Loved the Shell house for our recent beach stay. It has plenty is space for our family of 6. Less than a block from the nearest beach access point. It was clean and decently maintained. The only minor negatives is that the starter on the grill doesnât work and the cable stations were not functional either. Neither was a big deal as we didnât watch TV much. Overall, it was a great house on Sunset Beach. We would stay here again!
The Shell House was a nice place to stay. We were a short walk to the beach and to the end of the island to watch the sunset. We took my 95-year-old mother, and the town of Sunset was more than happy to provide us a wheelchair that would go on the beach. They dropped it off and picked it up. We had no problems at the cottage. Nice quiet neighbors. Nice place and easy access!
Very clean, convenient and cozy! Close to beach and restaurants. Host was wonderful and responds quickly. Bring your own chairs, towels, linens, and toilet paper. The outside shower is Heavenly!
Communication with property owner and check in was accurate and concise. We arrived to a house in absolutely deplorable shape. Counters were covered in spilled drink, food and sand all over floors, garbage overflowing and bathrooms were horrendous with urine all over seats, floors, body hair all over toilets, sinks, and showers. After spending 60 in cleaning supplies and 3 hours later is was somewhat decent to stay at. Blood spots, bodily fluid stains all over the beds, so bad that our group slept in sleeping bags on the beds and had to use camping gear for better sanitary conditions than the bedding we arrived to.Listing claims there is a hot tub, there is none, dryer has no heating element, you take your life in your own hands going up to the roof deck with the amount of rotten wood.Did get a hold of the property owner after multiple attempts, they apologized for lack of cleanliness, but even with a cleaning the furnishings were super rough.Loved Sunset Beach, location was good - renter beware or alternatively you might want to get a penicillin shot after your stay.
The pictures on the website donât do the home justice. Itâs truly beautiful inside, with a new couch, screened in porch, nice sized kitchen, comfortable beds, 5 minute walk from the beach.
In the detailed description of the property, bicycles, hot tub, and spa tub were listed. However none of those three items actually came with the property. I spoke with the owner and he said he would update the list of amenities, but we were disappointed and we paid a certain price expecting those amenities and should get at least a small refund since they were not available. Also, the coffee maker was in a cabinet, and when I brought it down, I found coffee grounds that not been removed, and there was a thick layer of mold growing on top. The owner said it was not the responsibility of the cleaners to look in the cabinets for items.
Great location terrible house and maintenance and couldn't contact the guy who owns it about issues
Very disappointed. We were here the late part of April. Home is in a wonderful location but was a complete mess. The return registers filter was caked up like a sweater. House had a wet smell. Floors were dirty and sticky. I had to drive 35 minutes each way to Walmart to get a filter and I replaced it. We vacuumed all the floors. Under beds were disgusting. I also Swiffer wet jetted all the floors. There was a pill in the floor of the room one of our babies were in. I had to Lysol everything. Dishes in dishwasher were left dirty and food still on them and food in the bottom of the dishwasher also. The bathroom floors were disgusting. He also has a sign at the thermostat that says it can't be set below 75 in summer and 55 is the highest in the winter. I have never seen anything like this. Steps going up to roof deck are cracked on the main support and unstable. His sign downstairs says he's retired and he's not fixing anything. Apparently he means it. We left the home in way better shape than we found it. I was hoping he would have gotten back to me by now, but I guess not. If I were to go to Sunset Beach again, I would go with there on island property management agency. Apparently the owner and VRBO don't care about there guests its been over a month.
I was raised in North Carolina but after making a career of the USAF all of my children squatted in northern Virginia, with my grand children, so I'm stuck except when I get to enjoy beautiful Sunset Beach, NC and we do that as often as we can. Bill Bethea
