Situated on the foothill of Mt Fyffe 200m above sea level overlooking Kaikoura, about 8km from the town centre, next to the Fyffe Palmer bush walk which takes you through an ancient podocarp forest of Totara and Matai trees, The cottage completed in 2016, is warm with modern facilities but uniquely designed with an old time feel, built facing the east to catch the rising sun and magnificent views from both front and rear decks, has a unique old time feel, a great place to relax and unwind, in close proximity to a 9 hole golf course, The Lavender Farm and an Irish Hotel.
We absolutely loved our stay here. Was so quiet, so many wild birds flying around us and the view was amazing. We highly recommend this superb, unique property and we will come back longer next time.
Make sure you book ahead for dinner at Hapuku Kitchen to the Friday Supper Club. It was the best time ever.
The cottage is quite charming, with a fabulous view of the surrounding countryside as well as the ocean. We loved being able to eat in when we were too tired to go out. Craig has done a great job of providing everything needed.
We enjoyed a wonderful relaxing stay at Sky Harbour. The house has a timeless character and its beautiful location in the countryside outside of Kaikoura was very peaceful, with gorgeous views out over the farm field to the ocean and walking trails through the forest just steps from your door. Craig kindly provided welcoming provisions of bread, fresh eggs & fruit and jams. The house was spotlessly clean. The kitchen was well stocked and we enjoyed cooking simple meals .The four poster bed was extremely comfortable and walking to those views nourished the soul, and was a beautiful start to any day. Would love to stay again!
This is a wonderful cottage, and perfect for a couple who want a quiet location tucked up in the foothills with a view of Kaikoura and the peninsula. Such beautiful countryside, and right next to a good loop trail hiking track in the woods. The cottage is nicely designed, well maintained, and is a very comfortable place to relax. There isn't a proper stovetop, which at first seemed a big negative; however, the hot plate suffices and we used the bar-b-que's side burner to cook lamb chops one night and steam mussels the second night. The decks off the upper level bedroom are a great place to share a glass of wine and enjoy the views ( mountain view from one deck, and ocean/peninsula view on the other). The owner, who lives nearby, is super friendly and dropped by once to make sure all was well. My wife and I hope to return in the future. Top!
Lovely location and view over town to the water. The cottage is filled with character, a very enjoyable and private stay. We will definitely be back again
Amazing location, gorgeous cottage. Cosy and very comfortable. Everything you need is here and more! Fresh eggs, milk, great local coffee and lemons provided by our amazing hosts! Best time was spent sitting on the balcony enjoying coffee, bumblebees, bunnies and fan tails. My husband and I had the best sleep we have had in years! Thank you.
We loved our three nights at this wonderful property. The peaceful surroundings together with the beautiful view, birdsong and the comfort of the home made for a great time of much needed rest and relaxation. Thank you.
For a relaxing weekend getaway, Sky Harbour is the ideal retreat. A very comfortable and tidy cottage with beautiful character. With idyllic views over the Kaikoura coastline, and the birdsong from the native bush immediately behind the cottage, there is no better way to put your feet up and relax on one of the 3 decks available to enjoy.
Thanks very much Craig, we'll be back.

Hi, I'm a born and bred self employed tradesman with two young children in the awesome town of Kaikoura, I was fortunate enough to purchase this property as a project and see it through completion, my own home is just 200m away from the cottage but not visible for your privacy, I enjoy fishing, camping, racket sports and most outdoor activities, love the 10 acres I have here to play with and enjoy the benefits it has to offer.
The cottage is a place of peace and quiet, with the exception of the native bird life, the views are excellent, A place you can sit and let time slip by.
Originally designed and built by leading sculpture Sam Genet, the place was intended as his stone carving studio and hobbit house/tearooms, so mind your head on the low doorways, unfortunately his commitments with " Weta Workshops" and constantly being away on different sets meant he was unable to complete the place, you can see the talent and relationship between the cottage and the "Lord of the rings trilogy" and "The Hobbit" movies that he was working on when he designed and started building the place.
