Overall no concerns were had with the stay! It was a great family weekend. The lake was great, you can fish right off of the dock, the beds were comfy, lots of variety for kitchen utensils/appliances. It was clean and the check in process was smooth. The only downfall were the stairs thereâs about 25 stairs that go down to the lake & about 20 stairs to get to the cottage from the car so be prepared.
Property is in a beautiful area, owners are extemely helpful and prompt to answer questions the lake is beautiful once you swim out a little. Overall an amazing experience and i highly recommend. Will be staying here again
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Family Cottage Retreat on Rice Lake. The cottage was very clean, quiet, and comfortable and most inviting. The newly installed air conditioning system and security alarms were a real plus as was the new BBQ grill. The kitchen appliances were excellent. The fire pit by the lake shore most inviting. The two bathrooms and three bedrooms were very good. Indeed, it is an excellent getaway. Our 12-year old grandson loved the paddle boat. The owners were really cooperative with us and responsible and are really trying to make this a fine place to stay. However, there are some drawbacks. The many flights of stairs and slightly slanted floors posed a challenge, especially for aging parents. The lack of bedroom dressers and getting the hot water to work for the kitchen sink were drawbacks. Adding new laundry facilities and towels would be a real plus, especially for those like us who will stay for a week's time. There also is no sandy beach for little children. In many ways it is more conducive for fishing than swimming, more for the middle aged than for older folks and those with very young children. Nor did it come cheap - a bit overpriced. VRBO should make it more clear upfront whether costs are in Canadian or, as it was in this case, in American dollars.Overall we enjoyed our stay very much.
We enjoyed our stay here! Loved that there were some kayaks and a paddle boat that we could use. Great view of the river - and really nice to have the picnic table down by the dock to enjoy meals. Water was a bit weedy, but that didn't stop us for going in for a dip! I would happily recommend this property to others.
Clean cottage, spacious main room. Having two bathrooms is great for a big group. Nice dock with fire pit and sunset views across the water. Ten minute drive from Hastings. We had a great weekend!
Clarifications: "kayaks" are for children (100lb limit), "boat" is a two-person pedalboat, "bikes" are for small children.
We had a lovely time at this cottage. It was very clean, all the kitchen things you need are provided, and it's right on the lake. The decks and dock were great spots to spend a weekend, and the bbq came in handy. It's close to a town too if you forget anything.
Some downsides to note: There was a large tv, but unfortunately the wifi didn't really work, so keep that in mind if that's an important part of your stay. There's a hottub in the listing but there isn't one at the cottage. I also checked if towels were provided, but when the 6 of us arrived there were only 2. I messaged the host days ago but still haven't heard back...
