The house is fantastic, clean, spacious, expensively equipped, and much better than we were expecting. M. and Mme. Delmon were lovely, welcoming, and very helpful.
The grounds are really something special. The house is set completely on its own, approached via a long (500m?) driveway, with no near neighbours at all. The gardens surrounding the house were perfect for our three children, what we did not realise was that the garden extends to include a VERY large woodland behind the house. We could actually go for a long walk in the grounds. We built a den in the woods. When we left the house early on Saturday morning, about a mile from the house, a wild boar ran into the road in front of us. Hawks everywhere. Truly amazing.
All this within 5 minutes of beautiful Monpazier, and within an hour of many of the fabulous attractions of the region.
We really enjoyed the Grotte du Grand Roc, a boat trip at Bergerac, Le Bournat, Les Jardins D'Imaginaire, Bergerac Aquapark (small but good for very young children), we were lucky enough to be there during the July Monpazier Medieval Fete, but there seemed to be countless local events throughout the summer.
We didn't find a gem of a restaurant (difficult with three young children anyway) but we had a delicious ice cream at Les 7 Clochers at Belves up the road, and the view was pretty special, too.
We gave up on getting a ticket for Lascaux since we did not realise we would have to queue for hours. I was told it might be easier to come at the end of the day (between 4 and 5pm) and buy one for the following day.
I would definitely recommend this house to anyone looking for a tranquil setting, but near to lots to do.
We wish we had stayed longer!
