The Kauri post cottage is tucked away from the road, very close to Kerikeri, Waipapa, and the highway north. A warm quiet space, with shaded outside areas to relax. The cottage has one bedroom with a queen bed. The lounge also has a sofa bed and an extra mattress. The bathroom is all access with wide entry into the bedroom and the full kitchen is light & spacious. The fireplace or heaters make the cottage toasty in winter. Maximum 4 in the cottage. Children all ages welcome.
The cottage is spacious and very well equipped. There is a full kitchen and a washing machine. We were 2 adults and 2 children, one of the kids slept on a matress on the floor in the living room but it was perfect for what we needed.Doug was very responsive when we needed anything. The only slight down side is that it wasn't very private when using the outdoor area.
Great property with everything you need. Very clean and well equipped. Comfortable enough for a family of 4. Plenty of info from the owner on what to do in the area and other Northland hotspots which were all within an hours drive. Would recommend as a place close enough to everything but still nice and quiet.
The cottage is so beautiful. It was clean and had everything we needed. We loved reading the history on the cottage and how it came to be. I definitely recommend staying here. I would return in a heart beat if we ever travel north again. Thank you Douglas!
The historical significance of the cottage made our 3 night stay all that more special when returning to Aotearoa for a short time. Our family of four enjoyed the peacefulness of the cottage while appreciating being able to access the amenities that Kerikeri and the local surrounds had to offer. We didnât see our host Doug, but the communication before our arrival was fantastic and we felt welcomed.
The cottage was very clean, but a little tired. Not quite as convenient for accessing the Bay of Islands as we had hoped. Doug was helpful in providing directions, and with setting up the TV for us.
Lovely little cottage close to our event. Very clean and tidy. Everything we needed was there.
Only issue was the poor quality of the beds. They were all very hard. The pull out trundler bed was only a mattress on the floor. We were a family group of 4 older people.
Overall a good place to stay, tidy cottage and the kitchen setup is great. Lots of positives to this place but a few downsides as well. The oven (which we didn't use) is in real need of a good clean. The armchair cushions need refurbishing, being the lumpiest and most uncomfortable things we've ever tried to sit on. Set in lovely grounds which are in need of a good tidy up.
The cottage was even cuter in person and was the perfect base to explore the northlands from! I wish we had more time since the sunny porch and living room begged me to sit and read a good book. The historic post office flooring was beautiful and it was cool to learn about its history. Douglas was great with communication and food recommendations too! Thanks so much!
The grounds are full of beautiful flowering trees and bushes. In some areas a little tidy up would be good especially as you drive in and areas to the far side of the cottage. The host was very attentive to all communications we had with him. Having easy access to the washing machine was a big bonus.
The cottage has a full kitchen, rare in 1 bedroom rentals, and the extra beds in the lounge are fine for kids or extended family. Children are welcome and there is a large trampoline for them to let off steam. There is plenty of outdoor living space , perfect for breakfast in the sun. Next to the cottage is a covered garage for guests, making unpacking easier. At the end off Pungaere road is the amazing Kauri tree board walk in Puketi forest.
