Our family canât say enough good things about the cabin and the property. It was everything we hoped it would be and then some. Looking forward to staying again in the future!
If you want to get away this place is it. Beautiful cabin by the lake. We loved the seclusion and quietness of it all. There was a sense of serenity, peace, and quiet. Loved the esthetic of the cabin with all it New England charm.
I'd like to thank the owner(s) for the opportunity to stay at such a beautiful, quite and very clean place in the woods of an untouched land of Maine.
We will be back!
The cabin we stayed in was comfortable, well stocked with supplies, and clean. There is a beautiful stone fireplace that was great to just relax in front of during one night when it was chilly and raining. Pictures can never do the lakefront justice. Water is clear and you can spend hours there looking at the view or just watching the aquatic animals swim around, which is exactly what my 8 and 6 year old did. We also spent one night star gazing on the beach.
The owners are lovely people and excellent hosts. Their dog Beau is also very welcoming and showed our Labrador all around. It truly is a private piece of Maine heaven.
Itâs hard to imagine a vacation rental near Acadia Ntl Park that would make you NOT want to go into the park⊠but this is it. From the private beach, crystal clear lake and cozy cabin, you wonât want to leave. Loved that our fur-baby was welcome, and he had the time of his life running around with new friend Bo! đ¶ Thank you Andrew for allowing us access to such a beautiful, untouched piece of heaven. Itâs a rare find.
My husband and I had an incredible experience staying at this special cottage. We didnât expect it to be one of the most memorable parts of our trip. The location and set up provided a peaceful oasis after long days exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor. The cottage met all of our needs to include providing a perfect haven for our dogs.
We loved the accommodations, the location and the people. We had very few neighbors and the uniqueness of the place made for pleasant and fun interactions when we did run into each other. Andrew was a great host who gave us a deeper appreciation for the history behind the beauty that surrounded us.
We look forward to our future return to this magical place!
Our stay at Andrew's cottage was delightful. We spent a few nights here while on our honeymoon roadtrip through Maine. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed to cook dinners and have a relaxing trip! We visited Acadia as a day trip (~1 hr drive), but we actually enjoyed our time on Spring River Lake and hiking near the cottage more than Acadia! Nothing beats having morning coffee on a private beach, kayaking at sunset, or hiking Black Mountain and jumping in Schoodic Beach to cool off :) Did I mention star gazing from the beach is incredible?! This cottage is perfect if you enjoy nature and value privacy and solace.
Andrew provided excellent directions on how to get there (the driveway is easy to miss!) and many suggestions of activities and hikes to do in the area. The property manager was so friendly and attentive to our needs (including an after hours phone call). We definitely recommend a stay at Andrew's place- you can't go wrong!
We loved this location as it was out in the woods yet close enough for us to travel to local areas to see the great scenes of Maine. Very relaxing sitting out in the beach watching the sunset!!! We will be back!
Upon arriving we traveled through an almost untouched forest with just enough space for our vehicle. It was a magical moment. We have never felt in the forest more than here. The water and beach were spectacular. Water crystal clear, clean sandy beach, coves of rocks that make you feel so small. Our dogs had a blast and are exhausted from the hiking on the property. We kayaked and ate some great food. Bob the caretaker was a pleasure to talk to and work with.
Informational only: There is no TV, washer or dryer. Arrive before dark and follow the instructions from the owner. Print the instructions out because you will loose service closer to the cabin. iPhone texts go through great at the cabin. Wifi is super fast.
After wandering around Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor during our days it was relaxing and rejuvenating to return to the peaceful solitude of the cabin in the woods.
Our 3 night visit to Andrew's cabin on Spring River Lake was great. The house was very clean and situated well on the lake near the beach. The kayaks came in handy and there are some awesome trails close by. It was nice to stay in a remote place before we made our trip into all the hustle - bustle of Bar Harbor.
Our stay was wonderful in this very comfortable, well appointed cabin and the clear warm lake and surrounding easy hiking trails. There is so much to see and do that a full week stay is necessary! You can spend days just exploring the lake with the provided canoe and kayaks and just down the road there are a number of hikes that have spectacular views and are much less crowded than AcadiaNP, but that is only a 45 minute drive - so easy to spend a few days exploring there also. We always try to travel with our canine family member - and we all very much appreciated the privacy of the area and the easy access to the lake so she could have her vacation too! The owner and caretaker are very easy to reach and communicate with and are friendly and accommodating. We certainly hope to return again.
Wonderful vacation for a family who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle. The lake is absolutely stunning-crystal clear, warm, large enough to explore all day in a kayak, but with a large sandy beach where you can spend the day rolling in and out of the water.
Our cabin was clean and well appointed. As dog lovers we appreciated that our dog was able to have as great a trip as us!
Andrew and family ( including canine member, Bo) were wonderful hosts. An easy drive to Acadia NP/ Bar Harbor, which we did visit, but truth be told we found ourselves longing to be back at the lake.
A truly special spot to reconnect, rejuvenate, and enjoy nature. Weâll be back.
