We were so in love with the Sheldon House. It is beautiful, spacious, and has everything you might need. Cannot say enough about how beautiful and historic the home is.
Wonderful property! Beautiful surroundings! Owner was very helpful when non-emergency issues arose and answered questions promptly. We will stay here again!
We were in town for family wedding. It was the perfect house with plenty of room for all 13 of us. The solarium was a great room for playing cards, games and relaxing after the days' events.
This older but grand house was a delight to inhabit for our annual sibling retreat. We're all about hanging out together, cooking and eating and playing, and this was spacious and well-equipped. The weather was rainy and cool, but we had so much space to play games, watch movies, and relax that we didn't mind!
My husband, five friends, and myself shared this amazing space for four days.
You can feel the great energy as soon as you walk in the door. The home is even more beautiful and spacious than the photos portray.
Ed was very easy to get a hold of and graciously gave us local suggestions on restaurants.
We hope to stay there again and make more memories. âĄ
When we booked the trip, we knew we were getting a nice place to stay, but didn't realize how amazing and historic this house would be.
Ed was an amazing host - contactless entry, available by phone/text anytime, and always available to answer questions. The house was immaculate and so much fun to explore. 11 of us stayed in the house, and at no time did we feel like we were crowding each other. There was plenty of space to play, relax, eat, and enjoy each other's company.
Easily the best family vacations we've had in years, and we will certainly be back again!
Beautiful property. Convenient location. A lot of extras you wouldnât think about until you need them. Perfect house for a group. House is fully accessible. The host was very accommodating to our needs prior to arrival. After staying at hotels downtown for several years, our group took a chance on accommodations that was farther away from the downtown area and it exceeded our expectations in convenience, pricing and overall experience.
The house was perfect for our group and communication with Edward was amazing! You can tell he is very passionate about the house and takes great care of the house! There is so much history in this house and he is so knowledgeable and willing to share everything he knows about the house! There was even a whole packet that he has been working on that we could read to learn more about the house! This house is huge and fit our group perfectly! Would definitely return again!
We enjoyed a week long family reunion at the Sheldon House. We had 13 people and we really appreciated the spacious living room, dining room and solarium. There was plenty of space for the children to play and for the adults to break off to talk or read. The bedrooms and bedding were very comfortable. While the home is stunning it is also very warm and inviting. Ed was a terrific host . . . checking in, responding quickly and offering recommendations. Nothing but good things to say about the property and the host. Thank you!
Edward was a great host who was so responsive and wanted to make everything perfect. The house is HUGE, and with that there are always going to be little things that break, need updating, etc., but you could tell he really cared and wanted to get as much as possible right for us. Jamestown doesn't have a ton going on, but there were a couple restaurants nearby. Overall, it was a very cool and unique home and the kids could not stop telling everyone we stayed in a mansion. And great for hide and seek! :)
This is a renovated mansion in an older neighborhood in Jamestown. Ed was very attentive and accommodating. The house itself was huge and can handle very large groups. The grounds and landscaping could use some work. It was a very hot week, and there were several AC window units. We were comfortable, though some rooms were very warm. The neighborhood was once grand and now is economically diverse (like most of Jamestown). The property is about ten minutes from Chautauqua Lake, about 15 minutes from Bemus Point. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
We had a very wonderful and memorable stay at the Shelby House. We had a small family group who came together for Thanksgiving and enjoyed the space, the beauty, and the history of the home. My sister and I love to cook and had lots of fun with the Garland Range. The fabulous Butlers Pantry became a source of fun as we explored ways to set our tables and display our food in a special way. And my husband wants a 3 minute Wonder dishwasher like the one there :). The dining room holds the grandeur of the early 1900s making each meal special. The bedrooms and sitting rooms are lovely and you can't forget to explore the Maid's quarters in the attic. Eddie is a gracious host and willing to help in any way. We look forward to a return visit!
We had a large group and this house was perfect for us. The location was a little noisy - corner property and people liked to drive by with their car stereos blaring - but this was just occasionally. The description says there is RV parking, but it took us awhile to find it since the area had a chain across the parking lot. However, after communicating with the owner, it was all straightened out.
The interior is beautiful. We had three elementary children, so we were happy to see the dining area with a stone floor so we didn't have to worry about the children dropping food on the carpet in the dining room. All in all, the property worked well for us.
It is also within in driving distance of many attractions, such as Niagara Fall.
This house was built for a wealthy family and their staff, and it shows in the layout, with several very large bedrooms and a few smaller ones too. The kitchen is tucked away from the rest of the house, but has everything you need for cooking for a crowd. We baked bread, roasts, and at one point had at least 5 of the 10 burners going on the top.
When we arrived, the windchill was -30 and I think it may have been one of the coldest days on record. The lockbox froze but Ed was super supportive in helping us get into the house even though he was out of town himself.
Even with ~100 degree difference between the outside air and that inside, the house stayed warm. We were grateful for its size because the blizzard basically kept us inside for two days and there was still lots to explore.
If youâre looking for a sizeable property to gather a bunch of people, which has lots of character and space, this is an excellent find. And Ed couldnât be more helpful, always ready to make sure we had all we needed.
The only deduction for cleanliness is that I think several of us had our dust allergies kick up a bit. There are so many nooks and crannies that I imagine the cleaners just hadnât gotten around to a deep clean of our room in a while, but this is an issue easily fixed.
This was an amazing house to stay in, beautifully decorated, and has an awesome kitchen that was a delight to cook in! Edward was readily available by phone, and we enjoyed renting from him.
We were in town for a family wedding and needed a gathering place for family. This home met every single need and exceeded expectations. We are also a family of history geeks, so enjoyed a chance to stay at one of Jamestownâs historic grand old homes.
The kitchen and dining spaces were perfectly setup for feeding a crowd. The 10-burner stove was a dream to use! There was also plenty of dishes, etc. (all glass/china).
Edward was very responsive to my many questions. And spent a lot of time with us at checkin and giving a extensive tour. We would definitely rent here again.
Our group was in town for a funeral. We stayed just for the weekend. The home was the perfect place to gather as a group, with ample separate space to sleep and get ready for the various events. Ed was wonderful to work with and things could not have gone more smoothly. I highly recommend Sheldon House as a wo derful place to stay in Jamestown.
We really enjoyed our stay. The mansion is beautiful, well maintained, and very clean. I has a nice and peaceful feel to it. We were in town for a funeral and it was a very relaxing place to be in the middle of a difficult time. The solarium was beautiful and a great place for our family to have a meal. I would highly recommend staying. You will not find anything else like it in the area!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sheldon House. We are a family of 8 adults and 1 infant visiting the area to attend a family wedding. Communication with Ed was fast, easy and he was extremely accommodating. The house was like stepping back into historical grandeur. It was warm, inviting, and soon felt like home. We loved this house! Would definitely stay here again.
The Sheldon house was a great experience! You really feel like you went back in time to another era. Pictures of the place were true to life. We enjoyed the spacious rooms in the interior as well as the outdoor veranda. The host, Edward, was always available! Thanks for sharing your lovely home.
What a fabulous time we had! The property was so cool to explore, so much room and well equipped! No fighting over bathrooms! Jamestown had great restaurants and many places to visit. Lillydale was a short drive and so much fun!
