Cosy cottage in the Heart of the New Forest

If you are looking for a base in the New Forest to have a family activity holiday, enjoy the great outdoors, or simply take a week away from it all then Rufus Cottage is an ideal location for you.

Rufus Cottage is a beautiful, homely, comfortable cottage in the most convenient spot possible. It is a traditionally constructed railway cottage. Full of character and dating from around 1900. There are two bedrooms, two bathrooms, fully equipped modern kitchen/diner, study, TV lounge and a lovely airy conservatory. Guests have been surprised at how spacious the accommodation is. There are 4 rooms downstairs and whilst each room is small this does give plenty of space to spread out.

Our guests have enjoyed the local activities. Those travelling with children like the proximity to Peppa Pig world, Longdown Dairy Farm and the New Forest Wildlife Centre which are all within a short drive (or cycle ride). Marwell zoo, Beaulieu Motor Museum, Bucklers Hard, Portsmouth historic dockyard and the Titanic museum in Southampton are a little further away. Couples and adults definitely like the proximity of pub and restaurants and direct access into the forest for cycling or walking. Lepe country Park is a lovely piece of beachside land to visit with views onto the Island.

Especially suitable for families and couples who want an option of eating out on your doorstep.

The cottage is one of 4 old railway cottages , set back from Ashurst New Forest Station, so very convenient for public transport. There is parking for two vehicles at the cottage, but if you don't want to bring the car then you can arrive directly by train, with any travel during the week by train, bus, walking or cycle. If you are not bringing your own bike it is easy to have a rental bike delivered to the cottage.

The cottage has broadband with WiFi, a TV and DVD player and CD player/radio.

In addition to being attractive to holiday makers enjoying the new forest we have had a few guests who have business in Southampton. The proximity of the station means you can be in central Southampton in 10 minutes, yet still be in the countryside of the New Forest. This is useful for exhibitions such as Seatrade, the Southampton Boat Show and Cowes Week.
