Really great place for family to gather! Had an excellent vacation despite some rainy/stormy weather. The porches are a great place to enjoy a rainstorm - and we did.
My 85-year-old mother and I stayed here for a week, and my adult children and their partners joined us for part of the week. Later in the week, my 91-year-old aunt came to visit. Not the best place for elderly disabled folks, but great otherwise. The aunt's visit was a surprise.
The property owner and his sister are fantastic to work with. The check in and out process was super easy and we were all impressed at how clean the house was. We will definitely be back!
Dawg House is a perfect location for an easy walk to the beach. The house is clean and well-maintained. The owner was very responsive to emails. We loved our stay!
Easy access to the beach. The house was clean and spacious and the property manager was very responsive when we accidentally locked ourselves out of the house. Tip: leave one key in the lockbox so you donât get locked out. ;)
This house is very well maintained, clean and in the perfect location to walk to the beach. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need and the beds are very comfortable. I highly recommend this house and we will definitely try to reserve it for future trjps to Sunset Becah. We really enjoyed our stay!
The "Dawg" house was perfect for our small girls' weekend getaway. House was very clean, and just as pictured - the perfect size for our group of three (and could have definitely accommodated more). We had great weather and enjoyed a cocktail each evening on the elevated porch and the kitchen had all the amenities we needed to cook in each evening. Bob was very responsive both before & during our stay. The weather was great and we really enjoyed long walks (including one to leave a message in the Kindred Spirit mailbox) and relaxing time on the beach. We will definitely return.
I honestly donât think the reviews explain this property well. It was a dream come true for my family. We literally couldnât have been happier.Everything about this home was perfect. This was our first visit to Sunset beach but I sure hope to come back.We usually go to Florida but I will say that SSB is up there with our favorite plus much closer to home.I am struggling getting back to real life since we have been back. I just want to be back at the Dawg house! I highly recommend going to Kindred Spirit while there.I bought the book-Every Breath(Nichols Sparks)before we left, read while there and finished today. It is about Sunset and it will pull at your heart strings.I honestly canât say enough about this place. It just felt like home.I also thought it was so nice that Bob sent an email wishing us a safe trip home. You will not be disappointed.
Great location and the house was plenty for what we needed for the week. Easy walk to the beach everyday. Rooms were spacious and bathrooms were well stocked. The kitchen had all the things needed to cook and prep any meals. Ice maker was slow, so if you were like us and packing a cooler either go to one of the 1stores and get ice trays or just grab a few bags of ice.
Overall, the house is okay, but in need of maintenance and upgrades. Pros:-Good-sized dining table.-Plenty of seating in the living room and on the front porch.-Screened-in porch.-Great location, away from the island's main entrance.Cons:-Broken dishwasher (top rack didnât clean, bottom rack slid out every time the door was down).-Broken back door blinds, which the property contact (owner's sister) insisted her cleaning person told her it wasn't broken before our arrival. We only discovered it was broken because we were trying to lower them, which she also questioned us about, because apparently it should have been down. She showed absolutely no trust in what we said as renters.-Worn and stained bed sheets and towels.-Coffee maker still had an old filter and grounds â clearly not cleaned.-Creaky beds (except for the two single beds).-Rusty and very noisy front porch fan.-Exposed nail heads in the outdoor shower and on the porch/balcony and front/back stairs.-We had issues with the outdoor storage locks/keys, and when the property contact finally addressed it, she was dismissive.-Property contact (at least for our experience). This was our 9th time on the island and the 6th rental house, it wasn't the worst, but unfortunately not as nice as it could have been. Owners' photos are accurate to what you'll find, but once settled in, we found everything simply lacked care and upkeep.
If you are looking for an affordable way to stay on Sunset Beach without sacrificing comfort you have found the place! Bobâs house provided everything we needed for a week-long stay at a FABULOUS price. The house was easy to access, within walking distance to the beach and far enough away from the pier that people were not sitting on top of you on the beach. I would recommend this house to any family on a budget. The items Iâm mentioning below are simply to ensure full transparency as I take these reviews into consideration when renting so I want to provide this to others.Know when booking that this is not a 5-star resort and itâs a beach house that could use some updates. The mattresses were clean and all linens were provided, which is a major plus, but as the mom I had to Goldilocks it and find the bed that was just right. One squeaked so loud when shifting sides the first night that I had to switch rooms. The most comfortable beds in the house were the two single beds which my kids had. The bathrooms could have used updated shower curtains and rings as these were rusted which made me worry at first site. Petty but this is a cheap replacement to ensure things appear clean.Pluses were that the outdoor shower has been completely updated and was amazing. The kitchen was well-stocked with dishes, pots, pans, and utensils. Washer and dryer were nice plus. This house was clean and worth the cost! Bob was easy to work with and the price is right to stay on Subset Beach!
We really enjoyed our stay at this house. It was a great fit for our family of 6 and had everything we needed. Just a short walk to the beautiful beach. We loved this quiet and relaxing neighborhood. I enjoyed drinking my coffee on the deck in the rocking chair.
We enjoyed a wonderful week at the Dawg House! The location is great, the neighborhood is quiet, the house is exactly as described, and the kitchen is fully equipped. We walked to the beach every day. Just a really great trip!
