Expensive cockroaches in Florence
The stay was one of the worst we have experienced in decades of traveling. With the additional city tax of 5.5 Euros per person per night the already expensive nightly cost which was far above what was shown on the Vrbo site initially, we felt ripped off. It was my fault that I did not look at the receipt I got from Vrbo carefully to compare the advertised cost compared to the cost that was to be charged. When we contacted Vrbo to ask about the breakdown ( what was the cleaning cost?) Vrbo said we had to get that information from the host. So we contacted the host and they refused to tell us! Worst of all the place was dirty. The place must have been grand at some point but now the bathrooms had lots of mold in the edges and cracks.I think the foyer area may have been an outdoor area and its floor was constructed with outdoor pebbles that stuck up from the concrete with dirt in between. Then we found lots of cockroaches running around at night - on both nights! It felt like we were endangering ourselves but we felt stuck. The doors that lead into the garden were pretty but flimsy and we could not bolt one of the shutters so we felt in danger of unwanted people coming in. The garden smelled lovely compared to the moldy smell of the apartment but there were too many mosquitoes. There was a lack of good ventilation. We did appreciate the person who met us and that they let us drop of our bags.