Also, lots of hammocks!
My family and I had a wonderful week staying here. Place was very clean and had everything you need. Owner was super nice and helpful. Very remote, so note the directions that the owner gives you! About 45 mins to Acadia, which is fabulous to explore. Highly recommend, planning on returning with more family someday!
We spent our mornings on the deck lingering over our coffee. We filled our days with vigorous hikes and fun in the lake. And every evening we were serenaded by loons. The perfect vacation.
The stay at this lakefront cabin was just what we needed! It is situated on a beautiful piece of land right on the lake, overlooking the mountains. The only noises we heard were the loon calls (which is our favorite sound!) and a bullfrog from time to time. We spent each day playing in the water, on the beach, fishing and paddling around the lake. Andrew and Bob were both very friendly and accommodating. We can't say enough about what a good time we had...we have all been bumming since we left, wishing we were still there. lol. We can't wait to come back again!
My family and I had a wonderful time at the lake. It was perfect in every way. If you are looking to escape the daily and just be with your loved ones with a book and your thoughts this is it. We enjoyed early morning kayak rides, picnic lunches by the shore, evenings by the fire. My family and I would like to thank the owner and caretaker for their hospitality.
We loved Andrew's cottages! It was the absolute perfect spot to relax and to use as a base for exploring the area. Though in the end, we spent much more time on the property than we had planned as it was just so lovely! Private beach, beautiful sunsets, and free use of kayaks & paddle boards. Why leave our little cove?
The cabin was spacious but cozy, especially at night with a fire going. The dogs especially LOVED the property (Andrew's dog and my dog had a little end-of-summer romance going on).
We were quite happy we had brought a good bit of food and drinking water with us so we didn't have to venture out the first or even second day. But Milbridge is only a 20-min drive and has a market with everything you'd need and the local fish market, Chipman's is great--we bought fish to grill (the cabin has a great gas grill), a seafood casserole, lobster & crab dip....
One day we hiked Tunk Mountain (only a 5-10 min drive) and one day we hiked Black Mountain (a bit farther but well worth it for spectacular views of MDI). Both great hikes.
We wished we had stayed a whole week. We will definitely be back!!
My family had the best week at the Lake house! 10 yr old never tired of trying to catch frogs, swimming out to the platform and testing out the SUP. Dogs loved the freedom, swimming for hours and fishing. Grown ups got a lot of floating around the lake and relaxing time. It was a great break for all of us. Owners were very friendly and extremely helpful. Property was very quiet and off the beaten path which was exactly what we needed. Extremely kid and dog friendly! The cabin was the perfect size with a really great master bedroom. We had a lot of aspirations to hit a bunch of the local hiking spots but we ended up spending most of our time at the lake just soaking it in. This was a trip that made everyone happy!
The property and the surrounding area are very dear to me. We donated thousands of acres to the State of Maine for a Maine State Land Reserve which is now enjoyed and respected by enthusiastic visitors. We work hard to keep our remaining private peninsula pristine and in complete respect to the natural beauty of the area. I grew up in the Bangor and Downeast area and have a strong connection to the Acadia region. We have two other rentals on the same 300 acres; (gogle: "VRBO 102873ha", "VRBO 102874ha", and "VRBO 4017223ha" ). There is plenty of privacy. We have been renting and maintaining this beautiful property for 30+ years. Please feel free to look at our rentals and view our instagram (at MaineCabinRentals) or Youtube (at mainebestcabins774) for a feel of the property experience.
**Please inquire to Owner first prior to booking. Thank you.
In 1994 we gifted 7500 acres of the property to the State of Maine for a preserved land reserve. We kept the 300 acre peninsula where now three rental cabins are located. The surrounding area is an undiscovered wilderness. The hiking is incredible with tremendous views of Downeast Maine and Acadia National Park. There are many remote lakes and ponds snuggled in the hills that provide total privacy. In addition, Acadia National Park is only a short drive away and can easily be visited for a day or afternoon. Our lake and the other surrounding lakes, ponds, and mountains are minimally developed if developed at all. Directly in front of the cottage is a 1000-foot soft sandy beach with beautiful swimming. Additionally our peninsula has several private beaches within a couple minutes walking distance or short kayak paddle. There is a mile long gated private driveway, allowing for considerable privacy. The large private property has VRBO listings (gogle: "VRBO 102873ha", "VRBO 102874ha", and "VRBO 4017223ha" ). Two proximal reserves have been designated here: 1,940 acres east of Donnell Pond and 4,274 acres northeast of our lake. The mountains and lakes formed by the Tunk Mountain Pluton constitute one of the most distinctive landmarks of the East Coastal Region. The two reserves include mid-elevation (~1,200 foot) summits of Tunk Mountain, Black Mountain, and Caribou Mountain as well as Tilden Pond, and Little Long Pond. The Stateâs best private beach, cleanest water and swimming. Fantastic views and sunsets, well maintained cottage with proximity to the Maine coast and easy access to Acadia National Park. A perfect romantic get-a-way or a memorable family Maine woods, lake and coastal experience!
