We really enjoyed our stay at Chesnut Cottage ! Very cosy, warm, welcoming little house ! Thank you for welcoming us and our dog !
The Arniston Estate is lovely, very calm. A nice place for walks. Very dark at night, we had the chance to see plenty of stars when the sky was clear enough.
The fireplace with everything needed and the bathtube were the cherry on top !
Easy to access from Edinburgh airport. The train station of Gorebridge is also a big plus. 25min by train and you're in the town center of Edinburgh !
Little detail: we struggled a bit with the electric plate. It takes too long to cook with it. It could be nice to have an induction plate instead :)
Chestnut cottage feels like a home from home, it is a comfortable cottage, with everything needed for an enjoyable stay. The location is spectacular, near enough to Edinburgh to enjoy the city, but in stunning countryside with plenty of walks including the beautiful grounds of Arniston Estate, as well as easy access to the Southern Uplands, walks along the Tweed or mountain biking at Glentress and Innerleithen. The owners are super helpful, and the dogs and pigs adorable, our dog quickly made friends with all of them!
Lovely clean, warm and cosy cottage. Check in was easy and everything as described.
Nice quiet location with the city centre 25-30 mins away.
Thank you for a great weekend away.
We spent a few very nice days here exploring Scotland. The proximity to Edinburgh is fantastic, but a trip to the Highlands is also easily possible. The cottage is small but nice and the fireplace in particular offers a lot of coziness. The kitchen is very well equipped and the location is very quiet overall. Thank you for the great time!
Everything was so wonderful and perfect. It was everything that we had dreamed our stay in Scotland would be. Henrietta was so kind and helpful, she even recommended a lovely place to eat and shop! The grounds of the estate were beautiful and amazing to explore. We will definitely be returning to the estate in the future
Lovely warm house in a beautiful setting. Could do with a bit of updating. For example, the toaster didnât work and the beds and pillows were quite lumpy. On the whole though, we had a wonderful time and would go back.
A lovely cottage in a quiet location. Very comfortable and well equipped. Plenty to do in the area, or just enjoy the tranquility at the cottage. Henrietta was welcoming and the information we received before and during out stay was very helpful.
Highly recommend
We very much enjoyed our stay at Chestnut Cottage. It was a wonderful spot to see some of the local treasures like Cairnpapple, Rosslyn Chapel and Edinburgh.
My husband and I had such an incredible time in this beautiful cottage! We wished weâd stayed longer and could explore more locally! The house itself was absolutely stunning, and conversations with Henrietta were so lovely and personable. We were absolutely delighted when we walked in and discovered all the lovely nuances and details. Highly recommend!!
We needed a place to stay for a few days since we were having work done in our house, and found this amazing place while searching on Google. The cottage is lovely! Everything was above and beyond our expectations!
The estate surrounding the cottage is wonderful, peaceful and beautiful.
Despite the weather was not great we really enjoyed spending time indoors.
The cottage has Everything you need to make you feel like being home.
5 stars
The description and photos of the cottage made it appear quite charming but it was actually very ordinary. Our stay was ok, it had what we needed. We made use of a park and ride and rode the bus into Edinburgh which was convenient.
Cute warm and cosy with a working fireplace! Lovely walks in the area and driving distance to historical sites. The place was quite clean for a pet friendly stay but there were was a few pee stains from previous doggos.
Had a thoroughly relaxing break, Henrietta extremely helpful. Our only fault if there is one is that the microwave and oven were dated, particularly the microwave, and the property would benefit from a smart tv. Comfortable beds, we all slept well and delicious eggs! Thank you.
We had a very nice first visit to this part of Scotland - to visit family who have downsized! We were really glad that we found and could afford such a nice place to stay. Everything was great - really comfortable, felt like the setting for a Catherine Cookson novel! The fire was hard to keep alight with just wood - I assume this is because in the old days this fire was used for coal? But there were some lovely blankets in the downstairs (twin) bedroom that we put to good use when the heating went off (weâre night owls!). Tiny TV but the kitchen was really well equipped - even had a hand whisk!

Vous ĂȘtes reçu par Henrietta Dundas
My family, The Dundas family, have owned and lived at Arniston for 450 years. We very much enjoy welcoming visitors to the estate to experience the timeless beauty of our home. The current mansion house was built by William Adam in 1726 and many of our cottage visitors enjoy the guided tours which run from May to mid September. We are so fortunate to live in the country yet we have Edinburgh with all its attractions just a short train ride away.
The stunning setting for our properties is always remarked on. Arniston is a designated designed landscape with many ancient broadleaf trees and wonderful woodlands to explore with pets. We have the best of both worlds as the buzz of our capital city, Edinburgh with all its attractions is a 25 minute train ride away.
