Giglio Classic is a very welcoming apartment located in the historic district of Santa Maria Novella in Florence. Furnished in a very pleasant classic style, the apartment retains many details typical of period Florentine houses such as terracotta floors and ceilings with exposed wooden beams.
The apartment consists of a double bedroom, a beautiful living area divided between living room and kitch
The place is really cute and perfectly located. A short walk to the train station and easy walks to the sites, the duomo is essentially around the corner.Another reviewer mentioned the noise. I am used to city noises and didn't mind the noise here. It's not particularly that noisy at this location compared to the rest of the city, but any noise you do hear just seemed louder somehow...maybe something to do with stone buildings, cobblestone streets and no trees? All this to say, if you are sensitive to noise when sleeping, you may want to arrive with a noise cancelling plan.We really enjoyed our stay, would do it again.
Great location to explore Florence on foot, washing machine enabled light packing, all in all an excellent place to use as a base to explore Florence and Tuscany.
Apartment had a great Italian vibe. Location was perfect. Bed was comfortable. Owner was very helpful in giving us directions around. Our only complaint was the night traffic was very loud. However, they were reconstructing the building across the street and beside us.
We really liked the location of the property due to how close it was to the train station, the tram, and dining options, but just have to knock off a few stars because of the property's cleanliness (or lack thereof) and the lack of soundproofing (although, that might be expected considering its proximity to the main road).
Some pros include how this place had a laundry machine, which was needed for us after a few weeks of travelling. Fair warning to other guests, you'll just have to hang your laundry on the line outside the bedroom windows since most places in Italy don't have a dryer. Another pro for us was that this place is extremely spacious. Felt like a New York studio apartment with its huge rooms and high ceilings. You also can't beat the location.
One of the biggest con was the lack of cleanliness. Got eaten alive by the mosquitos there and had to buy one of those plug-in mosquito repellants; there were several mold spots in the bathroom; and the dining table cushions looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a while (so much so that we just lifted them and sat on the wood).
Another con is how you'll need to sacrifice a good night's sleep. Because of how close you are to the main road and several restaurants, we could hear conversations happening outside the window and down the street until past 2 am. Cars and carts are constantly rolling by and tour groups are frequently passing under your windows.
Overall, location's great, but at a cost.
A nice large space walking distance to the train station and the major sights in the city. Very helpful and responsive staff regarding check in and making reservation
Having seen the photos when booking, I knew this apartment had charm - but when I walked into it - wow. How fun it would be to live here. Really convenient to everything. It does get a bit loud at night (metal carts being pushed on the cobblestones), and hot showers weren't in the cards for us here (maybe we didn't know how to make it work?). Not a lot of detail from the person that checked us in, and no instructions on checkout expectations (I hope we did okay). All that being said, we really enjoyed our time here.
We arrived during a cold spell in Italy. Apparently the Italian Government turns off the heat as of April 7th.
We did not know this nor was it mentioned anywhere on the page. The property did not provide any additional blankets or a space heater. (As an FYI - everyone on our tour that day had heat.)
1st night we barely slept it was so cold - 42F. There was construction noise and also late night partying noise on a Sunday night. The sofa bed had metal bars. When we turned it back into a sofa noticed blood stains on the mattress.
Messaged the property manager about the heat. They replied it was illegal to turn it on. Asked for more blankets. We never received them. Worked with VRBO to be moved to another property.
Asked for our room tax back for the 2 nights we did not stay and they have refused to return it.
For the check-in I was messaged no less than 3 times about paying an extra for a late check-in.
Their after hours help number is no help. They said we would have to pay a delivery fee for anything they sent over and then take it up with the owner.
The shampoo provided was good for 1 person for 1 day - not for 4 nights and 3 people. When asked about coffee they said they don't provide anything.
This property experience was so different then any other place i have rented. I do not recommend. Had they just provided a heater and blankets we would have stayed.
My husband and I stayed here in October 2023 to celebrate our honeymoon. It was a great location within walking to all major attractions. The neighborhood was very walkable and cute with food and shops around every corner. The host was very communicative and helpful during the entire process. We would recommend this to anybody wanting to explore Florence!
