With a large double bedroom and a twin bedroom this is a family favourite. Most notably is the simple yet effective living, dining and kitchen layout. With sets of large double doors leading to a spacious enclosed decking area with a private hot tub.

Terrible experience

The holiday started with a mistake in booking from the company side. I found out on the day that there has been a mistake and the cottage I have booked is not available. The company was nice to make arrangements for another cottage close by. On arrival we noticed the cottage is not clean and you could easily notice the dust every where. The oven's condition was terrible. We could not even open the the oven because of the the smell which was horrible. The hot tub water was also not clean and I think the chlorine was not added. The second day the boiler stopped working and for the whole day we did not have hot water. The heating system also stopped working during the night. I called the maintenance but they could not help as a proper engineer needed to attend which happened an hour before we leave. Although the area was nice but our experience with the booking and the cottage was terrible. We were hoping to have a relaxing end of year holiday but things were opposite!

Would stay again.

Great location if you want something in the middle of nowhere, which is what we wanted. Only downfall is the amount of bugs and spiders in and around the lodge because of the location. Lovely lodge and hot tub and was perfect for a well needed break... difficult to cook with no sharps or scissors and its the only lodge with a hot tub we have been to that doesnt have people coming round everyday to clean the hot tubs. Was ok because we was only there for 2 nights but any longer then the tub would have needed cleaning. We will return again. Thank you

This is definitely is overrated. Incredibly disappointing.

This is now my third attempt to submit this review which does not reference cost!!!!! The holiday home is essentially a plastic shed! Trimmings were not finished off with kick boards falling off on our feet every time we opened the dishwasher and kitchen cupboards with no bottom shelf fitted so pots and pans etc. were sitting directly on the cabin floor. Single beds were not even full size in width. Virtually no room to actually move around any of the beds. Mattresses so soft we have all come away with back pain. Definitely not beds for 6 and accommodating only 4 people. Living space so cramped it literally was a table with sofas to sit on to eat - accessibility to the table was horrendous requiring people to climb over the arm of a sofa to sit down. Jacuzzi was not cleaned for the whole week so had green water and slime on the sides by the end of the week. Smart TV’s were installed but there was no WiFi so were essentially useless. Barmston itself has absolutely nothing there. The pub attached to the overly described ‘retreat’ was disgusting, dirty and essentially a working men’s social club. Absolutely horrendous sitting down to a dirty table at the best of times but also disturbing when living during a pandemic. Utterly disappointing. Would never recommend this place other than to advise others to never stay there and a reminder as to why we would never normally holiday in the U.K.

An interesting stay

After an easy but interesting drive down to Lincoln from Leeds and down a very long quirky road we arrived at the white horse inn and our lodge for the next 3 days. It was a bit confusing at first as to where and how we check in but after greeting a very friendly gentleman he pointed us in the director of another really friendly lady who showed us down to our lodge. The lodge was beautifully presented with enough car parking space for 2 cars and a hot tub situation just in front on some grass. Our first impressions were good. However we did have a few problems on our stay, we were not informed that it was completely self catering and so we didn’t buy the essentials such as washing up liquid or toilet paper and only 1 was supplied but with a lodge full of 6 people and 3 of those being children you soon run out. The other issue we had was we didn’t have a microwave it was in the oven but we’re not provided with any instructions on how to use the oven/microwave and we’re not informed of anything that was near by I.e shops and with very poor connection and no WiFi this became a bit of an issue as the nearest shop was 25 minutes away from the lodge. Another issue was that the lodge became full of flies at the night time and I mean full! There are only 2 bedrooms and 1 sofa bed but what I found was that the sofa bed didn’t not have a mattress on it rather just a sheet placed over it which proved for a very uncomfortable night sleep, although an upside was that we were provided with a fresh quilt and pillows! Not that this made the sleep any more comfortable so the second night I had to sleep in the sofa as a sofa not a bed! If your planning to eat out you will struggle as there is nowhere local to go. We were told that the pub would be open to serve drinks not food but when we went up we couldn’t find how to get in and couldn’t find any staff. The hot tub was great it was clean and ready when we arrived and staff were there to help on the first night, the only downside to our lodge was that to get to the hot tub you had to walk over the stones! So take slippers or shoes because you will hurt your feet! And maybe request some more toilet paper and instructions or you will struggle.Oh and the TVs have Netflix but it doesn’t work because you have no wifi and no phone signal to connect it. But other than that we had a great holiday and would look at booking again next year now knowing what we need to do next time.

Lovely lodge in a great location.

Booked a family holiday to the east coast via the Vrbo app. Decided on the lodges at Black Bull Retreat Barmston and we were not disappointed. The lodge we were given was brand new and we must have been one of the first to stay there - a lot of the kitchen facilities didn't look like they had been used before. The lodge was very modern, clean and a decent size. The family absolutely loved the hot tub to relax in after a busy day. The pub does serve meals but unfortunately they were without a chef for our stay. Staff are really friendly and Barmston beach is between a 5 - 10 mins walk away and only a 10 mins drive from Bridlington South Beach Park and ride. A great spot. One word of warning though. When booking through the Vrbo app, our booking was somehow changed to the White Horse in Lincolnshire. Fortunately we spotted this and made sure the booking was corrected.

1 week stay at the Black Bull Retreat

In a word "AMAZING"!!! spent a week with my wife & 3 kids (8yrs 5 yrs & 3yrs) & all us absolutely loved it. Beautiful, fully modernised & clean lodge with a nice hot tub to match. The place is managed by Andy & Michelle, these guys are warm, friendly, very very very accommodating & lovely people. Every interaction i had with all the retreat staff from Ian (maintenance manager) to the cleaners was brilliant, everyone at the Black Bull Retreat are wonderful, thank you for making our stay a memorable one which we thoroughly enjoyed. I would recommend the Black Bull Retreat 110%, Andy thank you again for being a fabulous host.

We were booked in to the wrong place!

We booked the lodge Black Bull pub near Bridlington. Which was confirmed via mail with a booking ref no. We headed there with 3 children under 5 which took approx. 2 hours 30 mins. To be informed there had been a booking error and we were booked at the White horse at Lincoln!!! Which was another 2 hours away. We then arrived at 9 pm in the evening. I am looking for some sort of compensation here, either in cash or another booking. The children really took the impact of nearly 5 hours in the car. I would like some one to contact me
