This space was exactly what we needed! It was intimate, close to the towns of Smith River, Crescent City and Brookings. It was quiet, peaceful, intimate and serene. The porch was my favorite part.

We absolutely loved it here. Perfect for a getaway for two!My only complaint is the tile leading up to the bathroom is EXTREMELY slick. Both my husband and I slipped on it coming from the shower to the main room. He fell hard! Other than that it was perfect and we will definitely book again next time we come to Brookings!

Overall our stay was perfectly fine. The space served it's purpose for what we needed. Our check in process was confusing as we were unaware that it was a duplex property and there were guests in the other unit. The two units were not clearly marked so we spent some time wandering to find our door.

Overall Great Place To Stay

We stayed at this property while visiting the Redwood national State Park. For what we needed this property worked great. However, the tenants upstairs caused issues due to being able to hear footsteps until early hours of the morning. I will say that it does feel strange to meet other people on the property while you are staying there.

Will start with the good. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was nicely equipped. Enjoyed the peek-a-boo ocean view. Nice toiletries in the bathroom. There is a microwave even though it doesn't show in the photos or description. Now for the challenging part. We had a terrible time getting the lock box for the key open. Really starting to think we were going to have to contact someone to even get in. They have removed the table and chairs in the photos and there is no where sit and eat. You could at least buy a cheap table and chairs at one of the thrift stores so there's a place to sit down and eat. Other than the challenges we enjoyed our quiet time there. There was no one staying upstairs so it might be a lots noisier if there were people up there.

We enjoyed our stay the first night. However the second night, a family moved into the unit above us at 10:30 pm. They were very noisy. Their kids were running back and forth constantly. I would not rent the unit again not knowing who would be in the upstairs unit.

As the other reviews say, it's very loud even when the upstairs visitors are aware. There were warm beers left on the table, crumbs in the sink, and kitchen appliances randomly in the sink. Overall quality is low. I see the price has gone up and it is barely worth $100 a night. If you have a low bar to be net and traveling on a budget, it'll do the trick.

We had a very hard time trying to find exactly where our room was and how to get our key out of the lock box. We called the contact person twice and NEVER heard back. The room smelled so bad when we got in it fortunately we were able to open windows and air it out. The "steps" up to the deck were just two loose stone slabs and no hand rails The yard was very uneven and full of potholes. There was no dining table or chairs in the room so we ended up sittng on the bed and using the nightstands as tables. The stove in the kitchen was just 2 small burners that never got hot enough to cook on and the pots and pans were so large one of them covered both burners. There were 2 plates, two bowls and 12 coffee cups and 2 glasses. The coffee maker did not work right water came out and all over the counter instead of going into the pot. The toaster would not work. There were 2 steps up to the bathroom and they could not be seen in the dark. For safety a hand rail on the wall would have been nice. You need instructions for the TV we never did figure out how to work it..

Enjoyable Get away!!!

This property is quite old!! But it is as advertised very relaxing!!! We could hear the waves coming in and the sunsets were gorgeous. I was a little disappointed that a full sized refrig was on the listing… it is quite a small refrig.. the pans were adequate. The silverware was very sparse. No sharp knives!! I wanted to cut up an apple. I wish i had asked more questions. I took bottled water in because I wasn’t sure if the water was safe!! I would have loved to have a crock pot in there..The bed was adequate while I truly believe that the mattress was quite old. We debated about turning it around, but chose not to!!The chair is very old a rickety. My husband needed to keep his legs elevated and that was a real problem as he got tired of laying on the bed. Then could hardly get out of the chair. I loved the dresser space to unload our clothes!!Others on their reviews complained about the noise !! We had noise too, but remembered times when we took our grandchildren to hotels. Kids are just noisy so we chose to just appreciate those little feet noises!! The other renters were very apologetic to us. That was kind. I went and bought a mop so I could keep the floor clean. I am unclear if the 3 rolls of toilet paper were supposed to last the week? No problem we bought more then left it!!Every effort has been made to modernize it. We especially enjoyed the back deck and the yard for our 3 year old Malshi’s to run in!!I would definitely stay here again.

