"The Cave" West Hobart: eco friendly apartment đ đ± đłïžââ§ïž
"The Cave" is a stylish and unique self-contained apartment under my centrally located 1885 West Hobart home. It is a 15 minute walk to the city centre and a short walk to the Elizabeth Street North Hobart cafe strip.
With the stairs to the entry and the bed in a raised platform "nook", "The Cave" may not be for everyone, but if you're looking for well located lodgings that ooze atmosphere I think you'll love it!
The space The Cave is well appointed, private, cosy and comfortable, with access to the garden. I have put thought and effort into it having everything you might need, for a long or short stay. For e.g. the kitchen has everything you should need for cooking, including a stick blender, there is a bluetooth speaker for music, and there is Chromecast available on the TV. However, I request that you don't cook meat or fish (I am vegan and the smell lingers in the space and can transfer to my home upstairs).
Please note that there are stairs to negotiate and also that the bed is on a raised platform. Also, there may be guests (and me!) in the house above you, and though I have worked hard in the renovation to minimize sound transfer between the house and "the cave" you will likely hear some footsteps etc.
I am open to pets staying, but please check with me first. No more than 2 dogs are allowed and a one off additional cleaning fee of $20 per stay applies. Pets must be kept under control at all times (I have a cat and a dog - my dog is great with other dogs but my cat is less so, but tends not to spend a great deal of time in the garden). I supply clean covers for the couches, and can provide beds and bowls. Any mess in the garden must be cleaned up.
There is a couch I can make up as single bed (there is a charge of $20 per night for a 3rd guest). I also rent my guest room in the main house on occasion, so if there are more than two of you traveling and you are looking to stay together let me know and I can advise if the guest room is available and what the cost would be.
Guest access I live upstairs, and so the garden and laundry outside "The Cave" is shared.
I live an eco-friendly lifestyle and would really appreciate your help with this. I try and minimise plastic use, I compost fruit and vegetable scraps (the compost bin is under the kitchen sink), recycle, and turn off lights and heating when they're not needed.
I supply breakfast, including a range of teas, coffee, sugar, non-dairy milks, and spreads (margarine, jams etc), organic and gluten-free mueslis and other cereals, fruit, and there is bread in the freezer for toast. I also supply oil, vinegar, salt and pepper for cooking, and there are some other basics (pasta, rice, etc). You're also welcome to help yourself to herbs from the garden. I am very happy to give you herbs and spices from my supply - just ask :-)
Fabulous self contained unit, helpful host, and excellent location!! We had a super relaxing time in comfort, and particularly appreciated the generous 'home touches' throughout the accomodation and welcome pack of eadible goodies.
An absolutely wonderful stay. Clear communication, great location, and the place itself was well catered and clean upon arrival. Something to note for other travellers: the place lies underneath the main property of the owner, and so sound travels very easily from upstairs. It didnât bother us at all, but may for some other people.
Great location and welcoming pet friendly accommodation.
We have just enjoyed 2 very relaxing nights at The Cave, a fantastic location in West Hobart and appreciated all the thoughtful details the host provides. The host dog gets a 5 star rating too!
The host was great but I guess there were a few things that would have changed my mind to stay there. The parking or lack thereof, the stairs to get suitcases and gear up and down, the requirement to use a ladder to get into bed, and the 'please don't cook any meat'. Might just be a younger persons gig.....
Hi Anita.
I'm sorry these things were a problem for you, but as they are all clearly outlined in the listing and are also clear in the photographs I just don't understand why you'd book a place that was going to be unsuitable for you. Also my message reply when you booked make the fact that there is only off-street parking very clear, and in 12 years of hosting you are one of the very rare guests who have had any trouble with finding a place to park.
I have people of all ages staying, all 5 star reviews until yours, and lots of repeat customers, so I know that people who have taken notice of the listing details love my place.
Please be sure to read listing information and look at the photos before booking accommodation through VRBO, as it sounds like you may have found a hotel room more suitable for your needs.
Cozy nook to set up as a base to explore the sites of Hobart. Yvette's communication and home was a lovely stay. The 2 beds at this price point was great
We had a cosy experience staying here with all the amenities needed. Lovely location with a view over the city and the sunrise each morning. Yvette is highly responsive and will answer any questions you have. Good location near cool Hobart spots without being smack in the city.
I was only in the area for a short time, but The Cave was a perfect location for everything I wanted to do! The home was clean and it had everything I needed. Yvette was responsive and cared for me as her guest!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The apartment was set up very thoughtfully and included everything needed for an enjoyable stay.
Host was very helpful and lovely to correspond with.
Would have no hesitation in staying again.
Location was very good as well with access to CBD easy.
Exceeded our expectations. Generous host providing all sorts of goodies as well as the opportunity to harvest from the variety of herbs and produce from the garden. Lovely quiet location but close to restaurants and attractions.
You walk in the door and you are greated by a beautiful, clean, well presented little hideaway.
Cosy and warm in every way, didnt want for anything. Lovely fresh loaf of bread and a selection of fruit as well as tea, coffee and breakfast items.
I could go on and on, this place was incredibly â€â€â€â€â€â€
We had the most wonderful time at the Cave.
Such a lovely, comfortable and inviting space :)
The location of the apartment was great, lots of restaurants and cafes at walking distance.
The communication with Yvette was seamless. We look forward to our next visit !

We are very happy to have found a great pet-friendly place to stay in Hobart. The Cave is quite unique, small but well-designed with a lovely ambience and pretty garden. Itâs warm and cosy with views over rooftops to the city. Yvette has thought of everything and kindly left food and water bowls for our whippet and fresh flowers on the table. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Very happy with the stay. Clean, smart, plenty of food/drink supplies and even a friendly cat. Host was responsive and happy for us to drop our bags off early.
The only negative is a slight lack of headroom above the bed. But very minor issue.
The pictures don't really do this place justice. It is a quirky cellar apartment which is cleverly designed and very well equipped. Living space is comfortable, kitchen is super well equipped, bathroom is immaculate and the whole place feels light and spacious. The kitchen also had proper coffee, tea, and even some free pre-pack meals.
It is about a 20 minute walk to centre of Hobart. There is also a local brewery and a fantastic Japanese restaurant (izakaya style) only 5 minutes away.
Cute place just what we needed, walk to the action of Hobart (hilly area) and the place was very well supplied with everything we needed for a weekend away. Thank you!

Having felt like I was running an informal B&B for many years for friends and family, I decided I may as well offer my home and hospitality to other travelers. I've been an AirBnB host for 12 years, and it has been a wonderful experience!
