Location, location, location! One of the best examples of a 1 bedroom property in York we've seen. Set right on High Petergate you can almost reach out and touch York Minster and you couldn't be better placed for anything you could possibly wish to see or do in York.
Converted from the old Monkey Puzzle jewellery shop, the property has undergone a full transformation whilst keeping some fascinating original features and making for a real quirky weekend hideaway.
On entering the property from the private door on street you walk into the open plan lounge kitchen and dining space. You will be immediately struck by the attention to detail in the furnishing and the striking features of the building including the original remnants of the brick fireplace and beam. The kitchen is hidden behind what appear to be fitted cupboards but open up to reveal a well stocked space with everything you'll need for your break.
The downstairs area also houses the bathroom with a large walk in shower.
There's great opportunity for people watching and taking in the comings and goings of the city from either the window downstairs or in the bedroom window upstairs where you can relax with a coffee and watch the world go by. The bedroom also has a king size bed and wall mounted TV.
A really unique property that offers something just a little bit different. Don't miss it!
The property is ideally situated with a fantastic view of the Minster. The furnishings are comfortable, clean and modern and the shower is excellent.
The only suggestions we have are that the property would benefit from a second TV downstairs and that while it was easy to use the hob and combined microwave/oven/grill it was extremely difficult to wash up as there is nowhere to drain crockery, pans etc.
The location is excellent, the queen bed wonderfully comfortable and the compact kitchen is well set up for a short stay. That being said the windows are covered with a heavy acrylic sheet to cut noise but render the window inoperable. At 21c the upstairs bedroom was stifling! A young man from Stays York rescued us with a second fan. Also be aware the header on the bathroom door is about 5â5â so itâs a âduck or grouseâ for anyone taller.
The location was just perfect for getting the most out of our stay. Honestly couldnât have wished for better. Information provided by Stays York beforehand was super helpful, very reassuring and everything included was correct.
The house is charming and very well equipped. We found everything we needed was provided.
Couple of things to be aware of - the wine bar next door is noisy and disturbed our sleep every night. Sound proofing isnât great. Possibly to be expected in older properties?
Also, lighting isnât ideal for applying make up. Iâd recommend taking a travel mirror with you.
I loved the responsiveness and consideration of the property owner upon running into some travel issues, and needed the accommodation for an additional night. The property itself was well suited for a solo traveller, such as myself, with a personal bathroom, seating area, and kitchenette. Additionally, there are excellent food options within the vicinity of the establishment. The bells of York Minster right outside the apartment were beautiful to hear on Sunday.
On another note, I believe York is experiencing some issues with adequate heating for its residents. While the radiators within the apartment were adjustable, on their highest they still proved insufficient to warm the space. I made use of the mobile radiator provided on the second floor to warm my fingers while I slept, but the rest of my body felt immobilised from the cold. My only remedy was an electric blanket that my sister who lives in York, provided me during my stay. My advise for travellers is to be prepared with additional warm clothing and heated blankets if you are to visit York during the colder seasons.
We had a very relaxing break at 19 High Petergate, the attention to detail within the property was excellent. Everything was of a very high standard. The location of the property was great as it meant we could walk everywhere with ease.
Quirky but well thought out property in center of York.
Stay spoilt by no hot water and no heating. Calls and text to support number not returned. Internet TV didn't work. Staff in office unresponsive.
I chose this accommodation because of its location which is right next to York Minister also the apartment looked lovely and it was!!
I would definitely recommend. there are at present 3 pubs which are open in this part of High Petergate which is handy but all the shops are so close by so a brilliant location
