Lot of interesting history with this cabin, owner very nice communicated eagerly. Did not find out about how musty it was until we arrived thru a note sitting on the table. No dehumidification beside opening windows. We had to leave a night early because I could not stop coughing or sleep with the musty odors. Owner replied "sorry" and no other compensation:( my only vacation blown!
Amazing celebration of great lake history and family
This historic cottage neatly tucked near the shore of Lake Michigan, provided a magical stay! Watching sunsets at the corner, exploring the woods across the street and walking a few minutes to a sandy public beach provided hours of dun.
The host was easy to communicate with and the property was as listed. The location and the cottage vibes were on point. We enjoyed our stay here and could see ourselves coming back.
Beachwoods was the perfect location for a relaxing family vacation. We intended to venture into the adorable town of Charlevoix, but the cabin and surrounding area was so lovely, we found ourselves spending the entire long weekend exploring the cabin, trails, rocky peninsula, dunes, and beach. Thank you for sharing this treasure with us!
We loved staying at this special home. It is not for everyone, but perfect for people that appreciate a curated and incredible place that should almost be in a museum. It is filled with beautiful seafaring details of a seaman and loving memories of Lake Michigan from days gone by. Additionally, the owner could not have been more helpful and attentive.
The most eccentric home youâll ever have the pleasure of staying in.
This home is a wonderful feast for the eyes and senses. There are so many wonderful items and pieces of history that run deep though ought this historical home. You will feel the pride of the ownerâs family home as she shares her beautiful history with you. The location couldnât be better as you can take in the trails and beach only steps away. Day trips are easy and fun. Charlevoix, Walloon, Petoskey, and Harbor Springs are favorites.
This place is amazing, don't let the pictures fool you. It's your classic, rustic Up North cottage with all the charm and extra clean......AND so much interesting history. They've done an amazing job of keeping the original details intact while making it comfortable. There's an amazing beach less than 1 block to the north with Charlevoix and Petosky stones to be found (make sure you bring water shoes), you can walk out 200 yards and search for rocks all day long. Directly across the street is a path you can take to 10 minute walk straight through the forest of Mt. McSauba until you reach Lake Michigan OR walk or drive south three blocks to the public access and enjoy a little hike in. You're less than 2 miles from Charlevoix. We'll be back!!!
Lovely location in the trees a few minutes walk to the lake where you can sit admiring the view on the benches or explore the mainly rocky beach. Met lots of friendly neighbours there whilst watching sunsets over the lake. The sandy beaches can be walked to through the woods. The log cabin is definitely unique with lots to explore! The newer section with the sun room, large shower room and very well designed bathroom was a pleasant surprise. The historic log cabin part is very pretty. The kitchen is in the older part and although functional is very small. Loads of cooking utensils though and basic ingredients. Outside there are lots of comfortable chairs/ loungers although a patio table to eat outside would be nice. Initial entry was through the kitchen but I think more impact would be made if the first impression would be made through the new back door. Laura was very responsive and helpful with any queries.
Beach Woods was so much more than expected! It was simply the perfect location tucked away surrounded by nature just steps from Lake Michigan but also just a short drive to Charlevoix, Petosky, Boyne City and so much more. This unique and charming cottage was a true retreat away from it all and our time spent there was relaxing. A recharge for our souls. Laura was super easy to communicate with and the cottage was well stocked. The beds were cozy and the shower amazing (spacious with great water pressure)! Beach Woods is a true gem and my family and I look forward to staying there again!
We loved our stay. It was perfect to be able to walk to Lake Michigan and very close to town too. The house was so interesting and the host was very helpful!
Perfect location. Cute little cabin with an interesting twist. I enjoy grilling and they had a good one for our use. Overall we had a great vacation at this property.
We had a lovely time at this unique home near the lake shore. The nearby nature preserve was fun to explore, and the beach on the other side was quiet and pleasant. Charlevoix is close by, but the crowds are not; it was a very relaxing week in one of the most interesting vacation homes we've ever seen.
Laura was a five star hostess!!
The cabin is charming, entertaining, cozy, equipped with everything you could possibly need, new roomy shower, large bathroom, soft bedding and the location is amazing !!!
The cabin was very clean and situated right by the trails into the woods and sand dunes. We loved exploring the woods and beach. The lake water was crystal clear. The cabin felt very private but was situated in a quiet neighborhood. This rustic special cabin has clearly been well loved through the generations. It was a super location for us to explore the region with our kids before they go back to college. The owner was very easy to work with.
If you are looking for a comfortable experience in a vintage Michigan cabin then look no further. Half a block from the lake and across the street from a nature preserve with trails through the woods to more beaches just added to the enjoyment of our stay. Cabin has all the comforts you could ask for during your stay along with more personal touches than you can imagine inside and out. It's like everywhere you look inside there is something new to learn about the history of the place and surrounding region. On top of it, Laura is great to work with and provides everything and more for your arrival. My partner and I came here earlier in the summer and enjoyed it so much we brought our mothers back for a second stay. They loved it as well. Cabin location is centrally located for exploring the region down to Traverse City, up to Petoskey, Harbor Springs, and the the Tunnel of Trees are all day trip distance from here. So glad we found this property and the pleasant owners to have a place to enjoy when we venture to this area again. Looking forward to the next time.

Despite living all around the country (Houston Phoenix, Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Connecticut, DC and Chicago) I have come to our cottage every summer. I recently moved from Chicago to Charlevoix and live in this wonderful cottage as much as possible. My grandparents, uncle, mother and father dedicated themselves to make this beautiful place as special as possible.
My uncle and his friends used to rent this property when they were in college ( in the early 40s) He fell in love with it and my grandmother bought it. It has been passed down through generations and our family returns every year to enjoy the splendors of Charlevoix, specifically the Mt McSauba area. The New York Times once named Charlevoix one of the top 3 places to visit in the country and called it the Martha's vineyard of the Northwest. Golfing, boating, biking, and hiking enthusiasts frequent this lovely town. Diverse and popular restaurants and shopping add to the appeal. Beautiful beaches on Lake Michigan and Charlevoix dot the area. Our cottage offers the best of both worlds: peaceful in it's location but less than 2 miles from downtown. One renter called our cottage, "An American Eden." Two other couples rented it for their honeymoon week.
This originally was a quaint log cabin in the woods by the lake. Decades of additions and improvements have made this a beloved home where our family journeys from all over the country to meet. People used to be allowed to salvage artifacts from shipwrecks and my uncle made wonderful pieces of furniture from timbers and wrought iron. Throughout the cabin are relics from the James Sawyer, Thomas Parsons, Leonard Hanna and other shipwrecks. Captain Allie Moore ( and local legend and close family friend) is represented in our cottage too. The indoor stone and brick fireplace was built by my uncle. My Grandfather and uncle built the outdoor stone fireplace. My mother refinished the interior logs and ship timbers that adorn the home. White pine paneling, cedar logs and authentic, handcrafted furniture add to the charm. Beautiful gardens and a nice lawn are among the outdoor features. We have a view of lake Michigan and enjoy watching the gorgeous sunsets and spectacular stars!
