Bruno's Wine House

Located near the Cais de Gaia (Gaia’s wharf), a stone throw away from the World of Wine Museum, and right in a cluster of port wine cellars, Bruno’s Wine House is two bedroom apartment with enough berths for six offers an immersive experience in the culture of Portuguese wine and age-old traditions of the region.

This apartment was renovated in August of 2020 and includes two bedrooms complete with a balcony and plenty of natural light, a living room with a kitchenette, and a beautiful garden (shared with the other apartments in the condominium), perfect for enjoying breakfast outside, reading a book, or even having a barbecue (barbecue, garden chairs and table are all provided).

In this ideal spot right by the River Douro, guests can walk down to the Cais de Gaia and then on to the Ribeira (Downtown Porto) and the old town, where they can visit the city ́s most iconic monuments.

With enough space for six people, this apartment comes equipped with modern furniture and comfortable beds. Dispõe de duas casas de banho com duche, uma cozinha totalmente equipada (com forno, micro-ondas, placa de indução, máquina de lavar loiça, torradeira, maquina de café, entre outros) e uma lavandaria (com máquina de lavar e secar roupa, ferro de engomar).

Air conditioning and satellite television is available in the living room and in both bedrooms, along with Wi-Fi internet access throughout the whole apartment. All guests are provided with high quality bed sheets and towels.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND TRADITIONS

Cais de Gaia, in Vila Nova de Gaia, is a street (or perhaps a borough) located on the south bank of the Douro River, where Port Wine cellars are located. Here we can find several “footprints” of Port Wine history and discover the Culture of this Region.

In past times, Rabelo Boats would berth on the banks of the river, to unload wine barrels from wineries in the Douro Region. The wine was then aged and stored in these cellars for 10, 20 or even 50 years, to acquire its distinctive characteristics. Today this area of the city provides visitors with a journey through the history of Portuguese wine:

– The traditional rabelo boats, now restored, perform tours on the Douro River;

– Port Wine Cellars organize guided tours, wine tastings and even Fado shows and other events;

– The recently opened WOW (World of Wine) Museum is also a showcase of the history of this region, through different experiences.

Besides the historical importance of this area of the city, the boarding pier for the cruises is located here, as well as the Cable Car station that “flies over” the city until Jardim do Morro, next to the upper deck of D. Luís Bridge (that allows for pedestrian and Light Rail transit, between Gaia and Porto).

Overlooking Ribeira do Porto, Cais de Gaia was the recipient of the Tourism Award – Added Value to a Public Space, and has several esplanades, bars and restaurants.
