Dissapear in the city on a mountain
We came with 3 families: 14 people; 6 adults, 2 pre-teenagers and 6 kids, the house was more then big enough we filled in. Nicely with plenty of room to move around. They have done a good job updating the property. It was very clean, good updates and very spacious. The 3 season room was a great addition to the house especially for the adults in the evening hours. The downstairs bedroom created our privacy from the rest of the house hold which was nice. When people were in their own rooms it was very quiet the noise didnt travel well through the walls and doors. The area was great. Minutes away from downtown north conway, 15 minutes from story land 10 minutes from the outlets, restaurants and shops. We have been in the area before but Lian's property made it more enjoyable this time around. The house had some games the kids utilized including a playstation and an xbox with games, also the foosball and air hockey tables too. There was 2 TVs in each living room which was a great touch and I was glad there wasn't any in the bedrooms. The cribs, pack and play and toddler beds all came into great use which really was a big deciding factor for us when choosing this house for our weekend vacation! Would love to stay here again and even other properties that Lian has to offer....thank you for your hospitality we had a blast!
I traveled with 4 families, 8 adults and 6 children. The house was very accommodating for such a large party. There was a game room downstairs and plenty of space for everyone in the kitchen. When we arrived around 5:45pm the cleaning crew was still at the house cleaning and had a fair amount to clean. Check in was at 4 and the cleaning woman was very apologetic. Although she said she notified Lian that they were running behind, I was never notified. If I was notified, we probably would have adjusted our plans so we would not be in the way. It also took away from the initial excitement of seeing the home. I am not sure if they were rushed, but the cleanliness was not up to par either. There were cob webs and dust hanging from beams and ceiling fans. There were no extra linens, hand towels, or kitchen towels left behind either. We kept using paper towels. The AC unit in the kitchen was not working when we got there so it was very hot in the house. Lian got back to me immediately and we were able to troubleshoot the problem. It did take a while for the AC unit to cool such a large space. The basement room had a musty and mold smell, which made it difficult for families to decide on where to sleep. Overall, my party had a great time despite some of these setbacks.
Great for a big group
We loved the house and the amenities (my kids especially loved the air hockey table downstairs!) but I loved how Lian communicated so well throughout the entire process. I loved how they were upfront about house details and sent information well before our trip so we knew what to expect. During the stay we had a few minor incidents but they were readily available via text.
A lovely house, great for families
We've been staying in North Conway for over 30 years and I can honestly say this is the nicest property we've ever rented.
The pictures don't do it justice. This house is ENORMOUS! It's a workout when you're unpacking and going from one side of the house to the other. The kitchen is beautiful, the living room is perfect for kids and the downstairs room is a lot of fun. My kids are little (3 and 1.5 years old) and they were always safe and had a blast.
My only complaints are about the cleanliness and the AC. When we arrived the housekeepers still had a ton of work to do. They thought our check-in was at 4 but I had multiple emails saying it was 3. They didn't leave until after 4:30 and they left the dishwasher full of dishes, the dryer full of wet towels and the washer machine full of wet sheets. There was a musty smell downstairs, a decent amount of cobwebs and the mat at the bottom of the stairs was wet for our entire stay. We didn't mention the dirtiness to the owner because we didn't really use the downstairs and we didn't care about cobwebs.
The AC had a lot of trouble keeping up with such a big house. And one day we left to go into town (it was about 90 out) and when we came back, every single AC unit was shut off. I called the owner to turn them back on and they came back after a few minutes. But it was very hot in the house for the rest of the day because they were shut off for a few hours. I will say that the week we went was scorching so I'm sure any rental would have had a problem keeping up.
Even with those negatives, this is still easily a 5 star house. It would be perfect for a few families with young kids. We felt a little silly being in such a big house with only myself, my husband and our two kids but it was a fun experience.
I will also add that I left a very sentimental piece of jewelry by accident and the owner was so understanding and wonderful about it that she searched the house herself. She is absolutely the best owner we have ever dealt with.
Adjust your expectations DOWNWARD
Before I begin, I must tell you that this is the first negative review I have ever written on VRBO. I honestly wouldn’t write it at all but I don’t want others to be as disappointed as we were.
After reading all the great reviews on this property, my group of 11 (with kids from 15-29) were definitely looking forward to our stay. As you will notice there are many many glowing reviews. If you take them literally, you will be quite disappointed.
I will start with the positives. The location is a plus. It is carved right out of the woods and is still just an 8 minute drive to town. We loved the pick your own strawberries and farm stand at the end of the road. Echo Lake and Cathedral Ledge were literally minutes away. Inside the house, we enjoyed the large TV and the Netflix. We had movie night most nights. Washer and dryer were quite new and worked great. Kitchen appliances were quite new and worked well.
Now for the issues. The overall condition of the house was generally in a state of disrepair. It just hasn’t been well maintained as you can read below. Why would there be unplanted dead flowers on the patio? Why would there be six inches of dead leaves in the yard? Why are the snow driveway markers still up? Why are rotted pieces of siding not repaired?
As you will see in the pictures, it would appear that much of the property has been renovated. This is simply not so. The pictures are artfully done so as to show the renovation but conveniently leave out the older parts of the home. There were lots of bugs in the house (ants on the counter, a spider in a kitchen drawer, mosquitoes, etc.) The deck was in rough shape and looked like it hadn’t been swept for some time. The musty smell throughout the house was almost unbearable. The grill was in rough shape. Stains on the master bedroom sheets were an unwelcome surprise. There was a hole in the master bedroom door. Bathrooms were not cleaned well (hair on showers and sinks) upon arrival.
I did contact the owner knowing that she couldn’t really fix the above issues during the course of our 4 night stay. I hope this review will prompt some much needed changes.
My advice: stay elsewhere unless changes are made AND substantiated.
Thanks for your feedback.
Nice place to stay with kids!
We had a fun visit to North Conway with our whole family. There was plenty of space and the location was great. Thank you!
