The Botanist Rest – Charming Victorian Cottage with Sea Views in Ventnor
Dating back to the 1840s, The Botanist Rest is a beautifully restored Victorian flint cottage in Ventnor, Isle of Wight, tucked away on a peaceful side street in one of the island’s most sought-after coastal towns. Known as the “English Mediterranean”, Ventnor enjoys a unique microclimate thanks to its sheltered position beneath St Boniface Down, home to the world-famous Ventnor Botanical Gardens — the inspiration behind this unique and stylish retreat.
Blending historic Victorian charm with elegant botanical interiors, The Botanist Rest offers the perfect Isle of Wight holiday cottage for couples, families, or anyone seeking a relaxing coastal getaway in Ventnor. From the moment you step inside, the botanical theme flows throughout the property, extending all the way to the beautiful private kitchen garden, where guests can enjoy fresh herbs and seasonal produce during their stay.
Lounge & Living Space
Step into the cosy lounge and discover a charming Victorian botanical retreat, thoughtfully styled with plants, books, and unique curiosities. The comfortable seating area includes a luxurious leather Chesterfield sofa and armchair, offering space for up to four guests to relax after a day exploring the Isle of Wight beaches, countryside, and attractions.
Guests can enjoy full use of the Bang & Olufsen Smart TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime, perfect for cosy evenings in. For those balancing work with relaxation, or feeling inspired by the island surroundings, there is also a dedicated workspace/writer’s nook.
If you’d like to fully embrace the botanical experience, feel free to care for the cottage plants during your stay — a little mindful watering is always appreciated!

The garden is fully enclosed and illuminated in the evenings, creating a magical setting to relax among grapevines and fruit trees after sunset. A cocktail-making set, herbs, spices, and a recipe book are also provided for guests wishing to enjoy a drink under the stars.
Bedrooms & Sea View Balcony
Please note: as a charming Victorian cottage, the staircase is narrower and steeper than a modern staircase, which may be unsuitable for guests with limited mobility.

The spacious principal bedroom enjoys beautiful views of St Boniface Down and features a comfortable king-size bed, vanity area with mirror and hairdryer, hanging space, and freshly laundered towels and bedding. There is also room for a travel cot if required.
Second Bedroom
The second bedroom features a full-sized bunk bed, suitable for children or up to two medium-build adults, along with hanging space, a mirror, and fresh towels and bedding.

Bathroom
The upstairs bathroom includes a shower over bath, a heated towel rail, sink, mirror, and a toilet.
