The pictures and description of the listing misrepresent the actual state of the house. For one thing, the house is old, the furniture shabby, and the overall appearance rundown and dirty. We could have looked past this, however, the unending litany of things that were broken upon arrival or that broke down during our visit -- and the complete lack of communication from Roelens Vacation Rentals to address the issues -- is completely unacceptable.
Some examples: a giant hole in the top of the screen pool awning allowing bugs to get in; the kitchen sink disposal didn't work; the microwave door handle broke off in our hands; both toilets and the bathroom sink got clogged; the pool heater kept turning off with "in need of service" light. I spoke with the property manager at the beginning of the stay who said someone would come to fix the issues the next day and that she would look into "what the rental company could do for us"--and then never heard from her again despite leaving many messages. Then, I was told I'd get a call from a manager -- no one ever called. And, finally, no one ever came to fix the many ongoing issues.
Given the ridiculous cost of the house and high rental company fees, we felt completely ripped off. The cherry on top--being charged an early $50 check-in fee to get into the house one hour before 4pm check in, when the house obviously hadn't been occupied in months.