Noisy and odd

I booked this location for a short stay for my daughter and I. Upon arrival to the property it seemed like a normal house. We parked in the driveway and had to reread the directions as to how to get to our unit considering the main unit “A” was the front door to the house. It said walk around the back of the home and there is a door with unit B. This was rather confusing because the path around the house, or lack there of seemed like it was not the correct way to access our unit. Once in the back there were multiple doors and no real marking of which was unit B. We finally figured out which door was the right one. The door was unlocked upon arriving which was odd. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, the pillows were flat, there was black mold in the bathroom, no soap for dishes or for the shower, and the door was hard to lock. Those aren't even the worst. When we arrived we were the only ones there. At about 10:00 PM we began hearing stomping above is. When reading the reviews and a few people mentioned that if people were above you it was loud but that's an understatement. They had children which is not a big deal, but one child stomped around the house for about an hour, they were dragging things across the floor, and you could hear EVERY SINGLE step, voice, everything. It was extremely hard to sleep both nights because of this and there was no sleeping in because they were also up early stomping around more. Would not stay here again and would not recommend to anyone.

Wonderful Getaway

This was the perfect size for us. We loved the privacy. Might have been different if the main house also had occupants at the time, but we were the only ones there and it was wonderful!! The place has precious water damage and there are places where the floor is warped. The entire floor squeaks! Shower is a bit small but I was happy to see they have a handicapped toilet installed! Only enough dishes for two people so continual washing of dishes but overall, I rate this a 5.

Super Cute Spot!

Super cute spot, loved the feel of the room and property. No one was checked in above us so I was able to sit on the deck for a while and see a little bit of the ocean. Good water pressure and we both loved the little table and porch area, we ate out there several times. The only thing I didn’t like was that the bed was super firm and I had a really hard time sleeping on it. We had a great trip over all though.

We enjoyed our time here but wanted to note a few things for others. A previous review had noted there was no microwave. We were very happy to see there is now a microwave, toaster, coffee maker and 2 burner stove top. The studio is at the back of the property so quite a few steps on uneven ground to get your things moved in. Would not be a good choice for anyone with mobility issues. It would be nice if there was a place for towels where the shower door opens instead of on the other side of the bathroom. There is no counter space in the bathroom. We wound up putting our ice chest under the towel bar and putting a towel on it so we had a place for toothbrushes and other toiletries. A night light in the bathroom would be nice since you have to go up steps to get there. We left the porch light on so we would have some light to see our way. The bed is extremely comfortable and we slept very well, Kitchen was well equipped for 2 people. It was a nice quiet place to unwind. No one was staying upstairs so don't know how quiet it would have been if there had been someone up there? We were only 8 miles to Brookings, which is where we spent most of our time. We did like the soothing green and beach motif.

Studio for two in Smith River, CA

Location and price met our needs spot on. I highly recommend this studio. Near Crescent City & Gasquet, redwoods, & ocean. Large backyard (like small park) for our dog (1st road trip) to fetch ball. If owner trims a small area of brush, there will be ocean view from back yard! There are stairs to the roof and deck(although if house is rented, deck is off their master bedroom. We had it to ourselves!) with ocean view. Cozy space with blankets and heater to warm up from cool/humid climate. Kitchenette with essentials to cook meals for short stay. There are a few (what I consider) essentials for a long stay/luxuries for a short stay missing - no dish towels (I bought 2 and left for next guests😏), no cover on kitchen outlet ( safety concern-May be coming?) no microwave (microwave/convection oven would be even better), no colander, no large bowl, no hook nor shelf or cabinet in bathroom (holes in wall for these - may be coming), no face tissues (I bought and left for next guest).
