Initially, the place felt a bit institutional, but when we got in and got our stuff in, it was extremely functional and when the views are available, they are no doubt gorgeous. Also although the area feels a bit industrial, it is extremely well situated and easy to walk to a lot of Dunedin. Once we settled in, we really enjoyed our stay.
When we stayed, the building's exterior was under renovation. It also needed some amenities, but I understand from the owner that these things have been corrected. The location is great, and the place is spacious.
The bedrooms were roomy and comfortable but the bathroom situation is strange and not very private. The kitchen is poorly equipped. The building stairwell is smelly and dirty. Be prepared for 3 flights up a narrow stairwell -- no elevator.
Our host was easily contacted. Good communication and He arranged special safe place to park our bikes, so very grateful. There is no elevator which is something to be mindful of as it is the second floor. Apartment suited us, we were 3 couples and a single. Facilities as described.
Property was fine just note it is single glazed so quite noisy and we assume the prior guests must have either cooked fish or stored fish in the apartment as it smelled very bad. Think owners knew as every window in the place as open when we arrived, but did not seem to have worked at all.
Quirky apartment, very industrial. Good location. Could use a little more cleaning (I had a banana peel on the shelf in my room, and a shirt hanging on the back of the bathroom door from previous renter). No where to put a suitcase except the floor or on the bed. Convenient location and close to shopping and restaurants. No parking space, but It was easy to find paid parking all around the building.
Its an old historic building its got lots of character, its quirky, the apartments are spacious and the view once you're up there is worth it! - overlooking queens gardens
