We had a lovely week staying in this comfortable cottage. It had everything we needed for our stay, and so peaceful. The garden was perfect for a dog, really secure, and then all the woodlands around for walking meant we didnât have to travel anywhere if we didnât want to!
Nikki was very friendly, helpful and easy to contact.
The cottage is beautiful and really lovely place for a calm, peaceful get away! I stayed with my mum and we bought our labrador who had a great time and was spoilt for choice! Would highly recommend and we hope to stay again next year. Thanks so much Nicky & family!
My family travelled to Exeter for our youngest daughters wedding the house was perfect, right size and spotless clean. We met the owners and were very nice. Overall we had a great stay and would use this property again should we visit that area again.
We've stayed in cottages in Devon many times and I don't think we've ever stayed in such a peaceful and relaxing environment. And with 2 Labradors and a teenage son in tow as well.
Communication with Nikki both before and during our stay was brilliant and the location and surrounding are amazing. We'll hopefully get a chance to stay again soon.
We wanted to stay near Exeter not only to tour the university, but to have a few days holiday with my elderly parents. We could not have asked for a prettier cottage or more delightful location than Poppy's Cottage. The cottage is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, light and airy. Nikki left scones jam and cream to greet us, along with butter, eggs, milk and bread, so we felt immediately at home. There was a wonderful downstairs bedroom and ensuite which suited my parents perfectly. The gardens surrounding the cottage, which guests are free to walk around are stunningly beautiful, and we all loved watching the birds on the bird feeder outside the kitchen window. A day out at Killerton House was ideal for those with mobility issues - there were golf buggies to take guests to the house and around the gardens. The guides were wonderful. All in all, I can honestly say that we have never enjoyed a vacation cottage more. Thank you so much, Nikki for a fantastic experience. We fell in love with Poppy's Cottage and cannot wait to visit again.
This property was perfect. Photos are accurate but do not do it complete justice. There were five of us staying here aged from 20s to 80s, and all had a lovely stay.
Very spacious cottage, beautifully furnished, comfy and cosy. Plenty of car parking space. Everything that we needed was available within the cottage. Kitchen had all that we needed to cook family meals and make tea or coffee. The outside garden was an ideal place for us to host our local family with its two seating sets with tables, suitable for 10-12 to enjoy tea out on the lawn and enjoy quietude within the the surrounds. Plus the adjacent gym/ping pong provided fun entertainment for those of us with more energy. We also went for lovely walks around the property and local forest, and we even had the ownerâs two dogs (Woody and Willow) join us for one of our three mile jaunts in the woods.
The location is simply idyllic and beautifully representative of Devon country life, very close to Crediton and its conveniences, such as a Tesco Superstore and two petrol stations. Easy access to the Devon coast at Budleigh and Sidmouth and to Castle Drogo, a modern and interesting castle in a very scenic area.
This cottage is really a special experience. Highly recommend.
The photos don;t really convey how great this cottage is. Superb attention to detail, quality throughout and looked after.
We had a real and needed break and despite appalling weather, the cottage made it special.
...just a pity VRBO don't care for their app as well as the owners do this cottage (the known 'network error' they haven't fixed)
This well-equipped cottage is exactly as described in the listing and had everything we needed for our stay. Nikki and family were excellent hosts, providing a thoughtful welcome pack for our arrival and on hand for anything we might need, whilst respecting our privacy throughout our stay. We loved the cottage and the tranquility of the setting; If you are looking for peace and a getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life, this is the place to come! As well as your own gated garden, you also have access to beautiful woodland right on your doorstep. We also thoroughly enjoyed exploring the gardens of the main house when they were opened on the Wednesday of our stay, made all the more special by our personal tour being provided by Nikki's two dogs, Woody and Willow! For our teenagers, the private gym and the table tennis were a real bonus. I only wish we could have stayed longer, to explore more of the area and spend more quality time with each other in this beautiful setting.
Fantastic property in an idillic setting. Loads to see and do just a short distance away but sorely tempted to remain hidden in the surroundings of Poppyâs Cottage.
