Stylish Scottish, book-filled getaway with beautiful walks
With the old world country charm of a log burning stove, and a huge four poster bed, Barns Cottage is in a beautiful courtyard, with it's own garden and a step away from fabulous walks in every direction. Barns Library has a huge library of interesting books covering history, fiction, art, travel and much more. The four poster bed is particularly sumptuous and unwinding in a deep bubble bath has to be the best way to relax after a long bracing walk through the beautiful countryside.
We stayed in The Barns Library for 5 nights. Everything about the accommodation and location is superb. We enjoyed it so much that we have booked again, but this time to stay in The Tower.
Whether you want a nice romantic time with a four poster bed and a wood burner, and/or walks in the woods, this place is perfect. We cannot recommend it highly enough
Fantastic short stay to celebrate our son's wedding.
Wonderful weekend. The Library was a great choice for us to stay. Loved the location. The cottage was immaculately clean and fully equipped with everything needed for our stay!
Having previously stayed in Barns Tower we already knew the high level of comfort offered by the team but were still surprised by how luxurious yet homely Barns Library felt. Lovely walks, drives, good facilities in Peebles town (coffee shops, bakeries, supermarkets etc) we had a ball and hope to get back as soon as possible
Stunning property, decorated beautifully, well equipped and thoughtfully designed. Spotlessly clean, couldnât have been better for our dog with the charming arboretum literally on our doorstep. We immediately relaxed, enjoying the peaceful and spectacular location, perhaps remote for some but we were well prepared and enjoyed our walks into Peebles and the surrounding area. Will definitely book again. Thank you.
We loved the Barn Library, wonderful location, super furnishings and wood burner, beautiful outlook, comfy beds and glorious bed linen, fabulous bath tub and shower! Just a pity we only stayed one night.
Great location, beautifully designed and furnished accommodation, shame about the building work
The Barns Library has been beautifully designed and furnished and is in a perfect location to explore the Tweed Valley. It's reasonably well equipped and is basically clean but would benefit from deep spring clean to get rid of all of the cobwebs and maintain a high standard. Unfortunately for us there was building work taking place throughout our stay. The Barns Library and the courtyard is also a key working part of the Neidpath Estate and so we were woken up by 7:30am, (8:20am on bank holiday Monday) either by the building contractors or people working on the estate (strimmers etc). Not quite the peaceful holiday, catching up on our sleep that we had hoped for. In summary, great location but should be better for the price.
Yet another lovely stay in the Borders. Cottage as lovely as ever with all facilities. Enjoyed amazing sunny weather so could relax in the peaceful garden. Excellent stay for us and very dog friendly as enjoyed the nearby walled garden for evening dog walks.
Staying at Barns Library during our friendsâ wedding weekend at Neidpath Castle was an absolute treat. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the peaceful surroundings, the charm of the building, and the sense that we were staying somewhere truly special.
The space itself was full of character. With walls lined with old books, beautiful wooden details, and unique vintage furnishings, it felt like a cozy literary hideaway. Every corner held a little charm, and we found ourselves completely relaxed in its quiet, welcoming atmosphere. At the same time, the amenities were incredibly comfortable and up to date. The bed was plush, the kitchen had everything we needed, and the bathroom was clean and modern. It was the perfect mix of old and new.
Waking up to the views of the countryside each morning and enjoying coffee outside surrounded by nature was a highlight. Barns Library is only a short, scenic drive to Neidpath Castle, which made it ideal for joining in all the wedding festivities while also having a peaceful place to unwind at the end of the day.
This isnât just a place to sleep, itâs an experience. We feel so lucky to have stayed here and will absolutely treasure the memories made in such a unique and beautiful place.
Barns Library is an excellent choice for a relaxing stay, in beautiful surroundings. The cottage forms part of a former agricultural estate courtyard and has been imaginatively converted, It was warm and cosy even during a January snowstorm. It was a joy to sit in front of the wood burner stove with a plentiful supply of logs and a great choice of DVDs and books from the bookshelves. The galley kitchen is well appointed with everything one needs. The team at Niedpath were very helpful and gave clear instructions as to how to get to the Library by car. I wish our stay could have been longer.
The accommodation was extremely cosy. Lovely inside and very clean. Well equipped kitchen and the welcome pack was excellent. Beds very comfortable. Good location for Peebles. All in all a very enjoyable stay with good communication throughout booking process We would like to return.
Cosy, beautifully furnished cottage with real character. Lovely / dining area and peaceful estate and surroundings in general.
Very comfortable bedrooms.
We had some issues with hot water which apparently we should have been informed of.
We have a few comments too, about kitchen items and the parking situation in relation to people who live and work on the estate. I will send a separate email to the admin office.
Very comfortable and spotless property, with many original features and nice little touches, like some complementary materials left to prepare your first breakfast. Great shower and "easy to keep going" fireplace. Good layout for a family of four. Plenty of books to choose from to keep you entertained if the weather gets you grounded. Parking right at your front door in the courtyard makes offloading and loading super easy even on a rainy day. Walled garden is only a short stroll away from your back door to safely let your dogs off lead on a ball chase. Quiet location, yet still very close to Peebles.
We had a second fabulous stay at Barns Library.
There are just two things I would highlight. The lighting does really need to be checked as the wall light over the bookshelf is still not working and in such a dark environment it is essential and also atmospheric.
The duvet in the master bedroom should have been laundered some time ago. It is not a pleasure to strip a bed and note that one has been sleeping under a duvet that cleanliness is not of the highest standard.
We had the most wonderful stay at Barns library
Everything was perfect and comfortable
We enjoyed our seven nights stay very much and the surrounding grounds and area are beautiful
We shall return very soon
Delightful roomy cottage with eclectic selection of books and DVDs. Comfy beds including impressive 4 poster. Welcome pack of breakfast ingredients much appreciated. Beautiful surroundings not far from Peebles.
Ideal setting in terms of views and walks - the Borders is a scenic and often missed part of Scotland, it was perfect for a us on a much needed short break
The accommodation was comfortable, warm and cosy with plenty of logs for the fire.
Just a few areas of improvement:-
The rug in the sitting/dining room has a very large tear and I was constantly tripping over it - needs to be replaced !
The road into the property is full of potholes and there was an enormous pool of water at the entrance to the courtyard, where the property is situated. All could be remedied with a filling of hardcore. We had a 4x4 so we managed okay,
We had a fabulous tour of the castle and the lady was very informative
We did enjoy our stay but we wonât return because we like to visit different places
We had a wonderful stay in the Barns Library. It is a magical place; cosy, beautiful surroundings and lovely furnishings. The staff are welcoming and accommodating. It was perfect for making you feel relaxed which is no mean feat with a young dog and baby! It is also very well equipped if you want to cook. We would 100% recommend it to others and would certainly stay again if we travel up to Scotland. Thank you!

I love to renovate old buildings and make them available for guests to enjoy. Scotland is a beautiful country, and our corner of it in the Scottish Borders, is unspoilt and a haven worth discovering.
Barns Library has an enormous collection of interesting books for you to browse, whilst cosied up in front of the log burning stove. Otherwise, the surrounding countryside is wonderful to explore on foot. The beds are comfortable and the vibe is relaxed and stylish.
