We were within about 10 blocks of Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Garden - this meant the only time we actually needed to ride the bus was to and from Kanazawa Station, only 3 stops away. The rest was completely walkable with kids. The apartment was located in Kinboro- well known for the several hundred year old Samurai residences. We were within a few hundred meters of excellent dining options. One of those was Izumino, whose amazing owners stuffed us with sashimi and crab cakes and spoiled our kids. The room itself was spacious with a modular bath/shower and Toto wash let toilet along with a fully equipped kitchen. They even provided towels, slippers, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo and toothpaste, which appears to be common in Japan. Note there is a Kanazawa tourism levy, if there was one criticism Iâd say I wish that couldâve been paid with the rest of the pre-paid stay, however it makes sense that they cannot collect it until we actually show up. Arigato Gozaimas!
Host did not provide lock box code in itinerary and did not follow up prior to check in. He didnât reply to my emails requesting this information leaving us unable to access the unit. Expedia then doesnât accept any fault when they could also easily provide better communication and follow up emails. The day after we were to check in the host finally replied to Expedia providing us the access codes for a completely different room that was occupied by someone else! Through guessing and the help from some other travellers we were finally able to figure out how to get into our unit. The building is not maintained and stair well was very dirty with lots of cob webs and bugs. The room was spacious but also not clean. Lint, hair and dirt in and around the washing machine. Kitchen appliances had crumbs and splatters of food. All cushions stained. It was just very unfortunate. But Kanazawa is amazing! Just choose to stay in a different accommodation.
