This was our overnight stop while traveling between Switzerland and Italy. Wish we could have stayed one more day to visit the area. Lovely home and very conducive for our needs.
The house is a charming Italian villa with a beautiful view of the lake and mountains from the back patio. Communication was especially difficult and i didnt have information i needed to plan my trip. Navigation to the house was difficult for someone not familiar with the area and the "directions" given when asked for were brief and non descript. The directions given were also extremely more difficult than the way we discovered for ourselves afterwards...we had to push our luggage uphill on a very narrow, curvy hill when we could have used the streets and stayed off the road. It also appeared that there was a bus stop at the top of the hill that we coukd have been let off at to avoid all of that. But, it was beautiful and we walked down to the water for dinner.
With my adult kids we spent 3 days and two nights at Giuseppes house. Its tricky to find but worth it. Great views from the patio and some of the windows to the lake. Nice pizzeria near by as well as a cute cafe for coffees, pastry and gelato. We had a great time amd Giuseppe was a great host and very communicative and responsive. The lake was beautiful.
Not as tidy or clean as the pictures. Host was very helpful and responsive. Appreciated that there was free parking in a garage not too far from the house.
Giuseppe went above and beyond to help us find the property and park our car in the garage (located nearby) on the night we arrived. We were so tired after a long international flight and he met us within minutes. Grazie mille, Giuseppe!
The stay was a good one away as the appt. is a boat ride from busy Como. The ferry was at the bottom of the hill and was an easy trip back and forth to Como. The appt was nice with small porch and views of the lake. Nice kitchen and living room.
The bathroom needs a tub update as its old and not easy to get into. We only had 2 towels available and no soap or shampoo. I suggest additional towels, wash cloths and accessories are made available.
Overall, a great stay in a beautiful area.
Make sure to book a tour on the lake and up to Bellagio and Varenna area.
Centrally located on Lake Como closest to the town of Comi, it was walking distance to a nice little village. Unfortunately, walking to that village didnât seem that safe. It was very hot and the unit is not air-conditioned. The fans were NOT adequate. It was sticky and uncomfortable. The owner said there was a Cross-breeze, but there Wasnât. The grape vines on the back patio were cool. Yes, you could see the lake from the master bedroom, .that was it. There was no breeze coming off the lake. It was like a sauna in there. There was no soap and the bathtub and shower setup was tricky to navigate.
I overpaid the city tax and the owner owed me 20 euro back but claimed it would cost him twice that to put it in the mail, which was a flat out lie. Due to his lack of communication And misrepresentation of his property And his lack of integrity, I would not rent here again. Itâs not the money, itâs the principle.
What we loved is that Torno is not too far from Como. You will need to take the bus to get there as the torno water taxi is closed right now but to be honest, the bus is better if you have luggage. Take route to house that goes behind tobacco shop, it will be easier yo navigate. There is a wonderful restaurant not far with one of the prettiest views on the lake. The service is full waited and a wonderful experience.
You will want to buy bus tickets same day to get there and another to get back to Como. Check bus schedule for times. Getting around the lake takes some planning on your part. Recommend renting a boat tour.
The owner is responsive with your needs. You will need to have your own bath wash.
Nice property, lovely hillside location in a quiet town
Torno offered us a quiet place to stay while we enjoyed Lake Como. Amazing lake views from one bedroom & the bathroom.
The trickiest part for us was locating the garage space since itâs on the main road a bit down from the walkway which leads up to the actual property. GPS did not work well for us, but with the pictures from Giuseppe, we finally figured it out. We drove the car up to a small parking lot 2 doors down from the house to drop off the luggage and get the keys (need one for the garage). Then drove back down to the garage with the key. Did the reverse for check out. The road in front of the house is VERY narrow.
Thereâs a great take-away pizza place 2 minutes from the house and a few cute restaurants down by the lake. The dock for the ferry to Bellagio and other parts of the lake was a 7 minute walk down the hill. Easy to buy tickets at the dock (buy a round trip ticket so you donât have to wait in the crazy lines at Como or Bellagio).
It was very warm during our visit, but thankfully it cooled off during the night so open windows let us enjoy the view and get a breeze. It was a little difficult to keep the second bedroom shutters open at night because of the neighborhood lights, but we needed them open for the air flow. Owner provided fans, which were lifesavers.
We LOVED this place! First of all, the location is perfect. A very quick walk to a cafe, a gelateria, and a little food store, and not much further down the hill is the port where the restaurants are as well. Second, this place just oozes charm! Every bit as lovely as the photos suggest--maybe even more so. Third, everything was very, very comfortable (including the beds, which I was very happy about), and it was terrific having a washing machine. Finally, the views were just amazing--out one of the bedroom windows, out the bathroom window, and from the terrace (which isn't huge but is a nice little space, and is covered by a grape arbor with the most delicious grapes ever on it). I was there with my sister but it would have been a very nice place for a family (not much room to run around, but ample space for multiple people) and would be a perfect place for a romantic getaway. If I'm ever lucky enough to return to Torno, I'd be delighted to stay there again.
Note: the parking is not on site, but is down the road a bit, so you might want to drop your luggage off before parking. Though the streets are so narrow... I'd honestly recommend not renting a car at all.
