Casa Boru - a beautiful fully restored spacious house with fantastic views

Casa Boru is a four-floored house set in the pretty, little village of Calice di Cornoviglio in Liguria, just over 20 km inland from La Spezia. The famous Cinque Terre are easily accessible, as are Tuscan beaches. Day trips to locations like Florence, Pisa and Siena are also a possibility.

The house itself was restored about ten years ago to a very high specification, and is decorated tastefully and elegantly. Much of the original stonework is still visible. The living room has a central fireplace and a balcony with uninterrupted dramatic views over the lush foothills of the Apennines.

On the floor below, you will find a truly unique stone walled dining room, and a fully equipped kitchen which even has its own indoor pizza oven and barbeque grill. A door leads out to the terrace, ideal for outdoor dining, and just below is a small garden perfect for relaxing in the Ligurian sun - and from here, you still have the views of the hills (as well as of Calice's own castle!)

The bedrooms are on the top two floors. Two double rooms with wood beamed ceilings share a modern shower room/toilet, and on the top floor under the roof is a large third double room with shower room. Note that this last room is open plan internally and to the rest of the house, but takes its privacy from being the only room on the top floor.

My wife and I live in Ireland, and have recently bought this house for our retirement in a few years. We fell in love with it as soon as we saw it, and I am sure you will too, should you choose to stay. Whether you want to use it as a base for exploration or simply to relax peacefully in the Italian countryside with local restaurants just a short drive (or a reasonable hike) away, Casa Boru is an idyllic spot.

Beautiful, quiet and comfortable

Beautiful and comfortable house on a quiet spot with a magnificent view. Helpful and friendly host. We made some nice walks in the area.

amazing!

The house is located in a village with an incredible view surrounded by mountains. It is built on several levels and has been beautifully restored and tastefully furnished.The proprietor was always acccessible via What's App for information and thanks to him,we visited many things that we would otherwise have missed.The only drawback was the long, hazardous 45 minute drive that was a diversion to the usual more direct route.

I feel that I ought to provide a little more background regarding the temporary road closure for anyone who happens to be reading this review. The regular road up to the village has been closed for the summer due to a rockfall. The authorities are working to secure the road and the hills above it in order to ensure complete safety. The work should be completed by December 2024. As a result of the closure, the only access to the village is by a longer more winding route which adds approximately 45 minutes to the journey. I have advised all guests who have booked the house of this issue as soon as I have received any reservation, and I have always offered free cancellation given the circumstances. The majority of guests have chosen to come to the house regardless and of course they have all been very welcome. However, I did feel it was my duty to ensure that everyone was fully aware of the situation ahead of any booking in the village. I have also when possible (ie if changeover dates have allowed it,) offered an extra free night’s accommodation as a gesture of goodwill to those choosing to stay at Casa Boru despite the circumstances. The guests in this particular review were able to avail of this. Thank you

Thanks for a unique and comfortable stay!

My wife and I were quite pleased and truly enjoyed Christian’s house in Calice al Cornoviglio. The house is well furnished, everything worked as it was supposed to, and everything you need to have a good time is supplied. Especially nice was the “Welcome” gift we received when we arrived and checked in. The view out across the canyon to the hills on the other side is wonderful. And the little (tiny) town of Calice al Cornoviglio was fun and accommodating. One does have to be able to navigate stairs. The kitchen and dining room are on the lower level, with a walk out to a balcony and steps down to a lovely patio and lawn. The living room and library/tv room are on the main floor, and all the bedrooms are on the two floors above that. You just need to be prepared to go up and down a few times every day. Fortunately toilets are on three of the four levels. : ) Christian has done an incredible job of preparing notes and suggestions for his guests. He was also very responsive and quickly replied to the few questions we had about the region. If you’re looking for a comfortable place to relax and let the world take care of itself for a few days, this property is certainly worth considering.

Superbe maison italienne dans les collines

Mon mari, ma fille et moi-même avons passé de très bonnes vacances dans cette magnifique maison située dans un petit village typique de Ligurie. Notre chien était également de la partie et il a pu profiter du petit jardin clôturé. La vue depuis la maison est magnifique. Le propriétaire est toujours disponible pour aider en cas de besoin. Nous reviendrons très certainement.

Un superbe sejour

Nous avons passé un très bon sejour à la Casa Boru, située dans le petit village de Calice aux portes des cinque terre à 40 minutes de la Spezia. Après une journée sur la côte quelle joie de se retrouver dans un petit havre de paix devant des collines boisées et des chèvres et un sanglier (qui passe de temps en temps dans un champ à côté de la maison) en guise de voisins. Merci à Christian pour son accueil et sa disponibilité.

Ligurien pur

Du willst ein echtes Urlaubserlebnis ohne die anderen Touristen? Dann bist du hier genau richtig. Schon beim Aufwachen und dem ersten Blick aus dem Fenster stellt sich ein herrliches Gefühl ein, weil man weiß, dass man hier Ligurien pur erleben wird, selbst wenn man nur zu Hause bleibt. Dank Google-Übersetzer ist auch die Kommunikation mit den Einheimischen, die alle sehr nett und hilfsbereit sind, kein Problem. Und Christian, der Gastgeber, sorgt mit seinen zahlreichen Details und Informationen dafür, dass man sich rund um wohl fühlt. Ich kann nur sagen: Vielen Dank für dieses unvergessliche Urlaubserlebnis!

