We had a wonderful stay at the Bird's Nest! It is a clean, comfortable, welcoming home in a beautiful setting. We enjoyed making meals in the kitchen, playing board games in the evening and falling asleep to the sounds of nature Khym is an amazing host! We would definitely stay again.
We stayed at the Birdâs nest for three days. The house is decorated well, feels like home. I really like the scented fresh flower in the bathroom. All rooms are clean with all the appliances we needed. We had great stay there surrounded by the tree frogsâ songs.
We had a lovely stay at the Birdâs Nest! Location was very convenient, communication was great, and we really enjoyed everything the home offered from the well stocked kitchenware for cooking, the relaxing deck, comfortable beds and nice shower/bathroom. Would highly recommend this place for a relaxing stay!
The hosts were very personable, great communication They had everything in the house nicely laid out and anything that you could need there. Great quiet neighborhood close to everything. Best place i have stayed at in a while.
This has been our 2nd stay here and we really enjoyed stay again. House has a very nice layout. Has everything we needed for our visit. Quiet Neighborhood. Great Host, even left a basket of fresh fruit for us upon our arrival. Would definitely recommend this for anyone who needs a place to stay. Thank you so much!
This place is absolutely wonderful. Very clean, nicely decorated, and stocked with everything you might need (including umbrellas and coolers!). Our favorite part was the beautiful porch overlooking the back yard. Itâs a great spot to relax and quietly enjoy the lush greenery.
Would recommend this place and come back any time.
Khymberly's property was just right for us. We liked being raised up on a 2nd floor level. The grounds were wonderful and the wildlife entertaining. Close to the Puna trail to Shipman's beach and other attractions in the area. A relatively short drive to Hilo as well. The beds were comfy, the amenities just right and a wonderful base camp. Recommended!
Beautiful place to stay when visiting Volcanoes National Park
We had a wonderful stay at the Bird's Nest while visiting Volcanoes National Park! This is a clean and comfortable home in a lovely neighborhood. There is easy access to the National Park and to the Hilo airport (about 25 minutes away). We loved falling asleep to the sound of the frogs. The roosters are a little less welcome in the morning, but the host provides earplugs if you need them! The beds are very comfortable and we all slept great. Kitchen is very well-equipped. Excellent communication from the host. Mahalo!
The Bird's Nest is a beautiful home a little distance from Hilo but quite convenient for going up to Volcano National Park. Both places were highlights of our trip. The abundant lizards, frogs and birds on the property delighted my son and husband.
Comfortable stay. Stayed cool inside for the most part, even though no A/C. Sleeping arrangement for 5 people was very comfortable. Felt secluded with the beautiful garden. Much different experience than staying in a hotel, able to hear the frogs all night and the doves in the day time.
We enjoyed our stay at The Birdâs Nest. The property is spacious, clean and well equipped. It was a perfect place to hangout. Check in was easy and the hosts provided a plate of fresh fruit which was much appreciated as our flights to the Island arrived late in the evening. Thereâs so much to explore on the Big Island and it was great to relax here at the end of the day. Highly recommended this property.
The home is clean, nicely decorated, with lots of windows for ventilation. It is quiet with the sound of the coqui frogs at night (this did not keep us up at night) and birds in the morning. We did not hear roosters while here. You really are away from the city life here. The beds and pillows were comfortable. Bedding, towels were clean and adequate. The kitchen was well supplied but we did not cook while there. We chose to eat out for our meals while on vacation. The bathrooms were clean; showers, sinks worked well. There also is a washer/dryer which we did not need to use. The owner is easy to contact and even brought us some fresh fruit as a welcome gift. We were also supplied with fresh coffee beans with a grinder and coffee pot. It is close to markets, drugstores, casual restaurants. It is a good location if you wish to explore Hilo and the Volcano area.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the "Birds Nest". We were serenaded by birds, frogs, and crickets overnight and the occasional rooster in the morning. The home is furnished nicely and is well set up for a small family or 2 couples traveling together. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you might need and they have many staples available for you to use. The grounds are very pretty and the outdoor space is very usable. We would definitely stay here again.
Enjoyed our stay and it was a great location. Had great weather in the month of January. Khym is a great hostess and goes out of her way to answer your questions very quickly. They live next door but give you complete privacy.
Keep the windows closed at night and you donât hear the frogs. Thanks Khym for everything and we wish you and your husband all the best in the future. Aloha
A lovely home with tons of amenities. The only thing I would like to see is furnishings in the bedrooms so one can unpack and get settled in. Presently there are no drawers or shelves in which to put one's things. So I had to live out of my suitcase. The closets are large and shelving in one half would solve the problem.
We loved the Birdâs Nest! It was just as it was listed. The house was well-appointed and very comfortable, especially the beds. We slept well after a long day exploring Volcanoes National Park. Iâd forgotten how lovely it is to wake up to the sounds of nature. If you want peace and quiet that isnât too far from Hilo, this is the place for you. And Khymberly is great to work with. Sheâs responsive and clear in all her communicationsâvery much appreciated. We would stay again.
We had 5 of us; a senior married couple, our granddaughter and her husband and their 1 year old son. The house is beautifully decorated and remarkably well equipped with all the conveniences of modern life. We got great use of the rice cooker and yoga mat for instance. We appreciated the washer and dryer, and the wide porch wrapping around two sides of the house. Khym andJosh stayed in touch through the vrbo portal. They left us a large bowl of fresh tropical fruits when we arrived, which was a great treat for everyone, including the baby. We found their home to be a delightful place to stay when visiting sights in the Hilo Volcano area.
If you are looking for a peaceful place away from the crowds but within easy reach of attractions and shopping, the "Bird's Nest" is the answer. It is clean, comfortable, nicely decorated and well equipped. A beautiful bouquet and fruit from the owner (Khym) welcomed us on our arrival and she was always ready to ensure we enjoyed our stay, always responding quickly. When a rice cooker quit cooking, she immediately brought a new one the following day. There is a chorus of coqui (frogs) in the evening for which you may need ear plugs but, personally, I found the sound beautifully relaxing and not as intrusive as the frog sounds in my area. I would definitely recommend the Bird's Nest.
My family had a nice stay at this property. It was a convenient location for exploring Hilo and Volcanos National Park. Communication with the owner was great. The house has all the things we needed to make our stay comfortable including a stocked kitchen and beach equipment. There were two bedrooms one with a King and one with a queen. Also, an air mattress was available for the TV room. The two bathrooms were convenient for our group one upstairs inside the house and the other outside and downstairs. The house had a ceiling fan in each room and with the windows open it was comfortable for most of our group. The ground were pretty with all of the plants, flowers and birds. The frogs chirped all night, some of us enjoyed that more than others. Overall we had a really nice stay.
I am a fun & loving mother of three sons! Both my husband, Josh & I are currently "empty nesters!" We love to surf, hike, travel & have fun. I make handmade baby blankets, love baking anything sourdough, learning languages, love to cook healthy foods & also help people bring healthy eating habits into their lifestyle.
We bought this property because it was located right next to our home & we wanted to do something special with it. We decided to build the house that sits on it now & turn it into a vacation rental, the "Bird's Nest," so that we could create a relaxing & peaceful living space for guests to stay in & feel a part of the Big Island's community, our community, while traveling. We love meeting people from around the world.
The Bird's Nest is located in a peaceful neighborhood & was built on a second story so it almost feels like your in a tree house. Since clearing the land, we have been slowly trying to bring back some of the native Hawaiian plants & fruit trees onto the property to give it a tropical feel. There are bird songs to be heard during the day & coqui frog chirps to be heard at night.
