We had a wonderful stay at Jim's lil red caboose! The attention to detail and time spent in this beautiful train vacation rental was amazing! The views and the scenery around the rental just make it that much better.
Unfortunately, our stay was cut short but we do hope stay here again!
Thank you for your hospitality!
Absolutely wonderful stay in this historic caboose! We selected this property for the local scenery and ended up more than delighted with the accommodations. Jim, our host, has seen to every detail and takes great pride in keeping this unique location in pristine condition. He has attended to every detail which made our stay very comfortable. Highly recommended!
This was a unique and unforgettable stay. The 1929 caboose was very comfortable, affordable and fun. We recommend this to any couple who wants to travel to the mountains and stay in at a unique place.
Awesome little gem. Lots of cool vintage train stuff to look at all over the place. In evening very quit and peaceful. Gives you a really good feel if you were looking to live in a tiny house.
We really enjoyed our stay in the historic caboose. Although small, we had all we needed for a comfortable stay. Jim has thought of everything you need. The separate bathroom was cute and very functional, as well as only a few steps from the back door. If you are looking for an unique experience, this is a must stay!
It's like staying in a one room museum, with a fully modern bathroom off your back porch.
Place is very clean and comfortable. Owner is super responsive and very helpful. Could not think of one thing we would have changed. The lookout area in the top part of the caboose was a memorable spot to sit and look out over the beautiful views! We will be staying again!
Since my husband works in the railroad industry this was a must do. It did not disappoint. So much attention to detail. Host was great and easy to work with. The town is beautiful and charming
Not your usual hum-drum hotel. Why stay in a dreary room when you can stay in a caboose and bathe in a grain silo up in the mountains!? Pleasant outdoor sitting area.
Close to town with good food and lovely drives. Bonus antiquing on the property. Owner super nice and very helpful. He's always around if you need anything.
Can't say enough about the caboose and Jim!
The Caboose was such a great experience. It's beyond cozy and accommodating. I'm not a train enthusiast, but was blown away by all the cool memorabilia that was in it. Main Street is only a 5min drive away. Jim is the best. Great host!! Make sure to check out his shop next door.
Jimâs caboose is so unique. His attention to detail is great. Loved the caboose and the silo bathroom. So much work went into making this property great.
Jim is also great for local recommendations.
Excellent. 5 stars for sure!
We really enjoyed staying in the caboose. Jim was an awesome host. The place was very clean and very unique. It was definitely an experience. You can learn a lot of stuff by just walking in to the place and looking at all the unique stuff on the walls, Jim was very knowledgeable of a lot of things as well and it was awesome Howell they turned a silo into the bathroom. Anything you would need Jim would go out of his way for you. Definitely something everyone should try
At first I was a little hesitant to book the caboose when my husband and I decided to spontaneously take a weekend getaway to the mountains. But my husband loves tiny houses & we both love an adventure, so his enthusiasm for sharing this new experience won me over. Iâm so glad it did! It really was a unique, and cozy experience. I felt totally at home & comfortable! I was concerned about having to go outside to the bathroom, but I absolutely loved it! It added just a little bit of excitement & even more fun to the whole experience.
We can hardly remember all the hotels weâve stayed in before, but we will never forget the caboose in the mountains!!
Thanks Jim! We will be telling all our friends about this magical experience and We shall return!
All Aboard!! ChooChoo!!
This is a magical place.
My wife and I spent the weekend here. This lovingly re-purposed caboose was a perfect weekend getaway for us. The owners obviously love the caboose, and we did too.
Please don't come thinking that this is a mountain vacation cabin at a resort. This is a real caboose, which has been converted so that you can stay in it. A lot of folks think that a caboose carried passengers. A lot of folks are mistaken.
The bathroom is a re-purposed silo, made to look like a water tank for a train. It is outside the caboose.
Having said all that to scare away the lookey-loos:
The owners showed us all the nuances involved in caboose life when we arrived. The caboose had everything we needed for a great weekend of rest. It is beautiful, inside and out. It is almost too comfortable. The space is exactly what is needed for two people.
Now for the magic. You will find items and details tucked away throughout the caboose and tank. Take the time to look, as this has obviously done with care and consideration throughout the property. Make sure you climb the steps and have a seat to overlook the roof of the caboose, as it was intended to be used to monitor the train. The view is tranquil, and worth a cup of coffee or two.
Take a long shower, as the water is warm and soothing against a brisk mountain morning. If the weather is nice, leave the windows open to hear the waters of the stream and waterfall just feet away from the tracks. There is a fire pit and chairs just outside the caboose, if you want to unwind as the sun goes down behind the hills.
You'll find the owners, during the day, in the antique store next door, as they are the proprietors. Jim and Carol were very happy to answer any questions, make recommendations, and to provide directions to any local attractions.
Everything about our weekend was great. Jim was very helpful and put a lot of thought into every aspect of the caboose. We took advantage of almost every amenity provided. Even though it was almost freezing outside, it was very warm in the caboose, and the restroom came with a heater as well. Our favorite part was the breakfast nook. It takes some dexterity to get up there, but the view was beautiful. This is the perfect place for a couple to comfortably enjoy the mountains of North Georgia.
My husband loves trains so I had to bring him here for our 30th anniversary. Jim was the most amazing host and made sure our stay was a special and memorable one. The attention to detail is remarkable. The entire place was immaculate. I was pleasantly surprised to find a microwave and refrigerator provided. The location is great and we so enjoyed shopping in the antique store on the property. We purchased some special items to remember our stay. This was such a fun experience and we look forward to returning in the future. I cannot recommend this beautiful place and host more.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this historic caboose! Itâs so well-appointed throughout with perfectly chosen train-related antiques and all the creature comforts. The silo bathroom is especially coolâso creative, eclectic, and functional. Jim, your wonderful host, set us up with a roaring fire in the fire pit and shared great conversation. We highly recommend this opportunity to stay in a unique piece of history!
Unique in that this is a one-of-a-kind center cupola caboose from 1929. Not another exactly like it anywhere else, and the only caboose in Rabun County. Very cool!
