Shaven Cottage is a beautifully refurbished luxury Cotswold holiday cottage near Burford which sleeps 8+2 guests (see Finer Details), in four well-appointed bedrooms, with the +2 option being a double sofa bed, with three spacious bathrooms. On the ground floor you have a stylish open plan kitchen/dining room which leads out into the split level garden, boasting plenty of outdoor seating and a fire pit, a space to enjoy all year round. Indoors there are three cosy living rooms and lovely features including exposed stone, original beams, inglenook fireplaces and three wood burners. Shaven Cottage is a dog friendly holiday home, suitable for two medium sized dogs, and also has a hot tub! Unfortunately Hen, Stag and other same sex groups are not permitted at Shaven Cottage

A lovely cottage in a lovely village.

This is a very well presented cottage in the heart of the Cotswolds and we truly had a fantastic weekend. We visited with a group of friends to celebrate a 60th birthday and we couldn't have been happier with the standard of the accommodation and how it was presented. The cottage was cleaned to a high standard and was presented very well. The kitchen is very well equipped, better than our own homes, and everything was in working order. All the bedrooms are lovely and friends all stated how comfortable they were. We did use the hot tub on a couple of occasions and it was a great addition for us to get together at the end of our walks. The new property managers, Clive and Carlie were extremely helpful and on the end of telephone all weekend if we needed them, which we didn't, but reassuring to know we could call them at any time. All in all, a lovely, cozy and comfortable cottage that we would highly recommend if you are looking for a break with friends or family.

A few days of complete bliss in the Cotswolds

After my husband’s operation, we fancied a few days away to relax and unwind. Having stayed in many cottages across Cornwall and Norfolk, we always look for somewhere that is dog-friendly, relaxing, and stylish and this place truly had it all. The cottage is absolutely stunning, with a layout that works beautifully. We’ll definitely be booking again, this time with our older family, as the hot tub is a real bonus for us. The interior has been thoughtfully designed and, coming from an interior design background, I can honestly say it’s the most luxurious place we’ve ever stayed in. Everything we needed was provided. We even became quite good at setting the fire, and the TV room was especially cosy in the evenings. The local area is very pretty, with lovely villages and towns to explore. For food lovers, we’d highly recommend The Kingham Plough and The Old Butchers. We also visited Broadway for the first time and absolutely loved it. I would most definitely recommend this cottage for a short break with family of any age. It’s a truly special place, with a charming, homely feel that makes you instantly relax.

Lovely area

The house was in a lovely area. The local pubs were great - The Hare, The Lamb Inn. Great coffee shop at Rise & Flour. The house was clean, lovely decor and really homely. Kitchen had everything you need. The only one slight negative is no downstairs toilet but otherwise it was totally perfect. Really recommend.

Lovely location - even on a main road it was quiet. Loved the hot tub and the standard of beds/linen etc.. Only criticism is we couldn't find a larger cafetiere - only a 2 person one. Otherwise lovely thank you.

Stunning house and stay

What a fabulous holiday house, we had the best time in this comfortable home and we enjoyed all the facilities that the house had to offer, very well equipped kitchen with plenty of space for our large family. Would definitely recommend for a family or friends getaway home. Loved it and will definitely be going back one day.

We had a fantastic stay in Shaven Cottage. The period cottage has been sensitively upgraded and fitted with all mod cons. A very comfortable place to stay and the location is great and ideal for exploring the Cotswolds.

Family stay over Christmas

Beautiful cottage, well furnished, good layout to cater for 3 generations of a family. Good area for walks. Garden and hot tub lovely. In need of a good clean and de cluttering - hard to find anywhere to actually put a glass down or use the bedside table due to oversize lamps etc. Supposedly decorated for Christmas - 2 cheap plastic collapsible Xmas trees is hardly in keeping with the cottage, the lights didn’t even have working batteries. I’d specifically checked about Xmas decorations otherwise we would have brought our own, luckily Amazon to the rescue. If we’re paying a premium for the Xmas period I expect some effort towards Xmas decorations. The bedroom on its own was always freezing. The constant traffic outside the front bedrooms is noisy. Communication before arrival was very poor ( we are regularly property renters and I would say it’s the worst I’ve experienced), it was either wait until 3 weeks before arrival, don’t know or questions not answered, but very clear on what we couldn’t do. I think we left it cleaner and tidier than we found it having got the hoover working, cleaned and organised the kitchen cupboards and drawers and washed the floors.

We had a great week at Shaven cottage. It's very comfortable, with high quality furnishings. Very conveniently situated to explore the Cotswolds. Had everything we needed for an enjoyable family get-together. (Parking restricted though, we parked across the road most of the time)

Perfect for a weekend getaway

Beautiful property with plenty of space so the family could spread out. Bedrooms were very comfortable and the facilities were very good. Location was great with two pubs within walking distance which was perfect. Parking is very tight but we parked in the road opposite without any difficulty. Highly recommend

Good family short break

We were 6 adults and 3 children celebrating a 70th birthday. The cottage was very suitable for us and the hot tub was used a lot. The layout is really good with plenty of room. The fourth bedroom is quite tight when the (uncomfortable) sofa is up. No parking really as on a main road but this did not cause a problem as the pub was happy to take two cars. All in all a great stay.

Cotswold gem for family get-together

Beautiful and well appointed cottage in the lovely village of Shipton under Wychwood. Perfect for family get-together to celebrate a big birthday. Our dogs too were very welcomed including a luxurious dog bed! Bedrooms are all excellent with very comfy beds. The outside space is fabulous and although we visited in November, we could imagine the bifold doors open to the patio with its fire pit, outside table and hot tub. Ideal for walking in the Cotswolds or visiting the cute villages. Loads of good pubs around: we would recommend The Lamb Inn in Shipton, The Hare at Milton, and the Royal Oak in Burford (especially for the pies!).

