The Cullisia cabin was originally constructed in the Laurel community near Marshall, North Carolina around 1892. The LL Merchants Company out of Asheville and the Presbyterians hired Jim Leake and Lump Norton to build the cabin for use as a mission and a doctor's office. All the logs were hand hewn.

To move the cabin, the logs were numbered and taken down one by one. In 2012 we rebuilt the cabin beside a mountain creek on East Cullisia Road in the Alarka community near Bryson City, NC.

We used reclaimed materials for the floor, walls and exterior gable ends. All of the logs and much of the inside paneling is native American Chestnut.

Most of the furniture is hand-made from reclaimed materials, using such old time techniques as mortise and tenoning. The heart pine bead board used in the downstairs bedroom was reclaimed from a one-room schoolhouse in Bryson City.

Rest assured, Cullisia features countless improvements over the original cabin with it's more primitive 'comforts'. The cabin has all the features and amenities for today's lifestyles while preserving the nostalgia of a 19th century mountain homestead.

Perfect little real canin

Stayed 4 nights. It was wonderful. Pictures are not near as nice as actual cabin. The decor just right and so cozy. Lived the front porch and listening to creek. Enjoyed nearby waterfalls and Road to Nowhere and the ride to Gatlinburg.

Just what we needed!

We had the most relaxing time at the cabin. We purchased land nearby and this was a perfect place for us to rest up and chill in the charm of the historic cabin. Loved it and we will be back!

Cullisia Cabin

A very beautiful cabin. Very homey and comfortable. The cabin was very clean and the amenities were far beyond our expectations. The area was so peaceful. Very little traffic. We enjoyed baby otters playing in the little creek in front of the cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We hope to return to Cullisia Cabin again soon. God bless ~ The Coakers

Perfect cabin, not so perfect services received

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Cabin was perfect size and location for the events planned for us. However, after a 4 hr drive, I did not expect to have to clean the cabin in order for us to use. Cabin was filthy, floors not swept, furniture and countertops, dining table under a layer of dust. Food particles left on couch. Cob webs on every doorway and lamp. Recliners so dirty it took several paper towels and soap and water to clean. Had several members of my family over and the loved the cabin and the location but would be hesitant to rent due to the condition upon arrival. Contacted the office with concerns about the cleanliness of the cabin and all that was offered was an apology and an excuse about it being an older cabin and getting dusty quicker than other cabins. This cabin was not just dusty it was FILTHY, luckily beds and bathrooms were clean.

Enjoyed are stay. Bedrooms and bathrooms were nice. The kitchen needs some repairs and cleaning. Stove had several issues, vent needed to be cleaned and some of the burners did not work correctly.

Wonderful and Relaxing Weekend Get-a-Way

We were able to open the windows and just listen to the peace the running water outside brought. It was a perfect get-a-way from the city. The cabin had all of the modern amenities we needed without compromising the absolutely charming cabin feel. It is conveniently located to everything in the area we wanted, but also gave us the peace and quiet we were looking for. This is a great place to bring your family or significant other. We will definitely be back!

Relaxing cabin with babbling brook.

The sounds of the runni g stream is none stop and the fire pit is right next to it so you can sit on the provided log seating or do like i did and bring folding rocking chairs. The gas fire place is perfect just turn the switch on and you have a roaring fire. The soaking tub is perfect after a long day. But if you want a regular shower they have one upstairs in the second full bath. Its easy to get to with google maps. I would recommend this cabin to everyone. I stay at two different cabins every winter in the Smokey Mountains in NC but it will be so hard not to go back to this cabin.

The covered porch had rocking chairs and a swing to enjoy the the sights and sounds of nature, as well as a nice fire pit next to the babbling creek. Very quiet area even though the cabin is close to the road. The inside is roomy and cozy and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need to cook meals. The decor has a fun rustic mountain cabin vibe. It is very conveniently located to Bryson City and the Nantahala river. Bryson City offers good food and access to wonderful hiking with Deep Creek tubing also an option. Overall, it was all we needed and certainly enjoyable.

Peaceful and relaxing

We did have a problem finding but the traffic and rain was the main reason, we couldn't see the cabin signs after dark. But overall was a good experience, liked the rustic appeal of the log cabin.

Family Holiday Weekend

We had a great time at this cabin. My 10 year old loves the outdoors so the cabin gave him many stories to tell of how they probably did things "a long long time ago". Cabin was wonderfully equipped to make our stay enjoyable and cozy.

The only problem we had was that the fireplace did not work the first night of our stay, which was disappointing. They did come and fix the fireplace tge very next morning however. Lovely home, lovely setting, and easy rental process!
