Great, family friendly property. We didnât have dogs but if you do, youâll love this place! Also if youâre a cook youâll truly enjoy the top of the line appliances. However you may balk at the lack of a microwave, like we did! Otherwise the kitchen is perfectly stocked for babies and adults alike.
The ONLY reason we wouldnât return is the comfort of the mattresses and pillows. We woke up sore every morning, and never feeling well rested. Which is such a shame because this place was truly amazing otherwise! Iâd rate the beds 1 out of 5 stars, the rest of the experience easily a 4 to 5 star. If the beds are replaced we will 100% be back. The owner has provided everything else youâd need (except salt- bring that haha). Grateful for our experience regardless- amazing family time and memories. Ps- tons of mosquitoes- so donât forget the spray and keep the doors closed!
Located close to Loco Jo's, a favorite locals bar and restaurant and up and coming Streatside take out meals. Easily accessible to popular tourist areas but located in a more residential area still only 2 blocks to dining and shopping. Contact Southport Realty for monthly winter rates!
