Tucked into the Cumbrian countryside on the edge of the Lake District, Sandy Gap Cottage is a beautifully restored stone cottage offering a genuine rural escape for couples, families and dog lovers. With a quarter-acre garden, gated off-street parking, a crackling log burner and sweeping countryside views, this is the kind of place you arrive at and immediately stop checking your phone.
The Cottage:
Sleeping up to four guests across two bedrooms — a king double and a twin — Sandy Gap has been thoughtfully restored to blend original stone character with modern comfort. Original stone walls and warm lighting give the cottage an authentically Cumbrian feel, while the conservatory dining room is the heart of the home: a sun-filled space wrapped in glass with views out over the garden and surrounding fields, perfect for long breakfasts, evening meals or simply watching the weather roll in over the fells.
The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need for self-catering in comfort. The sitting room centres around a traditional log burner — ideal for cooler evenings after a day on the fells — with comfortable seating, smart TV and WiFi throughout. The full family bathroom is well-appointed with bath and shower.
Perfect for Dogs:
Sandy Gap is genuinely one of the most dog-friendly cottages in the area — not just in name. The gated garden means dogs can roam freely without supervision. Better still, the separate utility room outside includes a dedicated dog wash station with a hose and a second toilet — so muddy paws after a day on the fells are no longer a problem. The utility room also houses a full washing machine and dryer, so you can arrive with muddy kit and leave with clean bags.
The Garden & Outdoor Space:
The quarter-acre garden is a proper outdoor space — not just a token patch of grass. Surrounded by open countryside with views across the fields, it's an ideal spot for morning coffee, alfresco dining or letting the kids and dogs burn off energy. The terrace provides a defined outdoor seating area perfect for evenings when the Cumbrian weather plays ball.
