Location Nr Bergerac ( 15 miles- 30 minutes drive from airport and Bordeaux airport 1 hr approx. ) You can hire a car from the airport no- or pre book on line a hire car from Location E. Leclerc Pineuilh and take a taxi there ( 30 minutes ) which is a lot cheaper. You could take a train from Bergerac and the station is 10 minutes walk from the house in Ste Foy La Grande. We like to take the overnight ferry crossing Portsmouth to St Malo and drive down taking about 7 or 8 hours arriving about 5:00pm. The house is about 100 meters from the river Dordogne.
15 minutes walk to the beach
20 minute drive to Lac de Gurzan water sports.
30 minutes from Lac de Pombonne nr Bergerac.

This beautiful traditional home is situated in a quiet spot in the heart of a small bastide ancient town.
It boasts as holding the largest market in the SW of France selling fresh local produce , les fruits de La mer, cheeses, wine artisan pottery jewellery and clothing. You will fall absolutely in love with the house, the town and the area around. Just relax and become emerged in the French culture of this historical town.

What to do in the town?

Take an historical walk around medieval Ste Foy La Grande using a guide leaflet from the local tourist office, and admire the charm and beauty of these ancient buildings and magnificent church.
Enjoy a glass of wine down by the river, an excellent spot for bird watching and fishing. The beach on the other side is lifeguarded and convenient for swimming, sunbathing and canoeing.
The town also benefits from a theatre and cinema.

Where to eat

The property has the advantage of being close to the square where events such as music and food festivals take place on Thursday evenings in the summer weeks.
There are various restaurants and bars dotted throughout the town.

This old property in the heart of the bastide of Saint-Foy-La-Grande is an ideal base for exploring the Dordogne Region. The host, Rysha, communicated excellently with me. Not only did she provide the necessary information about the property, but she also sent us a wealth of information about the village, the surrounding area, places to visit, things to do, local restaurants and local events. The bathroom and kitchen have everything you could need for the stay, and they even left some starter items in the fridge including a bottle of wine. The beds are large and comfortable, and there is a barbecue in the secluded garden.

Beautiful townhouse

Beautiful, very tastefully furnished townhouse with a small backyard garden. Communication with the host was easy and reliable. We had three very relaxed days, right in the heart of this little town. We can highly recommend the accomodation!

A respite in the Dordogne

We took the house for over a week, with friends joining us for over half that time.From the very beginning Rysha made us feel welcome and responded to any questions we posed. The spacious, gracious spaces lends itself perfectly to a comfortable visit - everything worked well for us, from the well appointed kitchen, and a wonderful shower (with LOTS of towels) to the peaceful garden suitable for a convivial glass of wine or alone time with a book.We LOVED its locations being just around the corner to the huge Saturday market - the largest in the region, as well as the cafes on the square.Clearly the best place we could have found to stay in St Foy-la Grande.convaquietconvivial glass of wine or

Thank you Allan for your wonderful overview of your stay. I am so pleased that you found the house comfortable and well equipped and the courtyard a place in which to relax with a glass of wine after a days sightseeing. Also thank you for your comments about the town. It’s what I call a ‘Proper French’ town with traditional culture some frills and beauty but not a town bedecked with fairy lights and full of hundreds of tourists squashed like sardines in a can! Although the Saturday market and the food wine and music festival every Thursday Eve during July snd August are very buzzy! One can always visit busy touristy places so easily as Sainte Foy is centrally placed and even has a train station! Bordeaux is only an hour away! Well thank you again ! I’m retired and whilst on holiday fell in love with this small historical Bastide town and bought this elegant house so I could immerse myself in the culture of real France. I welcome you to enjoy and share the beauty of this locality in the heart of this major wine growing area of the Dordogne. Enjoy your stay exploring the vineyards and medieval chateaux and of course relaxing sunbathing and swimming. The beach and river are only a few minutes down the road and the lakes of Lac de Gurson 20 minted drive and the lake of Pombonne near Bergerac.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

It has all the advantages of being in a small town which is very French in terms of it being truly local and not overbearing with busy tourism but has its fair share of restaurants and bars. It is in a quiet spot but near the square where entertainment takes place. The house is 2 minted from the river and there is opportunity for sunbathing and swimming.

The house is unique because it has an historical tasteful quality both inside and out and is beautifully furnished in a way that combines the traditional with the new. There are lots of items of curiosity and fun so take a look in our Curiosity Cupboard and see if you can identify them. Although only 2 bedrooms the property is really spacious and it has lovely high ceilings.