Ruheoase in traumhafter Lage im Grünen

Wir hatten eine wundervoll erholsame Zeit in Casa Bora! Besonders den Ausblick und die Ruhe auf der Terrasse haben wir jeden Tag bei bestem Wetter sehr genossen. Die Ausstattung ist prima, es ist alles da. Bei schlechtem Wetter hätte man die Heizung im Esszimmer gebraucht, die hat jedoch nicht funktioniert. Der Vermieter war jedoch sofort zu erreichen und hätte sich bei Bedarf kümmern können. Die Kontaktperson vor Ort spricht nur italienisch, der Vermieter ist aber jederzeit per WhatsApp zu erreichen und bietet Hilfe bei der Übersetzung an. Für Ruhe- und Erholungssuchende ist die Lage traumhaft, es ist jedoch etwas abgelegen und nur über eine enge, steile Bergstraße zu erreichen. Die Bewohner des Ortes sind sehr freundlich, das Haus und der gesamte Ort haben eine tolle Atmosphäre, das macht die etwas beschwerliche Anfahrt aber auf jedem Fall wett! Jederzeit wieder gern! Danke an den Vermieter Christian für die gute Kommunikation!

Erholsamer Urlaub in wunderbarer Umgebung

Bereits vor unserer Ankunft hat alles perfekt geklappt. Wir wurden vom Eigentümer Christian nach unserer kurzfristigen Buchung schnell und umfangreich informiert. Er hat auch auf Fragen immer sehr schnell reagiert und ist sehr daran interessiert, dass man eine gute Zeit hat. Vor Ort wurden wir von Barbara auf eine sehr sympathische Art und Weise betreut. Obwohl sie nur Italienisch spricht, was wir nicht beherrschen, konnten wir uns gut verständigen. Das Haus und die Küche sind bestens ausgestattet. Die Aussicht auf die Hänge Liguriens und das Castello sind einfach atemberaubend. Die Einrichtung des Hauses gibt einem das Gefühl in einem Schloss zu wohnen. Alles ist sehr stilvoll und sauber. Die Betten waren zudem sehr bequem. Als grossgewachsene Person (grösser als 190cm) muss man ab und zu den Kopf etwas einziehen. Der Ort ist klein und die (meist älteren) Menschen sehr nett. Besonders genossen haben wir die Ruhe der Umgebung. Calice ist ziemlich abgelegen und man muss sich dessen bewusst sein. Wenn man nicht selber kochen möchte, muss man für fast alle Restaurants oder um einzukaufen ins Auto sitzen. Die Tipps von Christian für das Erkunden der Umgebung sind sehr hilfreich. Das Highlight war das Abendessen im Castello. Wir wurden dort von Oxana und Cosimo auf eine Art und Weise bewirtet, wie wir das noch selten erlebt haben. Sie haben des Restaurant extra für uns geöffnet und uns kulinarisch mit vier Gängen und eigenem Wein verwöhnt.

Die Kommunikation im Vorfeld verlief schon einwandfrei und sehr freundlich, schnelle und ausführliche Antworten. Das Haus selbst lässt keine Wünsche offen, es ist alles vorhanden und wir haben uns sehr über das Willkommenspaket gefreut. Wer es ruhig mag und längere Fahrten mit dem Auto nicht scheut ist hier genau richtig. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt!

Gemütliches Haus

Wir waren im Winter und das Wetter war nicht so gut. Aber das tolle Haus glich alles aus. Es war im ganzen Haus warm und gemütlich. Die grosse Küche liess keine Wünsche offen, von der Espressomaschine bis zur Spülmaschine war alles da. Das Highlight ist das Esszimmer mit Gewölbe und grosser Tafel und das gemütliche Wohnzimmer mit 3 Sofas, offenem Kamin und Pelletofen. Direkt gegenüber ist eine kleine und gemütliche Bar. Als Ausgangspunkt für tolle MTB Touren und Wanderungen ist das Haus perfekt.

gepflegter Turm im mittelalterlichen Stil

Mit insgesamt 4 1/2 Etagen bietet das Objekt mehr als genug Platz für 6 Personen. Auf der Terasse scheint den ganzen Tag über Sonne. Dazu gibt es ausreichen Liegestühle und eine schattige Fläche unter einer Kiwi-Pflanze. Die Küche ist gut sehr gut ausgestattet und einer der absoluten Highlights ist der Indoor-Pizza-Steinofen. Durch die dicken Wände aus Stein war es im Haus auch im Hochsommer nicht zu warm. Das gesamte Haus befindet sich in einem frisch renovierten Zustand und ist sehr gepflegt. Der Kontakt zu den Vermietern und der Managering vor Ort war durchweg sympathisch und reibungslos.
