This farm stay was exactly what I wanted for my daughter who loves horses. She loved being able to feed and pat them whenever she liked, as they roamed around the farm. Beautiful scenery and Amber was fantastic at sharing information about the animals.
A beautiful farm stay experience with warm and welcoming hosts!
This was the perfect farm stay with plenty of activities for my 8yo son. New experiences can make him anxious but the hosts were kind, patient and flexible. Despite us not being able to arrive at the scheduled activity times due to my sonâs nerves, Helen and Ken made sure that he could conquer his fears and go horseback riding and drive his own ATV! They were incredibly warm and accommodating and I canât thank them enough for it.
The property is beautiful and every sunset was an event. Each night we roasted marshmallows at the campfire. There is a large petting zoo area with many animals to visit. Some of the animals graze out on the open field in front of your accommodation so it was not uncommon to have sheep hanging out in front of your cabin or goats walking alongside you as you make your way to the restaurant area for a delicious Wagyu barbecue!
The property is a 10 minute drive from the main area of Kuranda so we could enjoy the markets there as well as some day trips to other areas when we were not enjoying life on the farm.
It was delightful and I would definitely visit again!
Ken and his sister were just great! The farm was amazing the rooms, albeit small, was perfect for a one night stay. But what I really enjoyed was that Ken ans Helen were just so nice and easy to communicate with and eager to help this mum on her first solo trip with 2 kids, one who is an adorable bur energetic 2 year old boy. They went out of their way to help wherever they could and made the day wonderful. The farm wad beautiful to. So pretty and peaceful. Will be coming back... with the husband next time so there is an extra runner for the 'wild' child . Thanks Ken and Helen.
My family and I moved from Sydney to Cairns in 2014 when we purchased the farm to start a life style living and try to encourage my children to understanding farming and real meaning of sustainable living.
Coffee was extensively grown throughout the Kuranda/Myola region in the early 1890's until frosts wiped out large numbers crops in the early 1900's. Robert William Warren purchased portions of the land at Barnwell in the 1890s and established a coffee plantation on the property which was named "Downtown Farm." Dairy cattle were bought to Barnwell by William Henry Barnwell in 1936 and by 1939 he had managed to successfully establish for a dairy farmer and was advertising for a dairy hand with remuneration of 25 shillings per week and keep. Dairy cattle remained on the property until some point following World War II. It has been said that William Henry Barnwell was one of the earliest cattle farmers in the Myola and Kuranda areas to carry Droughtmaster cattle. He was well regarded as a 'cattle man' in the Myola area. Opening to public in August 2018, offering its guests an interactive, Australia cattle experience with a little adventure thrown in also and exquisite cuisine.