Charming Cottage Stay - Boutique Quality at a Great Price

We’ve always stayed with Boutique Retreats when traveling in the UK, and this cottage is on par with them at a fraction of the price. Although there were only three of us and a small dog, we found it useful to close off the entrance sitting room and the bedroom with the nook. Despite being on a busy junction, we hardly noticed any traffic noise. Unfortunately, we couldn’t fit our Range Rover in the driveway—it’s quite tight—but we were able to park out front to unload and then found a space on the little green opposite the road, where there was always availability. Once inside, the cottage did not disappoint. Just like the photos, it was beautifully presented, warm, and thoughtfully designed. The beds were really comfy, and we mainly used the little sitting room to watch TV. The barn-style door in the utility room lets in a draft, so we’d recommend keeping it shut. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need for cooking and plenty of options to choose from. The microwave doesn’t work properly, but hey, we made popcorn on the hob instead! The location is perfect, with a lovely walk just up the road—a 10-minute stroll to Wychwood Wild Park. We initially missed it, but to find it, head past Shipton Court (an incredible sight on your left), continue along the road, and you’ll see the gates on the right.

Family stay in October half term

We had a lovely stay at Shaven Cottage. Very comfortable and very well appointed and in a fabulous location and I would definitely stay there again. A couple of things though which could be improved upon. I did try to get hold of the property manager by messenger and email to ask various questions before our stay but no one responded which was frustrating. One of the questions was about the quantity of wood provided for the wood burning stoves as I knew we would be using them. There are three stoves and should have been enough logs for each to get going according to the blurb but there were in fact only three logs which actually looked like they’d already been partly used. This is a premium property and as such it would be a good idea and probably wouldn’t cost a great deal for there to be a supply of logs in a store to the rear of the property. This would be great for people staying over the winter months and save traipsing to the garage especially if you were without a car like us. Apart from that a fabulous cottage.

Beautiful cottage and lovely location; a few minor issues but we would return

Shaven Cottage is a really lovely property. It’s a great size and in a village with a couple of lovely pubs to eat in. The decoration and quality of accommodation was great and the property inside was very clean and well maintained. The three lounges were a nice bonus as the children had their own games room/lounging room. It’s well located and close to plenty of other Cotswolds villages and attractions. It’s a shame the pub next door wasn’t serving food at all while we were there as it looked lovely! Parking is up the side of the house and behind a large gate which is good, but it’s quite a narrow driveway if you have a big car. The outside space was nice - the lawn area hadn’t been mowed which made clearing up after the dogs trickier, but presumably this would be in the summer. One small disappointment was that the hot tub area hadn’t been cleaned since the previous use and there was food on the floor around it. Having reported this, a company arrived to clean the following day however. We thought the standard of accommodation was good value for money, however it was a shame that when we asked for the starter logs we were told that we weren’t entitled to them as it was now April. The website noted logs would be provided October to April but evidently they mean October through March. A small detail but for the cost of the property, ambiguous wording on the website and the fact that the hot tub area hadn’t been cleaned, a few logs as a gesture would have been appreciated. No welcome hamper either which was a surprise for a high quality property like this (although some milk was provided and a few biscuits). Perhaps we have just been spoilt in previous properties however. These are minor things however, and overall it was lovely: we would recommend this property and would return, but I think some extra touches would make it 5/5 value for money and customer service.

A gorgeous cottage stay

We visited shaven cottage with a group of friends for my birthday. The cottage was spotless, modern and had a great outside area. This is the perfect place for large families or groups of friends to rent. Very easy to get to surrounding areas by car. Would definitely recommend!

Lovely cottage and location for a much needed family holiday

We booked the cottage for our long overdue holiday with our children and their partners to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Shaven cottage is a beautiful property, very well equipped in a great location. When we arrived Storm Eunice was in full force and we had no power and no heating until mid morning the following day. The owners only leave 2 logs for the wood burner, despite there being a full log store outside so this didn’t help. Also there were no candles available as a back up. We were disappointed to not receive any communication at all to check we were okay. We did call the property managers who were clearly stretched and pointed us in the direction of a Sainsburys 6 miles away to buy candles and a garage en route that sold logs. I think the owners certainly need to reconsider the log policy. The narrow drive is an issue and you need to be brave to use it, but more importantly I think guests with young children /pets need to be aware that the cottage front door opens onto a busy road so care is needed when leaving the property. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would return and hope our feedback is helpful to improve the stay for future guests.

Family Christmas 2022

A fabulous family Christmas, spent in a cosy home , in a beautiful part of the world. Three wood burning stoves, excellent, a must for any Christmas house. It did take a little convincing though, as to how Father Christmas got down the chimney. We were 7 adults and three children under 5 , Shaven cottage worked very well for us . Good size rooms , nicely decorated, plenty of space for all to eat , play or disappear for a quiet moment. The Swan only a short walk away where we had an excellent Christmas Eve lunch.The little local park with the zip wire also proved very popular with the little ones and big ones ! As was the hot tub every morning and evening for 7 days. We had a few minor issues during our stay that were taken on board and very quickly sorted out by Chris and Daniel. Especially after we had left , Chris went beyond the call of duty searching out and retrieving several items, we inevitably left behind. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We definitely would like to go back to Shaven cottage, if they will have us that is. Thank you for helping us to make more,Happy family memories .

A beautiful cottage for a relaxing week with the family. Great location and lovely walks just on the doorstep. Will definitely be visiting again.

Very Nice Stay

We had a very nice and relaxing stay in Shaven Cottage which was beautiful and also wonderfully clean and warm and cosy. Driveway is a little bit tight but fine once you're in! Good location and close to a super pub. Thanks for all help and assistance.
