Great in unit amenities like satellite tv and washer dryer. Worked perfectly for us.
Giant Fly Invasion
Our first trip away in a long time. We picked this home due to location and the owner says he is a veteran as we are. We expect clean and for the place to deliver physically as it is photograph. This home did that. Where it fell apart was the total lack of help when a crisis arose and then being told that we were lying about the problem. As a military family, my husband served 36 years, we don't lie or fabricate problems at 10pm at night when we are tired and ready to go to sleep in the middle of a city. Our second night we arrived at 9pm to an invasion of cluster flies. Giant, slow moving flies. After killing 2 dozen & flushing down the toilet, they kept coming. We then figured out what all of the little plug in devices were, bug deterrents. We saw them coming in and out from under the kitchen cabinet. We text and called several times within the hour. NEVER a call or text back until 2 hours later. By this time, we left. Our bedroom was a loft and we couldn't keep the flies off the bed. They were on windows, cabinets, lights, buzzing all around. The night before I felt if something was on me, but thought I was imagining it. The next morning still no call or text. finally an email through the Homeaway site which they never used during our communication. Only personal phones & their email from the business. We didn't think to check Homeaway. We were trying to solve the problem so we could go back, but they cleaned the home & locked us out. We had to stay elsewhere for more money for 3 nights. Here is what they said to us, approved by the homeowner . "We did a thorough walk of the property this morning and found no infestation of flies inside as you had previously mentioned in your message to us. We also found no evidence of the two dozen flies that you had killed the other night. We searched the entire property with no success on finding any flies, dead or alive, you moved out because we didn’t show up within an hour after you messaged us during after hours and did not give us a reasonable amount of time to reply. " Management Insane to suggest that we wanted to leave at 10 at night, pack up in the middle of DC & find some place else. These people refused to talk to us by phone, never have. Buyer beware of flies & people who don't communicate if you have a problem. We have NEVER had an issue with homeowners in the past, may we add, we too own several vacation rentals and never treat guest this way. Too many options in DC to pick from!
We have a policy of not renting to guests that have no positive reviews, but somehow we missed that this time.
After booking the guest repeatedly demanded that we give them discounts. They demanded a 'military discount' and that we give them reduced rates and they would in turn recommend us to guests that stayed at their own properties. They kept insisting after we said no.
This property had a VRBO guest up until 10 am the morning of the day these guests arrived. That guest reported no flies, and gave a five star review. The property was then professionally cleaned by our maids, which always report any issues. They reported no flies.
This guest contacted us after hours on a Friday. Our records show contact from them at 7:46 pm. By 8:36 pm they had moved out, demanding a full refund even for nights used.
We were not given a reasonable chance to see if there was a problem before they abandoned the property.
We inspected the property. Our maids re-inspected and cleaned the property. There were no flies present. We video taped the inspection. We put up fly strips. In the ten days since they left no flies caught.
We asked this guest to put in a cancellation request with VRBO so we could attempt to find other guests so we could possibly do some refund.
They refused to do so.
They then claimed they had left diamond earrings at the property.
We thoroughly searched. No earrings were found. Our maids are licensed and bonded. We've used them for a decade. They have never stolen anything.
Check the VRBO reviews - guests directly before and after this couple gave us five star reviews. We asked all guests about flies after this complaint. All said no flies.
We've asked this guest repeatedly for any evidence of flies. They've said they have photos but have refused to provide these to us.
There is a store a half block away that sells bug spray. These guests are in the rental business and would know how to use fly spray.
The devices mentioned aren't 'bug repellents' - they are light sensors on the stairs so a safety light comes on at night.
Their account of lack of communication is simply not true.
This guest went to the personal home of our property manager and attempted to provoke a confrontation with him in person.
Guests repeatedly contacted us via personal (not business) social media despite requests to communicate thru VRBO.
This review saddened us but we felt we must give the full story.
Lovely apartment in the Capitol Hill area
We enjoyed our stay in the apartment. It is very centrally located and made traveling by the underground easy .
Gem with a great location
For our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teenagers), "The Carriage House" was a great fit! The place was clean and is well maintained. The owner and property manager answered any questions we had and helped us in obtaining a parking spot for our minivan. With such a great location, it was not necessary to move our vehicle. We loved the Capital Bike Share being 2 blocks away, especially after a long day of walking and sightseeing! Everything that we needed was within walking distance, such as the sights, grocery store, and coffee shops, as well as bus stops and metro stations. We enjoyed relaxing or having breakfast on the rooftop deck or patio area outside the door. We definitely recommend The Carriage House!
This carriage house is a perfect place to stay in DC. Our family of four enjoyed the charm of the carriage house! We were so close to everything...the Capital, great restaurants, Saturday farmers market and bike rental. The property is quaint and the property owners take great care in providing a fantastic service. We would stay here anytime we visit DC!