Wonderful experience from start to finish. We were looking for a home base for a few days as we explored Dartmoor and Exeter. Poppyâs Cottage was absolutely perfect - I wish our days had been a little less busy, so we could have enjoyed more time there. Huge cottage that is very well laid out with all the amenities that one might need, along with a gorgeous garden with fragrant flowers all around. Absolutely tranquil - all you could hear was the sounds of birds calling and bees buzzing. Gracious hosts who were great with communication along with kind touches such as leaving milk, eggs, scones on our first day. Very friendly dog welcoming you to play fetch ad infinitum. Would love to come back and stay for longer. Convenient access to a supermarket for stocking up on supplies. Honestly, donât know how this place could get any better.
An amazing cottage of a very high standard. Owner very friendly and left essentials plus homemade cream tea for our arrival. Truly idyllic setting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Wonderful and we will be booking again.
We had such a lovely relaxed week in this stunning cottage. Plenty of room for us all including our dog! We loved the styling of all the rooms and the beds were amazingly comfy! We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed sitting in the garden with a coffee or a wine!!! The location is great - just 15 mins into Exeter and about 45 mins to Exmouth beach which is dog friendly. We ate at The Stables and The Beer Engine - would recommend both. We would love to stay again!
Great location, quiet and peaceful. Lovely country walks and surrounded area. Highly recommended
The property was clean and unlike many other places weâve stayed very well equipped and stocked. The teenagers really appreciated the smart TV-Netflix and prime
Poppy's Cottage is a place to escape to in a tranquil setting
We had such a wonderful week relaxing in such an amazing setting for the cottage. You do feel that you have escaped from life and can enjoy the beautiful cottage and garden. The weather was superb and so enjoyed eating in the garden everyday. The cottage is of a high standard and very well equipped. It is a good location to explore south Devon and beaches. Local amenities are excellent. Nikki was at hand if needed and able to deal with questions. We would love to return.
The cottage is off the beaten track and perfectly decorated and kitted out for a family break. The welcome pack including scones, jam and cream was a lovely surprise. The log burning stove was lovely for a cold and wet evening and the ping pong table was well used by all.
We had a wonderful stay at Poppyâs Cottage. Very roomy but homely cottage with everything you need available, surrounded by beautiful gardens and nature. Warm welcome received, welcome pack including all essentials and cream tea, fresh eggs and toiletries. Couldnât want for anything more for our short stay, and hosts were more than accommodating and couldnât do enough for us, but also respected our privacy. Would happily return.
Thank you for a wonderful break.

A lovely house set in beautiful gardens , very peaceful setting.
Very comfortable beds , with everything that we needed for the week. An especially nice touch was the welcome pack provided by Nikki who made our week a special one.
Poppyâs cottage is perfect break. Tucked away in the middle of nowhere - exactly what was needed. Nikki ensures everything is working perfectly to ensure your stay is maximised.
We have just returned from a six night stay at this property. Everything was perfect. We visited Exeter, Topness and Exmouth, Dartmoor (making friends with the ponies) and Torquay and Dartmouth. All are within easy reach. We also enjoyed walking through the gardens and numerous paths through the woods around the cottage.
Leisurely meals around the kitchen table, planning the next days activities over a glass of wine and chatting long into the night were much appreciated after recent months of 'lock down'.
The weather was fantastic and we were able to sit out until late in the evening even taking advantage of the BBQ. We will never forget the stars and the evening we were visited by number of Tawny owls.
Thank you Nikki for a most enjoyable and welcome stay.

I have been living in Devon since 1998. We fell in love with our house and embarked on a huge renovation program of both the main house and the cottage, both of which needed pretty much everything doing. Seeing the finished results has made it all worth while and we look forward to welcoming guests to the beautiful house and grounds
Close to the sea (pop on local train 10 mins drive away with free car park) and have one of the most scenic train journeys along the coast to the beach, or discover wild Dartmoor, historic Exeter, the North Coast The Tarka Trail or simply stay put in beautiful surroundings doing little more than enjoying the peace and gardens...Poppyâs Cottage is a wonderful central location to see and do so much
Poppyâs Cottage is set in amazing grounds and one of the most amazing gardens in the country. Its is totally removed from the noise of cars and surrounded by woods, gardens and wildlife. However Exeter is under 15 mins away and therefore great for eating out or going slightly further afield to the sea (catch the local train) or Dartmoor
