In town for a family wedding and had a wonderful stay! The house is exactly as described and comfortable. It is tricky to find, especially at night. We took the freeway exit recommended by the owners vs Google Maps but then Google still took us the wrong wayâŠbasically ended up at a blocked fire road and It took us awhile to figure out how to get around. Recommend providing people with specific turn by turn directions.
It felt very quiet and isolated, but it was still a short easy drive to town. We were delighted to see the pigs next door! The house was immaculate. We wish we could've stayed longer.
Communicating via the messaging system was a little tricky. In our communications, there were directions to the house, but no address or phone number. I used a reference to a street name in the directions and photos of what the house looked like to find it, but even when I had a laptop available, I had to dig back to one old email that had the actual address, and I never did locate a phone number. I'm not sure the property owners were aware that that information was not readily available in the messages, so they should include it next time.
I stayed at Richard's place with two friends for a girls' weekend. It was the perfect spot! Comfortable beds, great kitchen and lots of space to hang out. Really loved the peaceful location -- but do keep in mind that the GPS does not get you there accurately (Richard had warned us and sent us specific instructions). We spent a lot of time at the house and then driving back and forth between it and Nevada City (~30 min drive).
The upstairs AC was broken when we were there (downstairs was fine), but we let Richard know and given his responsiveness, I'm sure it will be fixed soon!
Hidden gem in the rolling mountains of Sacramento gold country
We have VRBOâd all over the US and Europe plus having been a host. This was an exceptional property, clean, functional, well furnished and centrally located between big city shopping and the delightful and historical old mining towns along the well-known Highway 49. And, even better, surrounded with multiple craft breweries and boutique wineries. Tasting rooms every where.
The cabin was just delightful. Easy access and good parking. It slept six comfortably, and with the temperatures in the high nineties, very well air conditioned. We were four very active seniors in our eightyâs and two of our âkidsâ in their mid-fifties and enjoyed our stay quite well. Would also be great for âyoungâns because of all the quail and deer right at the doorstep, plus a fox parading around back! Reasonably priced and good value.
Highly recommended!! đ€đđ
This is a beautiful house with a big master bedroom/bath(shower/tub) downstairs and two bedrooms/full bath(shower) upstairs. The half bath is off the kitchen. The bedrooms were all very comfortable.
The living room was very spacious and comfortable with plenty of space for everyone to move around. We found it difficult to work the TV and could not watch anything but Netflix because we didn't have a "code/password." Maybe it has been set up that way by the owner. There are lots of pictures of kids shows displayed on the screen.
If the internet is important to you, it is slow but works well.
The kitchen was set up well which made cooking very easy.
It is a wonderful, secluded, and quiet location. We enjoyed our stay very much and would book there again without hesitation.
Richard is an excellent host and immediately answers any and all questions.

The house is really nice and well equipped with all the necessary stuff. Even old film slides are there. Not sure if any slide projector is available there, we didnât find it. The house is located far away from the freeway in a quite place. It was great to have a dinner outside at the front deck.
Some minor issues:
- Low/weak light over the dinner table: if you want to play board games with friends in the evening, then bring your own lamps/flashlights;
- Internet and WiFi connection is not good;
- Smart TV is slow. And it was almost impossible to watch anything especially in a combination of previous point. That's why we used our own external media player (Apple TV);
- Don't forget any food anywhere: an army of ants will be right here in the morning :) Luckily, there is a Raid Ant under the kitchen sink;
- Cornhole game at the backyard is totally useless since itâs too old ÂŻ/_(ă)_/ÂŻ
We really enjoyed our stay.. they provided so much of the little things we forgot.. like syrup for our pancakes.. The place was super clean and spacious with very comfortable beds .. Everything was just as advertised and we had everything we needed for meal prep.. can opener, seasonings, oil etc.. I would definitely highly recommend and will hopefully be back on the next vacation! :)
Also note.. We do recommend following the owners direction as GPS was a bit confusing and brought us in "the back way" that has a gate for emergency access..
The format for this review required me to rate things I cannot rate about the house. Unfortunately we were not able to get to the property because an unusually intense snowstorm in the area forced road closures. Richard kept in close touch with us as the storm developed. When it became obvious that travel was not possible he promptly refunded our money. He was professional and polite and understanding. I hope we can go there in the future. I am rating five stars for excellent communication and five stars as an overall rating because Richard handled this unusual situation very well.
Beautiful cabin in a gloriously quiet setting! Well-stocked, spacious open concept, nicely furnished, comfortable beds, and a peaceful deck with comfortable outdoor furniture. A relaxing and refreshing get-away with friends...not too far from home (Sacramento area) but yet it feels like it is blissfully far away from the craziness of city life. Richard is an excellent communicator and promptly responsive to our inquiries. Would definitely stay here again!

Home was more than expected. Great outside deck and porch overlooking a small vineyard. Deer came to the property every morning. Beds were comfortable and had more supplies than expected. Only negative was lights need to be brighter in main bedroom.
Beautiful surrounding and great property! Central to a variety of great things for my kids to do and really appreciated Richard's communication and close availability if needed.
Found property just as advertised. Easy to find, very accommodating. Enjoyed wildlife (deer) in area. Outdoor seating on deck very comfortable. A great spot for summer or winter stays.
What a beautiful place and especially the wildlife all around the home and especially in the early mornings. We had a great stay and look forward to coming back during the summer months.
We wanted to do a spring break getaway to the snow, and it ended up that there was no snow in Colfax! But, once we arrived on the beautiful property, it was meant to be! Their property is so kid friendly, tons of room to run around explore, and play! We were a 45 minute drive to the snow, and while at home the kids got to play in perfect weather without having to put on and off snow gear! The house was clean, the kitchen had all of the necessary appliances and spices for the ones that we forgot! It was a great experience!
My family and I had an amazing weekend. The property is beautiful and peaceful. The house is spacious and very clean. Richard was responsive and helpful. My family and I look forward to staying here again!
Loved the outdoor space! Inside was clean & bright & pretty well stocked. As their first guest, we would offer this advice: some extra seating in the living room would be helpful, especially for watching TV. Also, a small table is needed by the front door as a âdrop zoneâ for keys, sunglasses & such. Cleaning ppl were barely done when we arrived so canât properly review check in. But all in all, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property! Priced very fair! Thank you!
