Villa Tau: Beautifully appointed, spacious villa set in Ubud's iconic ricefields

Tranquil Villa Tau is a beautifully appointed 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom colonial-style villa set just 6km north of central Ubud, in the heart of the iconic rice fields of Kenderan, perfectly positioned for your Ubud stay.

Like to take a walk in the rice fields? They're just outside the door. Explore a traditional Balinese village? It's a 3 minute walk away. Want your Instagram moment under a beautiful waterfall? Drive three minutes up the road or walk for 15 minutes through beautiful scenery and you're there. And that's just near the villa. Monkey Forest, Ubud restaurants and shops, and plenty of other sites are all about 15 minutes drive from Villa Tau.

Our villa capacity is 8 people (excluding two children on mattresses which takes it to 10 people) but our base rate is for 6 people. We then charge per person for the seventh and eighth person. There is a travelling cot available for infants and small children at no extra charge. Children 4 and under stay free.

After a hard day's sightseeing, or just lounging at the pool, our staff is on hand to serve you cocktails, cook your dinner and generally release you from all the chores that can turn your holiday into hard work - no cleaning, cooking or washing the dishes at Villa Tau is required.

We've taken great care to furnish the villa in an eclectic mix of contemporary design and carefully selected Balinese antiques. We have aimed for a stylish yet relaxed feel conducive to a laid-back holiday. We've sourced the most comfortable mattresses, high quality linen and towels, and sofas made for relaxing.

The villa is large, spacious and spread out over three separate pavilions. Close enough to each other that everyone can be together in the amazing entertainment area in the main house, but far enough apart that all members of your party can have their own space and privacy when they want it.

The main house has large, spacious rooms. The living area on the lower level is open-plan with comfortable sofas and chairs, a dining room with a large table seating 8 people, and a large entertainment area, which includes a pool table, TV and relaxed seating.

This level opens up via big folding doors to the outside undercover patio at the pool. Here additional comfy chairs and an extra dining area allows you to make the most of the wonderful weather, lush garden and beautiful views.

Loungers at the pool are available for you to relax in the sun. Seamless indoor/outdoor living doesn’t get better than this.

There is a guest toilet on this level, as well as a dedicated coffee station room with an honesty bar for all kinds of beverages. Villa Tau is not a self-catering villa - our staff will serve you delicious breakfasts and other meals from the spacious and well-equipped kitchen.

Bedrooms
All four of the of the roomy, light-filled bedrooms are fitted with king-size beds (the beds in the two upstairs rooms in the main house can convert into twin beds). Each bedroom has air conditioning and all bed linen is pure cotton. Ample cupboard space, and a safe, is provided in every bedroom, each of which has outdoor seating where you can relax in private.

Joglo Suite
The Joglo master suite is the piéce de resistance of Villa Tau. A joglo is a wooden frame building individually built from solid teak, using only joinery. Each joglo is unique, with the carving style and structural details being decided by the craftsman.

The joglo at Villa Tau is a magnificent example of Javanese craftsmanship and artistry. It is at the bottom of the garden, slightly away from the main house, and is therefore very private. It faces directly on to the rice fields with sweeping views across the paddies. There is a wide, private undercover patio with Balinese day beds so you can curl up with a book to enjoy the silence and the view.

In keeping with the history of the main structure, the romantic 100m² Joglo suite has a solid teak super-king extra-length four-poster bed, overhung by a mosquito net.
The outdoor but covered private en-suite bathroom has two basins, a bath and a shower.

Dragonfly Bedroom
This spacious upstairs bedroom in the main villa has an extra-length, super-king bed with a top-quality mattress. It can be converted into two twin beds if necessary. Big windows bring in the rice field view, and wide doors open up onto the massive upstairs balcony with its own outdoor seating.

It has a separate dressing room, and the private outdoor covered bathroom has two showers, double basins and rice field views!

Butterfly Bedroom
The Butterfly bedroom is next to the Dragonfly bedroom, and also has an extra-length, super-king bed with a top-quality mattress. It too can be converted into twin beds if necessary. The room has big doors and windows to let in the light and the rice field views, and has access to the same upstairs balcony with its own outdoor seating.

This bedroom has a very large bathroom with a bath, a shower and double basins, also with great views.

Firefly Bedroom
The Firefly bedroom is a cottage in the garden and is therefore quite private. It has a king-size, extra-length solid teak 4-poster bed with a romantic mosquito net, and an en-suite bathroom with double basins and an outside shower. The wraparound undercover patio, bordered by a pretty fish pond, has seating for you to enjoy the peace of the garden and the surrounding rice field scenery.

Staff
No need to lift a finger while staying at Villa Tau! Our staff of six are there to ensure that your holiday is as stress-free, hassle-free and relaxed as it should be, while affording you privacy at all times.

The Balinese are well known in the international hotel trade for their exemplary levels of ‘intuitive service’, and the staff at Villa Tau is no exception. Our team will happily organise – among other things – transport, excursions, restaurant bookings and spa treatments.

• Our cooks are in charge of your daily complimentary breakfast, and will provide any other meals you would like off our à la carte menu, or want to have prepared

Food and beverages
A complimentary breakfast from our breakfast menu is provided throughout your stay. Food is such an interesting, and delicious, part of a Balinese holiday that we offer a simple, reasonably priced, à la carte menu of Balinese and international cuisine which is prepared by our staff.

Villa Tau does not offer self-catering, although the staff are more than happy to show you how they prepare the traditional Balinese dishes that we offer.

Our beverage list, for your account, includes both non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. Tea and coffee is complimentary, as is bottled water from the water dispenser. Safe ice is always used.

In addition we will endeavour to accommodate any dietary requirements or additional beverages which are not on our menu, where possible.

Children
Children are very welcome at Villa Tau but care needs to be taken with mobile babies and toddlers, or children who cannot yet swim, as there is an unprotected swimming pool.

Spa services
No Balinese holiday is complete without a spa treatment or two! We provide well-priced in-house treatments which can be arranged with the staff or, alternatively, our staff will be happy to book treatments for you at surrounding spas – many of which provide a complimentary pick-up service from the villa.
