Great Roanoke Stay
This older but well-modernized house offers a quiet and comfortable stay in the Roanoke suburbs. Surprisingly large inside, easy room for up to 3 couples or family with multiple kids. The house is dog friendly with a fully fenced backyard. Two car garage with room for 2 more cars in the driveway and an electric vehicle charger. Gas grill and hot tub on the patio. Inside, very well-appointed with 3 bedrooms (ceiling fans in each), comfortable living room with large-screen TV, a home theater in the basement, and a well-stocked kitchen with all the basics (electric stove, countertop toaster oven, coffeemaker and Keurig) and a good selection of staples, condiments, and spices/seasonings. Washer/dryer in the basement which worked well. Bedding/linens were comfortable and the front bedroom has an adjustable Sleep Number king size. Nice bathroom and shower on the main level. Throughout the home, vibrant and eye-catching decorations make for good conversation starters. Central AC is efficient and effective. Keyless entry on front and back doors worked well throughout the visit. I wouldn't call these negatives, but a few things to be aware of. The neighborhood has some sidewalks and you can walk to a couple of restaurants and other businesses, but there isn't much to do in the immediate area, and some of the local choices require you to cross Brambleton Ave., a semi-busy thoroughfare with no crosswalks. You'll want to hop in the car if going downtown or to Wasena Park - these are about a 10/12 minute drive away. The backyard faces Brambleton Ave. so there's a fairly constant drone of auto traffic and some noise from the nearby businesses out on the patio; we didn't find it too bothersome but it's not a completely tranquil experience. Importantly, no road noise makes it into the house with the windows shut. We noticed only one very minor maintenance issue, which is that the ignition switch on the gas grill didn't work (can light it with a match). Overall, this house is an outstanding base for a visit to Roanoke, great jumping off point for the city center, hiking opportunities up or down the Blue Ridge Parkway, or local wineries, breweries, and distilleries.
