even the entrance is impressive. long path climbing to the hill where the property is nestled. amazing position overlooking Carrara and Massa port far from it's noise. then you enter the building full of history on every step. Ideally place to relax and still on the reach of Versilia beaches, marble caves and Apuan Alps. We simply enjoyed it.
Tons of old world charm. Beautiful renovation with plenty of local marble. Lots of space and privacy. We enjoyed the pool almost every day. Communication with property management was effortless throughout. Susanna and Kerstin were always available and a great source of information about attractions and restaurants.
The location is ideal for day trips to Cinque Terre, Pisa, Lucca, Florence, and much more. A rental car is needed to access the property by way of a perfectly safe private road that is steep and narrow with switchbacks. An all-wheel drive vehicle would be a good choice. The reward is expansive views to the sea.
For Google Maps users, watch out if it gives directions for Via Romito on the other side of the property. The only access by car is Via Perla.
The views were stunning and Suzanna was a perfect host. She showed us around the property, helped us navigate the streets of Carrara, and really made us feel at home. The town is small but charming and it was great to escape to a private house in the hills. The driveway up to the house looked intimidating on the map, but we didn't have any trouble with it and it built anticipation for the views and the house itself every time we went up it. There's lots to see and do in the area.
The convent is a perfect blend of charming historical features and modern comforts. The beds are large and comfortable, every bedroom has an ensuite, and the kitchen had all the supplies you need to cook a fabulous meal. The marble throughout the house is stunning, and it felt like we found new interesting features every day. The gardens have lots of seating and tables for relaxing (not to mention the most gorgeous pool in Tuscany), but don't miss out on the gardens full of olive trees, cherries, limes, and apples.
It's truly a magical property and we can't wait to come back!
