The hosts from day one were so good with communication and helped with all our requests. The property itself is in the most amazing location and is walking distance to restaurants, museum's and ferry to Valletta. Inside it is historical yet modern but be prepared to walk up and down the stairs within. We loved our time in Birgu and would stay here again.
Beautiful house with a lovely roof top terrace. we were fortunate to stay during the celebrations for St Lawrence so enjoyed a ringside seat to amazing steeet parades and more fireworks in 3 days than iâd seen in my entire life! loved being in such an authentic environment. the little person boats to Calletta at the enc ox the road were another highlight
This home was an interesting mixture of old and new. Well located near good restaurants and the ferry to Valletta. The Malta war museum is close by and is a must see.
Our host, Consiglio was quick to respond to any of our needs. Just be prepared for climbing, a narrow, spiral staircase to access the upper floors.
Very nice place to stay in a most historic spot in Birgu, Malta. It was a little challenging to find and parking is not easily accessible. The apartment was nicely appointed with a rooftop terrace overlooking the church. You actually do not require a car because transit is very available and inexpensive. Our hostess
a really excellent place to stay. well equipped, really helpful hosts, great location. it's in the oldest part of birgu, in a knot of atmospheric medieval lanes, seconds from the main square with cafes, shops, bars and restaurants. just 5 mins down the hill to the water taxi landing point, making access to valetta easy - a 15 minute âŹ2 glide across the grand harbour, great for boat watching. so you can easily spend the day in the hustle and bustle of valetta, and then back across the harbour to chill out on the roof terrace.
added bonus: you'll get super fit on all the stairs!
Warning! It was described as 4 bedrooms but one was the living room. App changed when we complained
Incorrect description of property & host denied the problem saying living room was a bedroom when it was obviously open living space leading to other rooms. Do not stay there. Ultimate insult - they changed the description to 3 bedrooms when I complained. Going to report to Consumer Affairs.
Everything was even better than I expected. My multi-generational family (2 couples and a teenager) stayed at this amazing home for a week. The original stone features, including the arches, are on the first floor and the renovations on the second and third floors are first rate. Everything was clean and neat, which is not always the case. There is a fully equipped kitchen as well as a washing machine on the upper floor, which makes longer visits a lot less stressful.
The host was very helpful and provided us with information about the house and the area. He was extremely responsive and answered all of our questions. In fact, there were even goodies in the fridge upon our arrival!
Birgu turned out to be far more bustling than I expected, since March is not really tourist season. The Old World charm remains, but there are many shops and excellent restaurants within walking distance.
Hi, there were a bunch of 'pros' for this property.
- location was excellent: a quick walk to the little boats going into Valletta, we could take in all Valletta had to offer then retreat to our less populated location.
- Plenty of space
- Outdoor space was nice
- Cute part of town... so much so walking tours often stopped in front of the place.
The little things that prevents 5 star:
- the church bell you see in the listing, very pretty both to see and hear... but it being rang all hours day and night. being roughly 10 yards from it, sleeping was a problem.
- the spiral staircase is narrow, us 'less than thin' Americans (OK fat Americans!) had a little trouble with it.
- its 4 stories.. prepare to get your stair climb workout daily
- the showers could us a little cleaning around the base.
- the glasses had a faint odor, felt we had to wash everything before using.
- finding parking added anxiety to the stay, it ultimately always worked out, we found spots. Cannot imagine being so lucky in high season.
Cheers!
This home is big and well situated to explore all of Malta. The home is even more beautiful than the pictures! It has a total of 3 flights of stairs to reach the rooftop deck. Ground floor- kitchen and dining room. Main floor- bedroom, bathroom and living room, 3rd floor bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Top- the deck! It is a easy 5 minute walk to an on demand boat that will take you to/from Valletta for 2 euros. Who wouldnât want to take a boat instead of a bus! We enjoyed coming back to a peaceful location after a busy day in the capitol/Sliema. There are several very good restaurants in the main square less than a 5 minute stroll. 2 small stores for basic necessities. If you want stay home, the kitchen has everything you need plus a barbecue for grilling on the rooftop deck. Would 100% recommend this home.
Very nicely renovated building with plenty of room for 5 adults + 1-2 children. We travelling 7 adults and two had to sleep in a pull out bed in the living room.
The house is situated in a great place with easy access to everything but a much slower pace and relaxed vibe than Valletta.
Nice and clean place to stay and easy and quick communication with the owners. We would stay there again!
We were delighted with our stay here, which looked every bit as good in reality as the photos depict. Birgu's a much-quieter area than Valetta, but serves as a great base to relax back to - particularly as there's an excellent restaurant a short stroll away (Be Birgu). A well-equipped house with an excellent roof terrace. The hosts were particularly helpful and accommodating. High recommended!!
Myself a retailer in the home appliances sector together with my wife, a self-employed architect and civil engineer eager to meet and greet people from all walks of life and hopefully offer them a memorable stay here in Malta :)
This is a 500 year-old traditional house of character which has been luxuriously restored to meet today's modern standards, yet retaining the abundant traditional features for guests to enjoy a unique experience. Property is accessed through a private entrance on a pedestrianised street. It is in a very good and quiet location, close to the main square (piazza), with several historical highlights easily reachable by foot together with many restaurants and cafeterias.
Historical setting dating back to the knights of Malta . Taking you back in time with the abundance of architectural gems that Birgu and this property has to offer.
