This was a cozy spot in old town, clean and neat. We walked to the Sao Jorge castle, Commercial Plaza, Time Out market, Delerium Cafe and many more. The #28 tram can be picked up a short walk away. Great, convenient stay!
Great little apartment close to many sights fabulous Portuguese/Italian restaurant very close
The hosts Miguel and Sophie left us some lovely treats to welcome us. Probably the only downside was the bathroom straight off the kitchen/ lounge. The famous tram 28 only 5 minutes walk away. Would definitely recommend this quirky apartment
We were mostly using the space as a sleep and shower space, which with two people it was a perfect spot for that. Getting in and moving around in the space is tight. While we were there there was a smell from the sink, the host offered to come check it out. I will also say it was difficult to maintain the correct temperature in the space as a fan and plug in heater were provided. There was uncharacteristically a lot of rain when we stay which was hypothesized by the host for the smell as well as maybe why the temperature varies so much.
If youâre looking for the Portuguese charm and people it is not apparent in this neighborhood - it is more like Bangladesh or India- thereâs some decent restaurants nearby but not Portuguese.
The place itself was damp and smelled of mildew. View from the main âterraceâ was a building and not street viewâŠ.and if youâre leaving your window open at night you WILL NOT sleep. Way too noisy.
On the plus side we did get into the place early, before check in time, which was great after a long flight and owner seemed very nice in correspondence via WhatsApp. As well was walking distance to some of the sights but all this didnât make up for actual apartment.
The property is quirky, steep steps up to the door but once you're in it's really quite nice. The wardrobe is an old suitcase on its side with an added rail, and the drawers are also an old suitcase.
The area looks rough but it's ok. There was no trouble whilst we were there. If you keep out of their bisiness, they'll keep out of yours. The location is great, close to the metro and the square behind Hotel Mundial is the start of the tourist area which is lovely.
You can wander around and always find something new around the next corner or at the end of the street. It is very, very hilly though with steep roads and lots of steps.
The host did not give us any details on how to access the property before we arrived. He knew we would be there around 11.30 pm and I messaged him once we were in Martim Moniz but I received no reply. We arrived at the property but Miguel was not there, I called him but there was no answer. I contacted VRBO and they could not contact him either. They said I would receive a call to find us alternative accommodation as it was past midnight by this time but I did not get the call. We were wondering around trying to find a hotel that had 24hr reception and also had availability. We found one in the end but it cost us 196 euros, not a great start to our holiday.
Just make sure that you receive access details before you go. We did get access details the day after from Miguel so all is good apart from being 196 euros down.
