Staying in this impressive, stone-built home near the Lake District National Park puts friends and family in a wonderful position to make the most of some of Cumbria’s most memorable landscapes. Begin by exploring the village and settling into the friendly local pub. Walkers will be spoilt for choice, with the beautiful lakes of Loweswater, Crummock Water and Buttermere all within 18 miles. The Georgian market town of Cockermouth (5 miles) is perfect for browsing independent shops, antiques and galleries, before savouring lunch in one of its many cafes or restaurants. Outdoor fun continues at Whinlatter Forest Park (12 miles), where mountain biking trails wind through the trees, alongside a cafe and the adrenaline-filled Go Ape. Visit the Solway Coast National Landscape, known for its rich birdlife and long sandy beaches. Alternatively, Keswick (18.5 miles) is a hub for outdoor activities – try everything from ghyll scrambling and climbing to water sports on Derwentwater.
Before stepping into this historic property, take a moment to admire its unique design, stone-built exterior and the rolling countryside that surrounds you, setting the scene for a memorable stay. Head inside, kick off muddy walking boots in the entrance hallway and, to your left, uncover the impressive lounge flooded with natural light. This space beckons cosy evenings with its roaring wood burner and Smart TV. Across the hallway, the elegant piano/library room offers a peaceful retreat with an inviting egg chair for curling up with a good book. Next door, the spacious country-style kitchen is a joy to spend time in, with a charming breakfast table ideal for morning coffees and planning the day ahead. Find all you need here to cook up Cumbrian feasts, to be enjoyed in the statement dining room with its large table, beautiful Laura Ashley wallpaper, and even a mini pool table and air hockey for a touch of post-dinner fun. Downstairs, the cinema snug is a real highlight, boasting a projector and PS5 games console – a brilliant setting for movie nights or keeping younger guests entertained. Upstairs, you’ll find four generously sized bedrooms, including one super-king-size room and three king-size bedrooms, all designed with comfort in mind.
